There are some international shows that I haven’t gotten a chance to mention in the past few weeks on Netflix, so now is my chance. Here we go.
My first recommendation is Victim No. 8, a 2018 thriller series from Spain. It centers on a car bombing in Bilbao, presumed to be an act of terrorism where seven people were killed, and detectives go in search of the culprit, including a single policewoman played by Maria de Nati, who is quite pregnant, and though her superior wants to get her off the case(for maternity leave), she is determined to see it through. The cast also includes Cesar Mateo, Veronica Moral, Inaki Ardenaz and Lisi Linder. This is a super compelling show that will draw you in from the Adstart. And it gets an IMDb rating of 7.3/10. The second show I want to mention is Burning, a South Korean mystery from 2018. Adapted from a short story by Haruki Murakami, this understated movie tells the tale of a young man, played by Yoo Ah in, who meets a girl he thinks he used to know, played by Jeon Jong-seo, who, soon to go on a trip to Africa, asks him to care for her cat. When she returns from Africa, she brings Ben, played by Steven Yeun, and the three go to dinner, and surprises ensue. It’s an unusual movie, which premiered in Cannes, where it was nominated for the Palme d’ Or, in 2018 and is directed by Chang-dong Lee(Poetry). It gets a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.6/10 on IMDb. And, finally, Netflix has Residue, a 2015 British sci-fi mini-series. Set in an English city of the near-future, an explosion devastates a night club, and the survivors are put into quarantine, when people start acting strangely, while the government tries to hide the cause of the disaster. The series stars Natalia Tena, Iwan Rheon, Jamie Draven, Danny Webb and Emilia Jones and there are three episodes on Netflix. And it gets a 6.1/10 on IMDb. That’s all for now. Enjoy.
