Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HU
Hulu has few big titles added this week, but they do have Shelby Oaks, the 2025 horror flick. This finds the Mia(Camille Sullivan), looking for her younger sister Riley, twelve years after her disappearance. But Riley was a You Tuber, one of four so-called Paranormal investigators, with the rest of her group being killed at a prison, Shelby Oaks. So Mia returns to the prison, where her sister disappeared, and investigates. And finds violence and horror. Michael Beach, Sarah Durn, Keith David, and Robin Bartlett also star, and Chris Stuckmann directed. And this movie gets a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes and Robert Abele of the Los Angeles Times said “the horror greats always knew how to mix the schlocky and the soul-churning. Let’s just say Stuckmann is still in the training-wheels phase.” And you know it’s too scary for me. Luckily, Hulu also offers Secrets of the Bees, a fascinating 2026 documentary from Nat Geo. This series has National Geographic Explorer Bertie Gregory investigating the intricacies of bees. not only their pivotal role in pollinating the food that ends up on our plates, but also their complex society and behavior. And we get to see close up video of their waggling to communicate with other bees, while also observing a female bee perform intricate tasks in a lab. And we witness a hive in trouble, and thrown into chaos, when a queen bee leaves, with many of her females following. Gregory narrates here, and there are 2 episodes available now. And James Cameron produced this series that gets an astounding 8.6/10 on IMDb, and John Edward Betancourt of Nerds That Geek says it “really is a special story about some of the most important beings on the planet.” And I am so watching. Hulu has also added The Voice of Hind Rajab, the 2025 Tunisian award-winning docudrama. This tells the true story of just one incident in the Israel-Gaza War, when Red Crescent volunteers were called to rescue a 6 year-old girl, Hind Rajab, trapped under a car during the Israeli invasion. As the girl frantically begged for help, the volunteers tried to traverse the not only the rubble before them but the violence that threatened them, as well. Saja Kilani, Motaz Malhees, Amer Hlehel, and Clara Khoury also star, while Kaouther Ben Hania directed. And this movie premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and six other prizes. It went on to win numerous other awards, including the Silver Hugo at the 2025 Chicago International Film Festival, and at the 2025 Ghent International Film Festival, while it was also nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 2026 Oscars. And it gets a sparkling 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an amazing 8.4/10 on IMDb. And Nikki Gemmell of The Australian called it “sobering, compelling, powerful…This film is traumatic, yes, but it also humanises. Hooked into memory now are a little girl’s pleas. That’s the power of art. Of voice, and of silence.” So I’ watching. And, finally, Hulu has Thaai Kizhavi, a 2026 Telagu dramedy. Here, Pavunuthaayi(Radhika Sarathkumar) is a tough older woman in her village, working as a money lender. But when she suddenly falls ill, her sons greedily circle, hoping only to get in on her inheritance. But when they hear of a cache of gold hidden by their mother, they rush to find it, while only her daughter Suruli (Raichal Rabecca), cares for Pavunuthaayi. Aruldoss, Ilavarasu and Vettai Muthukumar also star, while Sivakumar Murugesan directs. And this movie gets a smashing 7.7/10 on IMDb, and Jitendra Kumar of Bombay Today said “in its gleaming surfaces and grounded heart, the film finds a balance that feels both celebratory and quietly radical.” So I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
The big title added on Netflix this week has to be Beef, season 2 of the comedy/thriller series. This season brings a whole new cast of characters and a new story, with the new one revolving around the pricey Montecito country club, which Josh (Oscar Isaac!) manages, living with his wife, Lindsay (Carey Mulligan!)in their sumptuous home. But when their knock-down drag-out fight is witnessed by newbies Austin (Charles Melton) and Ashley (Cailee Spaeny), it puts them in an uneasy situation. Add to that, the country club has a new owner, who may have new ideas about who works there, and who doesn’t. And the stress drives Josh, Lindsay and others to the breaking point. Youn Yuh-jung, Song Kang-ho and Jang So-yeon also star, and there are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, and though some critics are disappointed with this new season, others, like Sam Adams of Slate, who enjoyed it, saying “the jokes cut deeper, and so does the drama.” And I’m tuning in. Netflix also offers Roommates, a 2026 YA comedy. This finds Devon (Sadie Sandler), a freshman at Walton College, ready for a new life and new friends. So when she meets her new roomies, Celeste (Chloe East), a popular girl, she is delighted, and the two become fast friends. But as time goes on, Celeste takes advantage of Devon more and more, and begins to wear on her nerves. So much so that Devon wonders if she can last the year with the annoying girl. Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, Storm Reid and Ivy Wolk also star, while Chandler Levack directs. And though this movie gets a mere 5.7/10 on IMDb, it still gets some good reviews, like that of Alan French of FandomWire, who calls it “a charming, if imperfect, college comedy. The absurd nature of the final act really helps sell the overall experience, but clocking in at an hour and forty-five minutes does test the audience.” So I’m watching. Netflix has also added Someone Has to Know, a 2026 Chilean limited crime drama series. Based on real events, this follows Vanessa Montoya(Paulina García), who investigates the disappearance of her teen son, Julio, one night at a discotheque. After the police find few leads, Vanessa decides to investigate the mystery herself. Meanwhile, Detective Montero (Alfredo Castro) is still digging on his own, that may bring them all closer to the truth of what happened to the teen. Clemente Rodriguez, Lucas Sáez Collins, Gabriel Cañas and Camila Hirane also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. and this series gets a 6.4/10 on IMDb, and Neerja Choudhuri of the Midgard Times calls it “one of the best crime shows you will watch.” So I’m tuning in. Netflix also offers Made with Love, a 2026 Indonesian drama series. This takes place in Bali, where Umah Rasa is a top restaurant, run by Sari Saraswati (Sha Ine Febriyanti). but when Sari’s health falters, and her hard-working daughter Luka Amanda (Mawar de Jongh) encourages her to step down, Sari instead picks Dennis Surta (Deva Mahenra) to be top chef, instead of her daughter. And although Luka is resents her mother’s choice, she stays at the restaurant, and tries to work with her new boss, who she loathes. But little by little, as the pair work together, they warm to the idea of working together, and maybe even contemplate something more. Adipati Dolken, Asmara Abigail and Helmy Wilson also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. and this series gets an impressive 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Anjali Sharma of the Midgard Times calls it “a warm, flavorful drama blending ambition, family, and food.” So I’m definitely watching. And, finally, Netflix has added Veil of Shadows, a 2026 Chinese dramatic fantasy series. Here, Lu Wu Yi(Ju Jingyi) joins her sister Wu Wangyan / Qing Yi(Chen Duling), in fighting the demons that beset Wei mansion. But then, there’s a murder at the mansion, and all the guests are suspects. And they aren’t all human. Joseph Zeng, Tian Jiarui, Yan An, and Rao Jiadi also star, and there are 27 episodes(!) available now, with 2 more to come. And this series gets an incredible 8.1/10 on IMDb, and Missy of Ch Drama Review calls it “a visually striking and thematically layered experience, blending romance, fantasy, and psychological elements into a cohesive story about identity, destiny, and human emotion.”
AMAZON
Amazon biggest title added this week, unfortunately, is Balls Up, a 2026 comedy. Here, two condom salesmen, Brad(Mark Wahlberg) and Elijah (Paul Walter Hauser), go to the World Cup in Brazil, to promote their new condom, Balls Up. But, of course, things go awry, and they end up interfering with the game, causing Brazil to lose. So now, they have to escape the country alive, with enraged fans and other dangers, threatening their lives. Benjamin Bratt, Eva De Dominici, Daniela Melchior, Molly Shannon, and Sacha Baron Cohen also star, while Peter Farrelly directs. But this movie gets only a 32% on Rotten Tomatoes, and John Nugent of Empire Magazine says “as far as titles go, Balls Up is about right. This is a disaster.” And I’m definitely not watching. Luckily, Amazon has also added Sarah’s Oil, a 2025 faith-based drama. Based on a factual story, this takes place in the early 1900s Oklahoma, where the young Sarah Rector(Naya Desir-Johnson)inherits some land, as the grandchild of a Creek Native. While others are dubious, Sarah is convinced her land has oil, and wants to keep it. But first her parents, Joe (Kenric Green) and Rose (Senequa Martin-Green) have to figure out how to pay the property taxes. And getting the rights to drill in a Jim Crow-ruled area seems impossible, until they get the help of two wildcatters, Bert (Zachary Levi) and Mace (Mel Rodriguez). Garret Dillahunt, Adyan Copes and Mel Rodriguez also star, while Cyrus Nowrasteh directed. And this movie gets an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, adding “it’s quite corny, but just as watchable. You could do far worse for family movie night.” So you decide. And, finally Amazon has In a Class of Her Own, a 2020 Chinese historical comedy/drama series. This series revolves around Xue Wen Xi(Jingyi Ju), a young woman from a poor family, who decides to go to work as a writer, to support her family. But to do so, she has to disguises herself as a boy, and so takes her brother’s name, Wen Bin. But then Wen Bin is accepted into the Yun Shang Academy, and Wen Xi must maintain her masquerade through thick and thin, even after she meets the governor’s son Feng Cheng Jun(Weilong Song), who may just be the man of her dreams. Beibi Gong, Wenjun Bi and Ruichang Wang also star, and there are 36 episodes available now. And this series won Golden Angel TV Award for Best Series at the 2020 Chinese American Film Festival, and gets a whopping 7.7/10 on IMDb, and Pandafan of Chdrama Fan says “highly recommend [this] heartwarming tale of friendship that strikes all the right comedic notes.” So I’m watching.
So sit back and binge this weekend, on classics, old and new, on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Enjoy!
