Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has a big title added this week with All’s Fair, the 2025 legal drama series from Ryan Murphy. Here , a group of female divorce lawyers team up to create their own practice. Kim Kardashian(!?) plays Allura Grant, a lawyer who leaves her misogynistic law firm with Liberty Ronson(Naomi Watts), intent on forming their own firm. They bring with them the old firm’s investigator Emerald Greene(Niecy Nash-Betts!), and begin arguing cases for their clients. But they do have one enemy to contend with, Carrington Lane(Sarah Paulson!), who holds a grudge because they didn’t invite her to join their team. Teyana Taylor, Matthew Noszka and Glenn Close(!)also star, and there are 5 episodes available for streaming now. Unfortunately, it gets just a 5% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 2.9/10 on IMDb. and Kelly Lawler of USA Today says “it’s so stilted, artificial and awkward not even a glass of wine and leftover Halloween candy can make it remotely enjoyable to view.” So I definitely won’t be watching. Luckily, Hulu has also added Sovereign, the 2025 thriller. Nick Offerman(!) plays Jerry Kane, trying to lead an anti-government sovereign citizen movement, while homeschooling his son Joe(Jacob Tremblay). But with Joe’s home under foreclosure, the pressure rises, and when they’re finally evicted, Jerry begins to rage, and to amass more firearms. When they’re pulled over by police, gun fire ensues, with lethal results. And so the Kanes are on the lam, hunted by hundreds of police, and Joe is plagued by guilt. But more violence is yet to come. Martha Plimpton, Nancy Travis and Dennis Quaid also star, and Christian Swegal directs. And this movie has already won the Canal+ Award at the 2025 Deauville Film Festival, and gets a stunning 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. And Owen Gleiberman of Variety said it’s “a real-world thriller that’s also a riveting character study that’s also a portrait of the place where the reactionary politics of today curdles into obsession.’ So I’m definitely tuning in. Hulu also offers The Hidden Holocaust, a 2025 Nat Geo historical documentary. This tells of the less known efforts by Hitler to “kill every last Jew” in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, coming to light , in part, thanks to the efforts of Father Patrick Desbois. Desbois formed the organization Yahad-In Unum(Togther as One) with the approval of the Catholic church, and has since uncovered multiple stories of massacre in places like Ukraine and Poland, previously unknown. Reporter Lara Logan interviews him, and follows him to sites across Eastern Europe, where horrifying have come to light. And this enlightening and sobering documentary gets a shining 7.6/10 on IMDb, and so, though i can find no reviews online, as yet, I am watching. And, finally, Hulu has added The Manipulated, a 2025 Disney+ K-drama revenge series. Here, Park Tae-jung (Ji Chang-wook) is working as a delivery man, but dreaming of being a horticulturalist, when he falls for a hoax, and is subsequently arrested for murder. Proclaiming his innocence, Tae-jung is sent to prison, with a mountain of evidence condemning him . But then Tae-jung learns that it was all orchestrated by millionaire An Yo-han(Doh Kyung-soo). And so, when Tae-jung manages to escape, he heads directly for Yo-han, with revenge in mind . Lee Kwang-soo, Jo Yoon-su, Pyo Ye-jin, Kim Jong-soo and Ahn Ji-ho also star, and there are 4 episodes to binge now. And this series gets an astounding 8.8/10 on IMDb, and Ben Carter of Gazettely calls it “a high-octane Korean thriller about a wrongful charge that detonates a man’s life and lights the fuse for revenge.” So I’m watching.
NETFLIX
Netflix has a huge add this week with Frankenstein, Guillermo del Toro’s 2025 monster movie. but this Frankenstein is told from the monster’s view, played by Jacob Elordi, a sad creature, at the mercy of his egotistical maker, Victor Frankenstein(Oscar Isaac!). As the manic Frankenstein brings the creature to life, Victor’s Elizabeth(Mia Goth!) bonds with it, and questions Victor‘s intentions. Jealous, Victor falsely blames the creature for a man’s death, and so the creature is damned by fate. He escapes, but realizing he cannot die, he returns to Victor, to demand a mate, but Victor refuses, and so the creature is enraged. And you know what happens then. Burn Gorman, Charles Dance Felix Kammerer, and Christoph Waltz also star, and del Toro adapted Mary Shelley‘s story for the script, here, along with directing . And this movie premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival last August, and, it gets an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an incredible 7.7/10 on IMDb. And Glenn Kenny of RogerEbert.com calls it “a breathtaking coup, an exhilarating riposte to the conventional wisdom about dream projects.” And I’m definitely tuning in. Netflix also offers Death by Lightning, a 2025 historical drama. This tells of the assassination of President James Garfield(Michael Shannon) and his assassin Charles Guiteau (Matthew Macfadyen). As Garfield begins his political rise in 1880, Guiteau is arrested for petty theft, while insisting on ideas like free love. And as Garfield becomes president, and deals with all kinds of difficulties, Guiteau lingers at the sidelines, desperate to become great and famous. And as his addled mind finds little outlet or success, he is drawn to the option of violence. Andrew Hefler, Betty Gilpin(!) , Nick Offerman(!) and Bradley Whitford(!) also star, and Matt Ross directs all episodes. And this series gets an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Lili Loofbourow of the Washington Post says “the fact that this is not a major story in the annals of American history gives it space to simply be a rollicking story set in American history, unburdened by the pressure to speak to present-day concerns. And on this front, it undoubtedly succeeds.” And I’m watching. Netflix has also added Ek Chatur Naar, a 2025 Hindi comedy. Divya Khosla stars as Mamta, here, a widowed mom who lives in poverty in Lucknow, while working hard just to provide for herself and her son. Living with her mother-in-law (Chhaya Kadam), and hounded by a loan shark, Mamta is focused only on survival. But then she gets hold of the phone of Abhishek(Neil Nitin Mukesh) a corrupt high roller who helps politicians out of difficult situations. And she comes up with a plan to ransom off his phone, which contains evidence of his corruption. Geeta Agrawal Sharma, Sushant Singh and Yashpal Sharma also star, while Umesh Shukla directs. And this movie gets a rousing 8.1/10 on IMDb, and Dhavel Roy of the Times of India calls it ” irreverent, clever, and consistently entertaining.” And I am so tuning in. Netflix also offers Heweliusz, a 2025 Polish historical drama limited series. Based on a true incident, this takes place in 1993, when the Polish ferry MS Jan Heweliusz capsized in the Baltic Sea, on it’s way to Sweden. As the passengers try to survive the icy waters of January in the Baltic, rescue ships have to come from Germany, as they are in German waters. In the tragic aftermath, survivors and families of the dead want answers, and the blame seems to fall on the deceased captain. But his widow Jolanta Ułasiewicz(Magdalena Różczka) is intent on protecting her husband’s good name, and the cry for truth rises to the fore. Michał Żurawski, Konrad Eleryk, Justyna Wasilewska and Borys Szyc also star, and there are 5 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a whopping 7.7/10 on IMDb, and High on Films calls it “a slow-burning drama, meticulously capturing grief, fear, and resilience, leaving viewers haunted and reflecting on the real-life human cost long after the credits roll.” And I’m tuning in. And, finally Netflix has added As You Stood By, a 2025 K-drama revenge thriller limited-series. This is a tale of two women, En-su (Jeon So-nee), who works in a high end department store, and Hui-su (Lee Yoo-mi), her married friend. Though Hui-su has a seemingly perfect marriage to Jin-pyo (Jang Seung-jo), En-su comes to realize her friend is being both physically and emotionally abused. And as Hui-su’s injuries become more serious, En-su approaches her with a plan. Lee Moo-saeng, Lee Ho-jung and Kim Mi-kyung also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And this series gets a smashing 7.6/10 on IMDb, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it , adding it has “a slow build, but its a worthwhile story to stick with as two women take back the control they lost in the face of abuse.” And I am so tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon‘s biggest title added this week is Tyler Perry’s Finding Joy, a 2025 romance. Here, Joy (Shannon Thornton Colton) travels to Colorado to meet the family of Colton(Aaron O’Connell). But when she finds that Colton wants only to be friends, since he’s already engaged, Joy takes off, and tries to make it to the airport. But, of course, she doesn’t, instead, she ends up driving into an icy lake, and finds herself saved by Ridge(Tosin Morohunfola). And, of course, the two are destined to become a forever couple. Brittany S. Hall, Inayah, Eric Stanton Betts, Aaron O’Connell, Natalie O’Connell and Whitney Goin also star, while Perry directs, along with writing the script. but this movie misses it’s mark, and gets only a 4.3/10 on IMDb. And Owen Gleiberman of Variety says “it’s Perry’s version of a holiday movie and a connect-the-dots love story, but it’s cliché-driven in such a minimal way that it almost makes you yearn for the Perry movies that can feel like a long night of channel surfing all rolled into one.” So I won’t be tuning in. Luckily, Amazon also offers Petra, a 2020 Italian crime drama series. This follows Inspector Petra Delicado (Paola Cortellesi), as she solves crimes in Genoa. But Petra, a former lawyer, did more desk work than active investigations, and not used to working on the street. Still, when a series of violent rapes take place, she called to work the case with Antonio Monte(Andrea Pennachi), an older and street wise cop. And though the pair have very different working styles that cause trouble in the beginning, in the end, they work as a well-oiled team. Diego Ribon, Simone Liberati and Manuela Mandracchia also star, and there are 7 episodes available for streaming now. and Paola Cortellesi was nominated for Best Actor at the 2021 Golden Ciak Awards, and this series gets a 6.9/10 on IMDb, and Frank Schmidke of Bruttstadt said “the story develops its own pace and charm, even when it occasionally leans more towards drama than crime-solving.” And i love a mystery, so I’m watching. And finally, Amazon has added Nice to Not Meet You, a 2025 K-drama romcom series. this tells of actor Lim Hyun-joon(Lee Jung-jae of Squid Game!), longing to break out of his tired, stereotypical detective roles, who meets Wi Jeong-sin (Lim Ji-yeon), a reporter stuck on the entertainment beat. And, though they begin as friends, Jeong-sin’s intense interview of Hyun-joon turns them into enemies. But if they live to survive their rivalry, they might just end up falling in love. Kim Ji-hoon, Jeon Sung-woo and Seo Ji-hye also star, and there are 2 episodes available for streaming now, with 14 more to come. And this series gets an outrageous 7.7/10 on IMDb, and Kanak Nopany of IGN calls it “one of those K-dramas that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s exactly what makes it fun to watch. It’s light, a little silly, and just dramatic enough to keep you going.” And I’m tuning in.
So sit back and binge this weekend, on classics, old and new, on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Enjoy!
