Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has few big add this week, butt hey do have hidden gems like And Then We Danced, a 2019 Georgian drama. This tells of Merab (Levan Gelbakhiani), determined to become a dancer with the National Georgian Ensemble, working intently with his partner, Mary, trying to impress the instructor, Aleko (Kakha Gogidze). But then in walks Irakli (Bachi Valishvili), a charismatic dancer, who outshines Merab, while he objects to the company’s rigid masculine approach to male dancers. And as he helps Merab, he enchants him, too, and the pair form a magical friendship. But as they reach for something more, they are confronted with the harsh disapproval and homophobia that might threaten their career and their romance, not to mention their lives. Ana Javakishvili, Giorgi Tsereteli, Tamar Bukhnikashvili and Aleko Begalishvili also star, while Levan Akin directed. And this movie won multiple awards in 2019, and Gold Q-Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival, Best International Feature from the North Dakota Film Society and 3 at the Odesa International Film Festival, including the Best Acting for Levan Gelbakhiani, and the Grand Prix Award. And it gets a shining 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Emily Maskell of Little White Lies called it a “powerful, poignant message of courage and self-acceptance.” and I’m definitely tuning in. Hulu also offers Ocean with David Attenborough, a 2025 Nat Geo movie. this tells of the beauty of our world oceans, with much of them still unexplored, and teeming with life. Its gorgeous photography shows many wilds expanses of seawater, and their amazing inhabitants. It also tells of the perilous condition of some of our oceans, with mega-trawlers laying siege to wide expanses of ocean, leaving little behind, and industrial fishing raising havoc, too. That’s why the UN Ocean Conference wants to protect 30% of the world’s oceans, while only 3% is protected today. But this isn’t a mournful or preachy piece, but instead and highly informative and beautiful one, that is motivating and inspiring. Keith Scholey, Colin Butfield and Toby Nowlan co-direct, and, of course, David Attenborough narrates. And this movie gets an outstanding 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Robbie Collin of the Daily Telegraph says “this cracking campaigning documentary makes a galvanising case for action – and without lobbing its audience overboard with an anchor weight of hopelessness yoked to their heels.” And I’m so tuning in. Hulu has also added Scream, the 2022 horror remake. This returns to that same town, Woodsboro, Calif. , 25 years later, and a teen at home alone, Tara (Jenna Ortega!), is attacked. Her sister Sam (Melissa Barrera) returns home to help, bringing her boyfriend Richie (Jack Quaid!). They, along with teens Amber (Mikey Madison!) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy-Brown), try to solve the mystery of who the ghostface killer is this time, before more lives are lost. Veterans Neve Campbell(!), Courteney Cox(!), David Arquette(!) return for this flick, and Mason Gooding, Rose McGowan and Kyle Gallner also star, and Tyler Gillett directed. And this movie gets a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Mark Kermode of Kermode & Mayo’s Film Review said “remembering the thrill of the original, and just how brilliantly of its time it was, this is just alright. The Halloween reboot was far more surprising in its reconfiguration.” You decide. And, finally, Hulu has The Kollective, a 2025 Dutch drama series. This follows a group of journalists in the Netherlands, and across Europe, who decide to investigate the death of journalist Steve Lush in the Congo. after certain members of the Kollective become convinced that the plane explosion that killed Lush was intentional, and perhaps caused by Russia, Joshua heads to Kinshasa. As he investigate with connections there, programmers Etienne and Lucas scrutinize a video of the crash for clues. And what they find may put all of their lives in danger. Natascha McElhone, Celine Buckens, Gregg Sulkin, Gregory Montel, and Felix Mayr also star, and there are 6 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a 6/10 on IMDb, and Shikhar Agrawal of DMT Talkies said ” I am eager to watch these characters on screen again and go down the rabbit hole to investigate the mind-bending conspiracy. ” And I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix, surprisingly, has no big titles added this week, but, still some good finds like Families Like Ours, a 2025 Danish drama series. This takes place in a Denmark so wracked by climate change, officials decide to close the country down, after the economy collapses due to expensive attempts to keep rising waters of the North Sea at bay . Copenhagen architect, Jacob (Nikolaj Lie Kaas), his husband Henrik (Magnus Milang) and his daughter, Laura (Amaryllis August) are left with few plans , except to liquidate their ownings, and find a new home. But Laura is in high school, and in love with a student there, Elias(Albert Rudbeck Lindhart), and then, there’s her divorced mother, Fanny (Paprika Steen), pulling her daughter in a different direction from Jacob . And the rest of the Danish population is going through the same turmoil as Laura and her family, in a mad rush to get out. Asta Kamma August, Max Kaysen Høyrup and David Dencik also star, and there are 7 episodes available for streaming now. And this series was nominated for numerous awards last year, and went on to win the Audience Award at the Aarhus Series Awards. And it gets a stunning 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Keith Watson of the Financial Times said it “pulls you into its emotional slipstream and won’t let go.” So I’m watching. Netflix has also added Our Times, a 2025 Mexican sci-fi romance. this features the story of a pair of married physicists, Nora Cervantes (Lucero) and Héctor Esquivel(Benny Ibarra),professors living and working in 1966 Mexico City. They’re deeply involved in a secret project that Nora brainstormed, a time machine, which they set for 15 minutes into the future for their first trip. but when they find themselves, instead, having traveled 59 years into the future, to 2025, they are shocked. But as they navigate their new world of iPhones, other tech, and new ideas, their relationship starts to fray. For Nora enjoys the new world of less sexism, equality and gender fluidity, but Héctor finds himself challenged by those new ideas. And as they find physicists to help them find their way back to their old time, Nora is more and more tempted to stay in a more equitable world. And the window for their return is rapidly closing. Ofelia Medina, Renata Vaca, Enrique Singer and Claudia Lobo also star, and directs. And this movie gets a 5.5/10 on IMDb, but many good reviews, like that of Samantha Nelson of Polygon says it’s a “fresh twist on a familiar format is the best part of the movie,” adding, its “a bittersweet meditation about personal growth and the way relationships shift with circumstances.” And I am so tuning in. Netflix has also added Becoming Led Zeppelin, the 2024 music documentary. This film takes an intimate look at the beginnings of the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin, with plenty of personal insights, because (finally) it’s an authorized documentary. And so director Bernard MacMahon provides the inside story, of how members bumped into each other in 60’s London, and finally banded together when Jimmy Page, formerly of The Yardbirds, wanted to create a new Yardbirds group. Luckily, they became Led Zeppelin instead, and really clicked, creating their first album in 36(!) hours, and then a second the next year, after an American tour. But most importantly, we get interviews with surviving members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, and plenty of music, and archival footage. And this movie gets a smashing 7.5/10 on IMDb, and Ludovic Hunter-Tilney of the Financial Times said “the master-musicianship that the press initially overlooked, and which the tales of bad behaviour obscure, is front and centre here.” Which is all the reason I need, so I’m watching. Netflix also has Aniela, a 2025 Polish dramedy series. Małgorzata Kożuchowska stars as Aniela, the wife of the super rich, Janek (Jacek Poniedziałek), who finds another woman, and leaves Aniela, taking all their money, and their daughter. So Aneila is forced to fend for herself for the first time in her life, and finds it more than a little challenging. but she’s determined to get her daughter back, so aniela pushes on, offending many, and befriending a few. Renata Dancewicz, Cezary Pazura, Gabriela Muskała, Filip Pławiak and Lila Vasina also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And it gets a 5/10 on IMDb, but Tasmin Jahan of K-waves & Beyond says its “hella funny…..it shows the real, cringeworthy, stumbling effort to get your life together again when everything is in shambles.” So I’m tuning in. And, finally, Netflix has added News Anchor, a 2025 Japanese drama series. Here, veteran reporter Soichi Shindo(Hiroshi Abe!) is talked into becoming the anchor man for the dying News Game tv show, where he is encouraged to be a disruptor. But when Shindo gets started and challenges politicians, and businessmen alike, will the corporation still be behind him? And will Shindo be able to manage getting along with his younger colleagues, some of whom may not agree with his methods? Shunsuke Michieda,Kanato Tsukishiro, Akiko Kikuchi and Emma Miyazawa also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. and this series gets a 6.4/10 on IMDb, and Neerja Choudhuri of the Midgard Times calls it “timely, tense, and refuses to offer easy answers. In a media landscape driven by noise, this series dares to ask: What’s the cost of telling the truth?” And I’m definitely watching.
AMAZON
Amazon has a big add this week with Deep Cover, a 2025 action comedy. Bryce Dallas Howard stars, here, as Kat, an improv comedy teacher in London, dying for her big break, without much success. So, when she is offered a chance by a cop(Sean Bean) to use her talents to infiltrate the mob, she is stunned, but finally accepts. As she brings along with her two students, Marlon (Orlando Bloom!), an uber-serious method actor, and Hugh (Nick Mohammed), they begin with small time criminals. But when they somehow bumble into the big leagues and start rubbing elbows with likes of Fly (Paddy Considine!), and the mafia head, Metcalfe(Ian McShane!), they might get a big break for the police. If they don’t get killed first. Sonoya Mizuno, Ben Ashenden and Freya Parker also star, and Tom Kingsley directed. And it gets a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com said “it’s one of the most surprisingly funny films of the year so far, a reminder of how far a comedy can overcome when it hires the right people to land the jokes.” So I’m watching. But Amazon has also added September 5, a 2024 drama. This tells the story of the now infamous Munich Olympic hostage crisis, as seen through the eyes of the ABC television crew. As reporters like Peter Jennings(Benjamin Walker), begin what they think will be a relaxing stint of sports reporting, they soon hear machine gun fire in their hotel, and find terrorists nearby have taken Israeli delegation hostage, with some members shot. And as the chaos continues, so do the Olympics, and producer Roone Arledge(Peter Sarsgaard!) is left to grapple for control of the story with ABC, although the news bureau want to take over. But Arledge wins control, since they are the closest to the situation, which leaves them with the dilemma of whether their news feed with actually help the terrorists, who have tuned in as well. John Magaro, Ben Chaplin, Leonie Benesch, and Zinedine Soualem also star, and Tim Fehlbaum directed. And this movie was nominated for many awards in 2025, and went on to win Best Picture at the Bavarian Film Awards, and won 9 awards at the 2025 German Film Awards, including Best Screenplay, Best Direction for Fehlbaum and Outstanding Feature Film. And it gets an amazing 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Amy Nicholson of the Los Angeles Times said its “is cut like a modern thriller — it’s all go, go, go — and the cinematographer, Markus Förderer, favors handheld work, as if to stick it to the heavy 1970s cameras that here get laboriously pushed out of the office and up a small hill.” And I am so tuning in. And, finally, Amazon has season 1 of Makari: Sicilian Mysteries, a 2023 Italian mystery series from MHz Choice. Based on books by Gaetano Savatteri, this finds Saverio Lamanna(Claudio Gioè) returning to Sicily, after being fired from his job in Rome. But Saverio inis intent on finding inspiration for his novel, and so, interviews many of the townspeople, but finds many secrets instead. And when it ends in murder, Saverio is left to find the culprit. Domenico Centamore, Filippo Luna, Ester Pantano and Antonella Attili also star, and there are 4 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series was nominated for 3 awards at the La Pellicola d’Oro awards, and gets a 6.3/10 on IMDb. And Margaret Lyons of the New York Times calls it “this sumptuous series….. is like a leisurely day at the beach, but with murders.” And I love a mystery, so I’m tuning in. But remember to watch before July 1, when it all goes back to MHz Choice, for a premium fee.
So sit back and binge this weekend, on classics, old and new, on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Enjoy!
