Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
The big title on Hulu this week is Dying for Sex, a 2025 drama series. Based on a podcast and a true story, this tells of Molly(Michelle Williams), who receives a diagnosis of Stage IV metastatic breast, and promptly leaves her already troubled marriage, determined to seek the physical pleasure that has eluded her all her life. Her best friend Nikki(Jenny Slate) stands by her through her journey, while others around her watch incredulously. But Molly is determined to adventure, and finally control her own life, all the way to the end. Sissy Spacek plays her mom , Gail, and Rob Delaney, Jay Duplass, Kelvin Yu and Esco Jouléy also star, And this series gets an astounding 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Peter Travers of ABC News says “shine up an Emmy for Michelle Williams—hilarious and heartbreaking in this true story of a 40-ish podcaster who only learns to push the limits of sexual identity after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. ” So I’m tuning in. Hulu also offers Dandelion, a 2024 romantic drama. Kiki Layne plays the title character, here, Dandelion, a down-on-her-luck singer-songwriter, forced to work lowly gigs she doesn’t want. In South Dakota to work at a motorcycle rally, she meets a Scottish musician, Casey(Thomas Doherty). At different stages in a musical career, they remind each other of the riches in their chosen field, and benefits of making music. Melanie Nicholls-King, Brady Stablein and Jack Stablein also star, and Nicole Riegel directed. And this movie premiered at 2024 South by Southwest, and gets a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes. And Peyton Robinson of
RogerEbert.com wrote “even with a shaky conclusion, the swarming warmth of Riegel’s direction and the meditation of her writing results in a film that displays the fleeting, volatile kind of love that forces you to grow.” So I’m watching. Hulu has also added The World According to Allee Willis, a 2024 documentary. This tells the story of the life of Allee Willis, songwriter and artist, who wrote songs for Earth Wind & Fire and the theme song from Friends(!). And Willis had been filming snippets of her life since 1978, along with collecting ephemera and most importantly, creating art. So director Alexis Manya Spraic put it all together, along with music, and commentary from her many friends like Cyndi Lauper, Lily Tomlin, Patti Labelle, Mark Cuban and Paul Reubens. And the result is an explosively joyous celebration of life, as well as a somber look at Willis’ emotional journey. And this movie won Best Documentary at the Hamptons International Film Festival, the Frameline San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival and the Tallgrass International Film Festival. And it gets a stunning 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Marya E. Gates of RogerEbert.com said “this is one of the few celebrity docs I’ve seen in the last few years that is just as interesting as the subject itself, and made me wish we did live in Willis’ maximalist, art-forward world.” So I’m tuning in. And, finally, Hulu has Kaushaljis VS Kaushal, a 2025 Hindi dramedy. Here, 26-year-old Yug Kaushal (Pavail Gulati), leaves his family and his small town to move to Delhi, where he enthusiastically embraces the modern world, and modern ideas. Frustrated with his parents bickering, he suggests a separation, only to be stunned when they follow his advice. As his parents pursue their individual dreams, causing tumult for the family, Yug finds himself falling for a young woman, Kiara (Isha Talwar), who challenges his modern ideas. Ashutosh Rana, Sheeba Chaddha, Brijendra Kala and Grusha Kapoor also star, and Seema Desai directs. And this movie gets a 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Ganesh Aaglave of Firstpost says “with its stellar performances, engaging narrative, and heartfelt moments, it’s a must-watch for anyone who appreciates cinema that feels both intimate and universal.” So I’m watching.

Netflix has a huge add with One of Them Days, a 2024 comedy. Keke Palmer(!) plays Dreux, a working hard as a waitress, and looking to become a restaurant manager, if she can only ace her up-coming interview. But then , Keshawn (Joshua David Neal) the boyfriend of Dreux’ roomie, Alyssa(SZA!), takes off with their rent money, and the pair have just 24 hours to come up with the rent, or be thrown out of their apartment. This takes place at the only Level 1 trauma center in Miami, the Maguire Medical Center, where they try to prepare for a coming hurricane. But the unit is also struck by the news that the chief resident, Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell), is being put on leave, pending a sexual harassment charge. And as the day progresses, the medical center is roiled by the news, and the new interim chief Dr. Danielle “Danny” Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), is put to the test by that and the incoming victims of the hurricane. Sophia Torres Justina Machado, Jack Bannon, Jessie T. Usher and Jessy Yates also star, and there are 10 episodes available now. And though this series definitely has some bad reviews, and it gets only a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, Kaiya Shunyata of RogerEbert.com says “despite the burden the binge-model proposes, Netflix has crafted one of the best procedural dramas of the decade.” You decide. But I’d rather watch Little Lunch, a 2015 award-winning Australian comedy series. This mockumentary interviews various kids during their recess, or lunch break, with 6 different kids profiled. There’s Atticus (Joshua Sitch), Melanie (Madison Lu), and Tamara (Olivia Deeble), to name a few, offering bits of wisdom, as well as the latest playground gossip. When he loses his job, it rocks the family as Isyak looks for work, and everyone struggles to adapt. And it gets a 7/10 on IMDb, and Anjali Sharma of the Midgard Times calls it “a poignant, beautifully acted drama that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.” So I’m watching. And, finally Netflix has added Karma , a 2025 K-drama thriller series. This series focuses on a fatal car accident, and it’s effects on the lives of 6 people involved in it. If you can call it an accident, since Park Jae-yeong (Lee Hee-joon) has arranged for the accident (fatal he hopes), to get his father’s life insurance. But things don’t go as planned , of course, with the police finding a witness to the ‘accident.’ And the various people involved, find their lives forever changed by that one incident. Amazon has an exciting add with The Bondsman, the 2025 Blumhouse action horror series. Kevin Bacon(!) stars, here, as bounty hunter Hub Halloran, who is brought back to life, in his home town, after being murdered. Amazon has also added The Divorce Insurance, a 2025 K-drama romcom series. Here, actuary No Ki Jun (Lee Dong Wook), thrice divorced himself, gets the idea for Divorce Insurance, and decides to bring that idea to fruition.
