Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has a huge add this week, with season of Only Murders in the Building, the 2025 mystery series. I will try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, for your and my own sake, so suffice it to say, the whole gang, Charles(Steve Martin!), Oliver(Martin Short!), and Mabel (Selena Gomez!), reappear, to solve yet another murder in the building. This time it’s Lester (Teddy Coluca), the iconic doorman at the Arconia, and its up to our podcasting trio to solve the crime. And though it may not come off without a hitch, they’ll get the job done.
Christoph Waltz(!), Renée Zellweger(!), and Logan Lerman also star, and there are episodes available for bingeing now. And this series has won numerous awards, and 7 Emmys, including Outstanding Lead Actor for Nathan Lane, and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Meryl Streep(!). And gets an outrageous 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 8.1/10 on IMDb. And Louise Rugendyke of The Age (Australia) says “Gomez, Martin and Short are screen magic. I could watch their nonsense, their snark, eye rolls and schtick roll on forever.” And that goes for me too, so I’m tuning in. Hulu has also added Love Song for Illusion, a 2024 Disney+ fantasy drama series. Here, the Crown Prince Sajo Hyeon (Park Ji Hoon)suffers from a personality disorder, that gives rise to his disruptive alter ego, Ak-hee. when Yeon Wol(Hong Ye-ji) joins his court, she may seem kind, but she is really an assassin, intent upon killing Hyeon, to avenge the death of her father. But as they grow closer, their affection for each other grows, and they fall in love. But can their love survive war and the intrigues of the court? Hwang Hee, Ji Woo and Kim Dong-won also star, and there are 16 episodes available now. And it gets an amazing 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Christine Kinori of the Review Geek says it “has a refreshing premise…[and] an amazing cast.” So I’m watching. Hulu also offers The Breslau Murders, a 2025 Disney+ Polish historical mystery series. This takes place in 1935 Breslau, where the Germans have taken control. And, though police commissioner, Franz Podolsky(Tomasz Schuchardt)loathes the Nazis he is forced to work for, when a series of murders are committed, with the Olympics fast approaching, he is given a deadline of 3 days to find the killer. And then his wife Lena becomes involved, perhaps becoming a target of the serial killer herself. Sandra Drzymalska, Ireneusz Czop, Przemysława Bluszcza and Agata Kulesza also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And this series gets a impressive 7/10 on IMDb, and Felicity Martin of Good Housekeeping says it’s a “”polished’ period crime drama with an alluring detective.” So I’m tuning in. And, finally, Hulu has added Tempest, a 2025 Disney+ K-drama thriller series. This follows Seo Mun-ju (Jun Ji-hyun), a married politician, as she endures the tragedy of the murder of her husband, Assemblyman Jang Junik (Park Hae-joon). But in the wake of his murder, Mun-ju finds more trouble, as her husband left his estate to her, and his family is incensed. Netflix has few big titles added this week, but they do have Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, the 2023 coming-of-age dramedy. Based on the bestseller, of the same name, by Judy Blume, this takes place in 1970, with 11 year-old Margaret Simon (Abby Ryder Fortson) abruptly finds out her family is moving from New York City to the suburbs- leaving her friends, and her grandmother Sylvia(Kathy Bates!) behind. And as Margaret adapts to her new school and makes new friends, she also has to adapt to growing up, hitting puberty, and liking boys, too. It feels such big emotions, echoing the giddy highs and crushing lows of being a tween.” So it’s on my list. Netflix has also added Diary of a Ditched Girl, a 2025 Swedish dramedy series. Based on the book Half of Malmö’s Men Have Dumped Me by Amanda Romare, this tells of the trial and travails of Amanda (Carla Sehn), as she tries to navigate the modern dating world. So it’s on my list. And, finally, Amazon has added Confidence Queen, a 2025 K-drama action comedy series. This follows the adventures of a trio of con artists, called Team Confidence Man, led by Yoon Yi-rang(Park Min-young), which tries to avenge wrongs done in the past.
