So, it’s almost Halloween and you need more Horror movies ! No problem, I’ve got you covered, maybe even some you haven’t heard of, among the classics. Step right this way.
One great horror movie on Amazon is The Girl With All the Gifts, from 2016 Britain. Set in a dystopian world, threatened by a virus that attacks free will, and that causes the “hungries”, this movie stars Gemma Atherton, Sennia Nanua,Glenn Close and Paddy Considine. This movie has zombies galore and scares and also has a well written script and a good cast. And it gets an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. Another good scary pic on Amazon is Jacob’s Ladder, the 1990 Tim Robbins pic. About a Vietnam vet(Robbins) who suffers horrible and fantastic visions and hallucinations, and tries to find an answer to what is going on, after a fellow vet reports similar haunting experiences. This movie did do well in 1990, but it is a cult classic now, and has a wonderful cast, with Elizabeth Pena, Danny Aiello and even Jason Alexander and Ving Rhames. And it gets a 7.5/10 on IMDb, but beware, this movie can be depressing– Roger Ebert said of it “”thoroughly painful and depressing experience — but, it must be said, one that has been powerfully written, directed and acted.” Don’t say you weren’t warned. Another classic of horror on Amazon is Jeepers Creepers, the 2001 horror favorite. This ones about a brother and sister who find a grisly secret that threatens their lives. It stars Gina Phillips, Justin Long, Jonathan Breck and Eileen Brennan. Oh, and it’s executive producer was Francis Ford Coppolla! It gets a 6.2/10 on IMDb. Amazon also has Amityville Horror, the 1979 classic. This one stars Margot Kidder, James Brolin and Rod Steiger in the supposedly true story of a haunting in New York. It gets a 6.2/10 on IMDb. I hope those are terrifying enough for you, because now I’m going to recommend some less horrifying and shockingly awful movies for you, in case you have a weaker constitution, like me! Amazon also has Horror Express, from 1973. This is a tale of a 1906 archaeologist who is travelling via the Trans-Siberian Railway with his frozen anthropoid creature, which, naturally, thaws. It stars Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Telly Savalas and Silvia Tortosa and it gets a 6.6/10 on IMDb. Another classic on Amazon is Day of the Triffids, the 1961 British production from the book of the same name. You might say this is science fiction, but it’s also terrifying, given that alien plants are taking over the world. It stars Howard Keel(!), Nicole Maurey, Kieron Moore and Mervyn Johns. And it gets a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes! And, finally, Amazon has The Ghoul, a 1933 Boris Karloff movie. In this one, Karloff plays an Egyptologist who is buried with a jewel that confers eternal life, so when it’s stolen, things get rough. And this has a great cast, with Cedric Hardwicke, Ernest Thesiger and Ralph Richardson! And it gets a 5.9/10 on IMDb. So, whether you want to laugh or scream, Amazon has movies to make your Halloween!
