Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has an exciting add this week with The Last Showgirl, a 2024 drama. Pamela Anderson(!) stars as Shelly, a seasoned dancer and star at the Vegas show “Le Razzle Dazzle.” But Shelly is looking for a new gig, as the show is closing, and the grind of auditions begins to take it’s toll. And her strained relationship with her resentful grown daughter Hannah (Billie Lourd) doesn’t help. But her best friend, Annette (Jamie Lee Curtis) may help her through the hardest transition of her life. Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Dave Bautista also star, and Gia Coppola directs. And this movie was nominated for numerous awards in 2024 & 2025 , and went on to win Best Indie Feature at the 2024 Astra Awards, and Special Prize of the Jury at the 2024 San Sebastián International Film Festival. And it gets an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Coleman Spilde of Salon.com said “it’s impossible not to be enchanted by Anderson’s compassionate turn, and her tender work makes it all the more heartbreaking to watch Shelly refuse to go quietly into the night.” So I’m watching. Hulu has also added Night Call, a 2025 Belgian thriller. This follows a 20-ish locksmith Mady Bala (Jonathan Feltre) on what seems to be a regular night of work, until he is tricked by a young woman named Claire, into helping her enter an apartment. And when she ends up stealing from the mob, Mady ends up taking the blame. And running for his life, his only hope to find Claire again, and return the money she stole. Natacha Krief, Jonas Bloquet, Thomas Musti and Romain Duris also star, while Michiel Blanchart directed. And this movie was nominated for numerous awards this year, and went on to win Best French Belgian Film at the Film Festival Oostende and 9 awards at the Magritte Awards, including Best Script for Blanchart, Best Director for Blanchart and Best Film. And it gets an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Kristy Puchko of Mashable said “an action movie that’s daring, dark, and distinctly wild, Night Call is not to be missed.” So I am definitely tuning in. Hulu has also added Tucci in Italy, a 2025 Nat Geo Explorer series. This series features famed actor Stanley Tucci and his travels through Italy, exploring it’s heritage and it’s food. He travels to ten different areas of the country, here, like Lombardy, Tuscany and Abruzzo, and delves into the culture, people and the history of the area, that effects the their native dishes. And his interviews with natives(not only chefs) are fascinating, funny and insightful, and help us understand the nation of Italy. And there are 5 episodes available now, and this is a follow-up to CNN’s 2021 series Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. And this series gets an astounding 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 8.3/10 on IMDb. and Lucy Mangan of the Guardian says “Tucci and his Tucciness work their magic yet again, even if it is mainly by pointing a camera at Italy, letting Italians speak for themselves and their priorities shine through. Tutta bella.” So I’m watching. And, finally, Hulu has Nine Puzzles, a 2025 K-drama thriller series. this series revolves around Yoon E-na(Kim Da-mi), the only witness to her uncle’s murder, ten years ago. Now a leading criminal profiler, E-na is confronted with a series of similar murders, each accompanied by a single puzzle piece, as with her uncle’s murder. And so she is forced to work with the lead detective, Detective Kim Han-saem(Son Suk-ku), who worked her uncle’s case, and still suspects her as his killer. Roh Jae-won, Kim Sung Kyun and Kim Ye-won also star, and there are 6 episodes available to enjoy now. And this series gets a stunning 8/10 on IMDb, and Archi Sengupta of Leisure Byte calls it “a story that is both haunting and disturbing and grips you in suspense from its first episode.” And I love a mystery, so I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix has a big title added this week with Sirens, a 2025 dark comedy series. Meghann Fahy stars as Devon DeWitt, here, a young woman caring for her father in Buffalo, who decides enough is enough, and her missing younger sister, Simone (Milly Alcock), needs to help out. But when Devon finally tracks Simone down, she finds her on a plush estate in Martha’s Vineyard, run by Michaela “Kiki” Kell(Julianne Moore!). And Simone is not only Kiki’s assistant, but her biggest fan, held in her thrall by some unknown power. And the more Devon sees of her sister’s relationship, the more determined she is to break the spell that makes Simone a slave. Kevin Bacon(!), Glenn Howerton, Felix Solis and Bill Camp also star, and there are 5 episodes available now. And this series gets a 7/10 on IMDb, and David Opie of Empire Magazine says it “is the perfect getaway: a beautifully shot, deranged tug of war between Julianne Moore, Milly Alcock and a never better Meghann Fahy that flies by in just five episodes. Camp luxury trash at its finest.” So its on my list. Netflix has also added Ex Ex Lovers, a 2025 Filipino romantic comedy. This finds single mom, Joy (Jolina Magdangal), mother of SC(Loisa Andalio), panicked when her daughter decides to marry Joey. So Joy travels to the home of her ex-husband, Ced Hermoso(Marvin Agustin), who deserted her and SC, to get his help stopping the wedding. Ced agrees, determined to be a good father, but old feelings begin to rekindle between the exes. But will Joy return to relationship she didn’t like, and allow her daughter to marry? Juan Karlos Labajo and Mylene Dizon also star, while JP Habac directs. And it gets a whopping 7.6/10 on IMDb, and Tasnim Jahan of K Waves And Beyond calls it “a tear-jerking, but slow film that shows you how complicated love and relationships really are.” Netflix also offers Dead or Love, a 2025 Japanese thriller series. Here, Mio Kamishiro (Takimoto Miori) thinks she’s founds the man of her dreams in her husband, Masato Kamishiro (Narimiya Hiroki). His devotion to her is undeniable, and she loves him unconditionally . But then, cracks begin to appear in their marriage, when Mio suspects he may be lying to her about his absence, and when a female journalist is murdered, her suspicions of Masato escalate. And when a nosy neighbor turns up dead, Mio begins to fear for her life. Hosoda Yoshihiko, Tsutsui Mariko, Rinka Kumada, and Hiroki Narimiya also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And though this series gets a 5.6/ 10 on IMDb, it also gets a 7/10 on My Drama List. And I love a mystery, so, though I can find no reviews as yet(its early), I’m tuning in. Netflix has also added Newly Rich, Newly Poor, a 2025 Soanish-language dramedy series. This tells the story of two men, one rich-Andrés Ferreira(Juan Manuel Guilera), and one poor- Brayan Galindo Romero(Variel Sánchez). But the two were accidentally switched at birth, and the nurse who made the mistake, near death, comes clean with Andres’ mother , Antonia. After the story is checked out, the two men switch their lives, with Brayan coming into a life of plenty, but also a high pressure job. While the formerly insufferable Andres is forced to earn his daily bread the hard way. Lina Tejeiro, Laura Barjum, Marcela Agudelo, and Jhon Álex Toro also star, and there are 63(!)episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets an impressive 7.7/10 on IMDb, and Neerja Choudhuri of the Midgard Times calls it “a long but a fun watch. ” So I’m watching. And, finally, Netflix has Tastefully Yours, a 2025 K-drama limited series. This follows chef Han Beom-woo(Kang Ha-neul), the arrogant and insufferable heir to the powerful Hansang corporation, who needs a good chef fast, after firing the last one. When he finds a chef, Mo Yeon-joo(Go Min-si), at a restaurant in a small town, he thinks he’s found the perfect replacement. But Yeon-joo is unimpressed with him, and requires he work for her for a month to prove himself. But as she finally joins his team in Seoul, he has his own problems to deal with, as the results of his harsh treatments come back to haunt him. Kim Shin-rock, Yoo Su-bin and Bae Na-Ra also star and there are 4 episodes available now, with 6 more to come. And this series gets a smashing 7.9/10 on IMDb, and Neerja Choudhuri of the Midgard Times says “the drama’s tone walks a fine line between comedic absurdity and emotional depth, and it does so with finesse….. a promising series to follow.” So I’m tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon has one big add this week with Motorheads, a 2025 coming-of-age series. This finds Samantha Torres (Nathalie Kelley), moving back to her rust belt home town of Ironwood with her two teens, Zac (Michael Cimino) and Caitlyn(Melissa Collazo). And since everything in Ironwood revolves around cars, it doesn’t take long for Zac to want to be the fastest racer in town. Caitlyn wants only to build cars, but there is tension in town between the rich kids and the poor(of course). And there’s also their long lost father, Christian, that troubles the family, with their uncle Logan(Ryan Phillippe) happily offering whatever support he can. Deacon Phillippe, Mia Healey and Josh Macqueen also star, and there are 10 episodes available now. And this series gets a 7.2/10 on IMDb, and Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter said “life-changing stuff, this isn’t… It’s just sturdy, reliable entertainment — well worth putting down your phone for and taking for a proper spin.” So its on my list. Amazon has also added Season 1 of The Intern, a 2016 French crime drama series, from the PBS Masterpiece channel. This follows Constance Mayer(Michèle Bernier), a former farmer who passes her law exams, and is assigned as clerk to Judge Frederic Filiponi(Arié Elmaleh), in Marseilles. But Constance has a better instinct for people and so, as the Judge investigates crimes, (as is the practice in France) his new clerk may outshine him in detection. Which may not put her in his best graces. Philippe Lelièvre, Clément Moreau, Jeanne Lambert and Géraldine Loup also star, and there are 6 intriguing episodes available now. And this series gets a 7.4/10 on IMDb, and Kelly Luchtman of Foreign Crime Drama called it “a nice blend of humor, (including a running gag about who’s ride is better-the judge’s scooter or Meyer’s station wagon) pathos, and character development.” But remember to watch in the next 9 days, because on June 1st, it disappears back to the PBS Masterpiece channel, only to be seen with a premium fee of $5.99 a month. So I’m watching now. Amazon also offers Tokyo Girl, a 2016 Japanese drama series. This follows Aya (Asami Mizukawa) through the years, from the time she moves to the city, at 20 , until she turns 40. As a naive (rather self-centered) young woman, Aya expects to be the prettiest girl in the room, but finds herself blending into the background. Still , she manages to make friends with Takayuki, a young man from the same small town as she. As time passes, and she breaks up with Takayuki, and dedicate herself to work. Becoming a proficient businesswoman, Aya finally ends up signing up with a marriage bureau, to find a husband. And over the years, she grows into confident woman of accomplishments and strength. Hana Hizuki, Sumire Ashina, Masako Chiba and Shôhei Ueki also star, and there are 11 episodes available now. And this series gets an outstanding 8/10 on IMDb, and Ria Nagwani of Medium calls it “Amazon Prime‘s hidden diamond….beautifully written.” So I’m tuning in.
