It’s New Years Eve Day, and since you know I love sci-fi, and mysteries, I’m going to concentrate on shows of those genres to binge on, before you toast the New Year….and after, too! So let’s get started!
Let’s start with the essentials, first, the Twilight Zone. Yes, if you are hooked on watching the Twilight Zone every New Years Eve, and Day, you can still OD on that with Hulu. Hulu has five full seasons of the sci-fi classic, starting with Season 1 here. Some of the best episodes were the early ones, and Hulu has them, with stars like Martin Landau, Ida Lupino, Burgess Meredith, William Shatner, and more. And if you prefer the later ones, Hulu has those, too. Hulu also had a recent favorite of mine, and a smash hit of 2018, Killing Eve, from BBCAmerica. Hulu has all 8 episodes from earlier this year, with Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Fiona Shaw, Darren Boyd,Owen McDonnell and Kim Bodnia. And though this show is really tense and suspenseful(and sometimes bloody), it is also funny and wry, to relieve the tension, too. So, if you’re waiting to watch, don’t, this is a fine production with lots of great female heroines, and villains, too. Netflix has good sci-fi, too, including Travelers, the Canadian/American show starring Eric McCormack. This show is about time travelers who travel from a bleak future world, to occupy bodies of previous times , and the federal agent who pursues them. It has an ensemble cast, with MacKenzie Porter, Nesta Cooper, Jared Abrahamson,
Reilly Dolman and Patrick Gilmore joining McCormack. It is fun and exciting and Netflix has 3 seasons to enjoy, easily filling a 36 hour period with enough science fiction, time travel and adventure to fill your holiday. And, if Bandersnatch didn’t thrill you, and I didn’t like it, Netflix still has all of Black Mirror , with all four season available. It had some exceptional writing, directing and stars like Jon Hamm, Daniel Kaluuya, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rosemary DeWitt and Domnall Gleeson, to name a few. Netflix also offers Lost in Space, if you want sci-fi for the whole family. It has only one season, but wonderful special effects, and a storyline that can captivate. It stars Joel Kinnaman, Martha Higareda, James Purefoy and Renee Elise Goldsberry and is certainly a fun show. Amazon has some sci-fi too, with Philip K. Dick’s The Man in the High Castle, Amazon‘s original series about a dystopian future, where the Nazis won WWII. It stars alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans, Luke Kleintank, D.J. Qualls, Cary-Higoyuki Tagawa and Rufus Sewell, to name a few of it’s stars and it’s got 3 seasons now available online. Amazon also offers Doctor Who, with seasons 1–9(I think). Yes, all the Doctors from Christopher Eccleston to Peter Capaldi, and with some amazing guest stars, some of Britain’s best actors. If you want the classic Doctor Who’s with the first five, you have to go to Britbox, here. Amazon also has Twin Peaks, the classic horror/mystery from 1990. The masterpiece from David Lynch had a great cast, with Kyle McLaughlin, Michael Ontkean, Mädchen Amick,
Dana Ashbrook, Richard Beymer,Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn,Warren Frost, Peggy Lipton and many more. And Amazon has 2 seasons of Twin Peaks. And, finally, Amazon has Modus, the Swedish thriller, about a psychologist and ex-FBI profiler investigating a series of brutal murders in Stockholm. It starsMelinda Kinnaman, Henrik Norlen, Marek Oravec and there are 3 seasons available on Amazon. Y ou can watch these during your seven day free trial of PBS Masterpiece on Amazon, there are three seasons, and you can easily binge all three before your trial is up.
So binge to your hearts desire on science fiction and murder mysteries on Hulu, Amazon and Netflix! Have a wonderful night!
