Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, toNetflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has few big titles added this week, but they do have Best Medicine, a 2026 comedy series. In this remake of the acclaimed British Doc Martin series, this one finds Dr. Martin Best(Josh Charles) moving to Port Wenn, Maine, to take up the mantle of town doctor. But Best has a problem , as he’s developed a blood phobia, that ended his highly successful career as a surgeon. Add to that his prickly manner, and general dislike of people, and his new job is not off to a great start. Luckily, he’s also met Louisa(Abigail Spencer), a school teacher in town, who might just change the doctor’s life. Annie Potts(!), Josh Segarra and Cree also star, and there are 1 episode available now, with 5 more to come. And this series gets a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, but Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times says “on the whole, it’s cuter, milder, more cuddly (multiple vomit jokes notwithstanding), more obvious and more whimsical, but less real, less intense and less sharply written than Doc Martin.” I agree, I’d rather rewatch the original. Luckily, Hulu has also added Bruce Springsteen: Nebraska Live, a 2025 music doc. This is a live performance, in black and white , of Springsteen‘s seminal Nebraska 1982 album. Springsteen performs all the songs from the album solo, on harmonica and guitar, in an empty Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey, with just fadeouts between songs. It’s a transcendent performance by Springsteen, with no interruptions, only music. And this Scott Cooper directed doc has no rating yet on IMDb, but rave reviews like that of Joel Keller of the Decider, who says to stream it, adding it’s “a concise live document of an American classic, and Bruce Springsteen fans will dig on seeing and hearing up close how the singer-songwriter interprets these songs now, almost exactly 45 years after his original home recordings.” And I’m tuning in. Hulu also offers Kevin Costner’s The West, a 2025 documentary series. This doc takes a more honest look at the expansion into the West , starting with the Treaty of Paris, in 1783, which ended the Revolutionary war. And though Washington and other leaders thought that Native Americans would sell their land willingly to settlers, settlers often chose just to take it, with or without violence. There was a push to settle in the Northwest Territory, which is now Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc., which caused Natives like Chief Little Turtle of the Miami to form confederations with other tribes, to try to hold onto their land. Each of the 8 episodes here approach a different expansion route, like the Oregon Trail, with the upheaval and violence that followed. And Kevin Costner narrates, along with serving as exeuctive producer. And this series gets an amazing 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, saying it “isn’t the usual retelling of the United States’ western expansion, because it takes the viewpoint that the US settlers were treading on an already-occupied land. But it definitely finds the nuance of both sides of the country’s push westward.” So I’m definitely tuning in. And, finally, Hulu has added Code 3, a 2025 comedy. This finds L.A. EMT Randy (Rainn Wilson!), burnt out and partnered with Mike (Lil Rel Howery), and training the idealistic rookie Jessica (Aimee Carrero). But Randy is jaded and exhausted, and finally, gives his boss his notice. And so, on his last crazy day, Randy and the others traverse L.A. , with Randy trying to convince Jessica not to be an EMT, while she reminds him why he became one in the first place. Rob Riggle, Page Kennedy and Yvette Nicole Brown also star, and Christopher Leone directs. And this movie gets a 7.2/10 on IMDb, and Akash Deshponde of High on Films said “Rainn Wilson shines in this tragicomic tale about working-class heroes working on the frontlines.” And I’m watching.
NETFLIX
Netflix has an exciting add this week with His & Hers, a 2026 thriller series. Here, Anna(Tessa Thompson!), a former news anchor who withdrew from life after the death of her child, who reawakens to life when an old acquaintance is killed in her home town. So she heads south from Atlanta, but, unfortunately, her estranged husband, detective Jack Harper(Jon Bernthal!), is in charge of the case, and does not appreciate her involvement. And things get worse as the case progresses, and Anna’s influence gets more and more distracting. Pablo Schreiber, Marin Ireland, Sunita Mani, and Rebecca Rittenhouse also star, and there are 6 absorbing episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a sparkling 7.2/10 on IMDb, and Lucy Mangan of the Guardian says “the twists, they are plentiful. The absurdities, they multiply. The viewerly enjoyment, it increases. The script — intoxicating mercenariness aside — is serviceable. The endeavour is bingeable. Nobody needs more, this early in the year.” And I’m so tuning in. Netflix also offers Defying Destiny, a 2025 Columbian drama series. Here, Maria(Marggy Selene Valdiris), finds herself forced to give up on her dream of being a teacher, when a teen pregnancy brings a desperate need of money. So she takes a job as a maid, in a rich neighborhood in Medillin, but as she makes friends and adjusts, she begins to hear horrible stories of abuse and slavery. And so Maria decides to find a way to the truth and to bring attention to the injustices all around her. Paola González, Karent Hinestroza, Indhira Serrano, Julián Díaz, and Bárbara Perea also star, and there are 64 episodes(!) available now. And this series gets an impressive 7.6/10 on IMDb, so, though I can find no online reviews as yet, I’m watching. Netflix also offers Good Night, and Good Luck Live, the 2025 Broadway drama. This takes place during the McCarthy era of the 50’s , with Joseph McCarthy running rampant against free speech. And so, famed journalist Edward R. Murrow(George Clooney!) fights to do a show on McCarthy( in real life, entitled A Report on Sen. Joseph McCarthy), against the advice of his producer Fred Friendly(Glenn Fleshler) and his superiors at CBS. A brave move that, in real life, helped end Edward R. Murrow‘s career. Clark Gregg, Paul Gross, and Ilana Glazer also star, while Micah Bickham and David Cromer co-directed. And this movie gets a stunning 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 8.2/10 on IMDb. And David Bianculli of NPR said the “closing news montage, bringing the story and the issues up to the present day, is as much a knockout punch as the final speech Clooney delivers as Murrow. He’s excellent. So is the play.” And i’m definitely tuning in. Netflix has also added Found, the 2024 crime drama series. Here, Gabi Mosely (Shanola Hampton) , lives in Washington D.C., and runs a crisis management firm, which specializes in finding missing persons. Not just any missing persons, though , but people of color, mainly women, whose cases seem to slip through the cracks at other agencies. But Gabi has more a special stake in this area, as she herself had been abducted, as a girl, which is shown in flashbacks. And there are plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing, in each episode. Kelli Williams, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Brett Dalton and Azaria Carter also star, and there are 13 episodes available now. And this series was nominated for multiple awards in 2023-24, and won Best Actress in a Drama for Shanola Hampton at the 2024 Gracie Allen Awards, and Best Drama at the 2023 NAMIC Vision Awards. And it gets a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Aramide Tinubu of Variety called it “extremely binge-able with an incredibly strong Hampton leading the charge as an Olivia Pope for the missing, “Found” is a series that likely would have soared anyway and never needed to be slotted in midseason.” So I’m watching. And, finally, Netflix has added Idol I, a 2025K-drama romcom series. Here, Maeng Se Na (Sooyoung Choi) is a superior lawyer, serious about her job and all other matters, except when it comes to her favorite band, the Gold boys band. And when she meets lead singer Do Ra-ik(Kim Jae-young), she thinks it’s love. But then another member of the band is killed, and Ra-ik is the suspect. And so Maeng Se Na is his only hope in court, and the only one who can save him from going to jail for murder. Kim Hyun-jin, Choi Hee-jin and Jeong Jae-kwang also star, and there are 12 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets an astounding 7.7/10 on IMDb, and Neerja Choudhuri of the Midgard Times calls it a “great drama and definitely the one to watch every week. It has amazing characters and a plot line that is filled with twists and turns. ” So I’m tuning in.
