Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has some exciting adds this week, with movies like Together, the 2024 horror movie. Here, Tim and Millie (Dave Franco & Alison Brie) move to the country, hoping to repair their marriage. But during a hike, they get lost, and have to shelter from the rain in a weird cave. And as they warm to each other’s company, they also find their bodies are actually growing together, with one leg on each, adhered together. And though they manage to detach from one another the first time, with wounds resulting on their legs, they find the problem doesn’t go away. And though at first they panic, they might be able to find a symbiosis, that will save them from their gruesome fate. Damon Herriman, Jack Kenny, and Sunny S. Walia also star, and Michael Shanks directed. And this movie gets a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Harry Stainer of Empire Magazine called it a “modern love story with a dash of Cronenberg for good measure — a brutal portrait of messy, intense long-term love. Warts, blood, bones and all.” But probably too gruesome for me. Hulu has also added Ash, the 2025 sci-fi horror movie. This finds Riya Ortiz(Eiza González), a crew member on a spaceship bound for the planet Ash, awakening to find everyone else on the ship dead. Slain, in fact, and with a wound on her own head, Riya can remember nothing of what occurred. So she goes to extremes to get her memory back. But then Brion(Aaron Paul), arrives, saying he’s answering a distress signal, the pair try to get off the lethal planet, while Riya simmers with distrust for the newcomer, desperate to recover her memory. Beulah Koale, Iko Uwais and Kate Elliott also star, while Flying Lotus directed. And this movie gets a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Peter Debruge of Variety said the movie’s “razor-sharp visuals leave scratch marks on the back of your eyeballs, liable to burst back into your consciousness in subsequent dreams… Check your brain, and you’ll be just fine.” So you know it’s too scary for me. Luckily, Hulu also offers America’s National Parks, a 2022-23 Nat Geo series. This series focuses on different National Parks, with some very well known ones included, like Yosemite and the Badlands. But it also includes some less well known parks like the Channel Islands and Hawai’i Volcanoes(!) are featured, as well. and in each episode we get to revel in the beauty of each park, with the animals that live there featuring front and center. And Garth Brooks narrates 7 episodes available now. And this series gets a sparkling 7.7/10 on IMDb, and Emma Clark-Dow of the The Post NZ said it “shows all the reasons these parks should be celebrated as a national treasure – and hopefully will make viewers take note.” And I’m watching. And, finally, Hulu has added No Nos Moverán, a 2024 black comedy. Titled We Shall Not Be Moved in English, this tells of Socorro (Luisa Huertas), an aging lawyer in Mexico City, who dreams only of avenging the death of her brother, Coque, in the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre, where protesting students like him, were killed. And since Socorro has a picture of the smiling officer who killed Coque, she approaches her son Jorgue, with an absurd plan to kill him. But Socorro is also mired in guilt and regrets, that make an easy solution seem out of reach. Pedro Hernandez, Agustina Quinci, Alberto Trujillo, and Juan Carlos Colombo also star, andPierre Saint-Martin directed. And this beautiful black and white movie has won numerous awards, including Best Film at the Guadalajara International Film Festival and Luisa Huertas winning Best Actress at the Cognac Festival du Film Policier and the Ariel Awards, in Mexico. And it’s also Mexico’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. And it gets an astounding 7.5/10 on IMDb, and Naser Nahandian of Gazettely calls it “a powerful, uncompromising character study that transmutes a national trauma into an existential portrait of consuming rage.” And I’m so tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix has added Run Away, a 2025 Harlen Coben British crime drama mini series. Here, financier Simon Greene(James Nesbitt) has been in a state of panic since his daughter, Paige (Ellie de Lange), went missing. Her addiction to drugs complicates matters as does her boyfriend, Aaron (Thomas Flynn) who Simon assaults in a rage. And when Aaron winds up dead, Simon is a major suspect. Luckily, PI Elena Ravenscroft (Ruth Jones) is investigating a similar missing persons case, and she may end up saving Simon‘s neck.Minnie Driver(!), Dan Chapman, Mark Bazeley and Amy Gledhill also star, and there are 6 episodes available from bingeing now. And this series gets a 7/10 on IMDb, and Peter Travers of The Travers Take says it “hits the ground running with a twist ending that will drop your jaw to the floor.” So I’m watching. Netflix has also added Land of Sin, a 2025 limited Swedish crime drama series. This finds police Detective Dani (Krista Kosonen) called from Malmö, to the Bjäre peninsula, where a teen, Silas, she knew has disappeared. So she heads to the peninsula with her new partner, Malik (Mohammed Nour Oklah), and when Silas‘ body is found, she heads the investigation. but they have one week to solve the crime, before locals take the law into their own hands. Lisa Lindgren, Peter Gantman and Ceasar Matijasevic also star, and there are 5 episodes available for streaming now. And it gets a 6.1/10 on IMDb, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, calling it “a solid Scandi noir thriller.” And I am so tuning in. Netflix also offers Ullozhukku, a 2024 Indian drama. This takes place in the flooded regions of Kerala, India, where Anju(Parvathy Thiruvothu) lives with her husband, Thomaskutty(Prashanth Murali) and his sick mother, Leelamma(Urvashi). But Anju was forced into the marriage by her parents, after an affair with Rajeev(Arjun Radhakrishnan). And when Thomaskutty dies, a pregnant Anju wants to go back to Rajeev. But Leelamma has learned the truth, and confronts her daughter-in-law, as the waters rise, and they attempt to bury Thomaskutty. Jaya Kurup, Smruthi Anish and Shebin Benson also star, and Christo Tomy directed. And this movie won multiple awards this year, including Best Actress for Urvashi at the Kerala State Film Awards, and Best Supporting Actress for Urvashi, and Best Malayalam Film at the National Film Awards. And it gets a stunning 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Kirubhakar Purushothaman of The Indian Express called it a “subtle and profound drama backed by incredible Urvashi and Parvathy.” So I’m definitely watching. Netflix has also added Time Flies, a 2025 Argentinian drama series. Here, after being paroled from prison for the murder of her husband, Inés(Carla Peterson) finds herself working for the fumigation company of another ex-con, her friend Manca (Nancy Dupláa). But the company is in trouble, and as Inés struggles with civilian life, Manca finds a lump in her breast. Needing an expensive biopsy, the pair goes to work at the house of the rich Susana Bonar (Valeria Lois). but instead of wanting fumigation, Susana wants the notorious Inés to get rid of her own husband. Julia Dorto, Osky Guzmán and Jimena Anganuzzi also star, and there are 6 episodes available for streaming now. And though this series gets a 5.7/10 on IMDb, it also gets great reviews, like that of Anjali Sharma of the Midgard Times, who calls it “grounded and emotionally rich….a thoughtful, engaging series that rewards patience and attention.” So I’m tuning in. And, finally, Netflix has Haq, a 2025 Indian drama. Based on a true story, this tells of Shazia Bano(Yami Gautam Dhar) , a married Muslim woman who sued her husband Abbas Khan (Emraan Hashmi),in the 1980‘s, after he married his second wife, and cut off Shazia‘s child support . As Shazia’s position gets more desperate , she goes to a lawyer, and sues her husband. And to the surprise of the conservative Muslims around her, she and her lawyer use the Koran to fortify her case. Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Husain and Vartika Singh also star, while Suparn Verma directs. And it gets an astounding 8.3/10 on IMDb, and Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express said Haq “achieves what it sets out to do with clear-eyed empathy, giving us an ordinary woman who found extraordinary strength and resilience to fight for her cause, and created, without ever quite realising it, history.” And I’m definitely tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon has a huge add this week with The Naked Gun, the 2025 remake. Here, Lt. Frank Drebin Jr.(Liam Neeson!) runs wild in the L.A. police department, flouting the rules, his father always followed. So, as Drebin tries to avoid investigation himself, he digs into two related cases with his partner, Ed Hocken Jr. (Paul Walter Hauser). There’s a bank robbery that needs solving, but also a suicide, that brings the victim’s sister, Beth Davenport ( Pamela Anderson), to Drebin’s door. And as the temperatures rise between the pair, so does word of a villainous plot that could wreak havoc on the world. Danny Huston, CCH Pounder and Liza Koshy also star, while Akiva Schaffer directed, along with co-writing the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. And this movie is nominated for Best Comedy Movie at this year’s Critics Choice Awards, and gets an impressive 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, and David Sims of The Atlantic said the “world needs more comedies, and the sillier the better. The Naked Gun is happy to deliver plenty of chortles, along with some wild swings that are just slapsticky enough to work.” And I’m definitely watching. Amazon has also added Final Destination Bloodlines, the 2025 horror flick. In this iteration of the the Final Destination series, college student Stefani Reyes(Kaitlyn Santa Juana) is plagued by nightmares about a lethal incident her grandmother Iris survived. She and her brother go to visit relatives, and see Iris(Gabrielle Rose), who tells her portentous story, before she, herself, is killed. After the funeral, Stefani combs through her grandmother’s papers, and tries to warn her relatives of their impending Death. Brec Bassinger, Rya Kihlstedt, Teo Briones and Richard Harmon also star, and Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky co-direct. and it gets an amazing 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and David Sims of The Atlantic said it “is well plotted and brilliantly grisly, but most important, it knows how to enjoy itself. I’d say that having fun, more than anything, is what people are seeking from the communal cinematic experience.” But you know I’m not watching. Luckily, Amazon also offers Sigue Mi Voz, a 2025 YA romantic drama. As Klara (Berta Castañé) has been cooped up in her room, filled with anxiety and phobias after incessant bullying at school, she listens to the radio constantly, with Sigue mi voz(Follow My Voice) being her favorite program. but the show’s host Kang RJ(Jae Woo) charms Klara out of her shell, and as they interact first on social media, and then in the real world, Klara begins to come out of her shell. But will a romance ensue? Claudia Traisac, Fernando Guallar and Itziar Ituño also star, and Inés Pintor and Pablo Santidrián co-direct. And though this movie gets only a 5.3/10 on IMDb, pickings are fewer on Amazon this week, and Ruchika Bhat of DM Talkies calls it “a really well-made and well-rounded film that is definitely worth watching.” So it’s on my list. But the dubbing on this movie is incredibly awful, so if you can, subtitles are recommended .
So sit back and binge this weekend, on classics, old and new, on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Enjoy!
