Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has a huge add this week with No Other Choice, the 2025 S. Korean thriller from Park Chan-wook (Oldboy!). Based on Donald E. Westlake’s 1997 novel, The Ax, this tells the story of Man-su (Lee Byung-hun), suddenly laid off at the paper company for which he has worked for 25 years. As Mansu seeks into depression, his anxiety also grows, with the prospect of losing his house and belongings looming. So he creates a scheme to land another management job at a competing paper company, with murderous intentions for his competition. Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, and Yeom Hye-ran also star, and Park Chan-wook co-wrote the script, along with directing, here. And this movie premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Golden Lion. And it went on to win numerous awards, including Best Film at both the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Stockholm Film Festival. And it gets a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and
Chase Hutchinson of the Seattle Times said “it’s a macabre, mirthful fable that, while not Park’s best (that’s still The Handmaiden), is delicately attuned to how people who otherwise believe themselves to be good can become forces of cruelty.” And I’m tuning in. Hulu has also added The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the 2023 dystopian adventure flick. In this prequel to the Hunger Games, this finds a younger Coriolanus Snow(Tom Blyth), not yet the evil president of Panem, mentoring Lucy Gray Baird(Rachel Zegler) for the upcoming Hunger Games. But as the pair form a romantic relationship, it interferes with their aspirations, and both their lives are threatened by it. Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, Hunter Schafer, Donald Sutherland(!) and Viola Davis(!) also star, while Francis Lawrence directed. And this movie gets a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, and
Shirley Li of The Atlantic said it “may be bloated, but it understands that The Hunger Games, as a franchise, didn’t succeed because it had a clear political philosophy. It succeeded because it entertained.” You decide. Hulu also offers Innate, a 2026 Disney+ Spanish psychological mystery series. The story, here, revolves around Sara Garay(Elena Anaya) whose father, Felix(Imanol Arias), was exposed as the infamous Diesel Killer, when she was a child. Ostracized for her father’s crimes, Sara built a new life, with a new name, new identity and a family, who knew nothing of her past. So when her father is released from prison, and new murders begins to occur, Sara is fearful. But as she looks more closely, Sara begins to realize the culprit many not be her father at all, but a copycat murderer much closer to her than she knew. Emma Suárez, Roberto Álamo and Celia Lopera also star, and there are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a 6.4/10 and Niels Gys of Crimenet Gazette calls it “a solid, occasionally gripping crime series that takes itself very seriously” And I’m definitely watching. And, finally, Hulu offers Good Boy, the 2025 black comedy/horror movie. Here, Todd(Shane Jensen) and his dog Indy, who plays himself, move from New York City, into his grandfather’s old house, deep in the woods. But Todd already has lung problems, that causes his sister great concern. Meanwhile Indy fears the house is haunted, and that Todd is being taken over by it’s black presence. And Indy tries to save Todd from the evil that inhabits the house, and still escape with his own life. Larry Fessenden, Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, and Stuart Rudin also star, while Ben Leonberg directed. And this movie premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival, where Indy won the Howl of Fame Award. Indy also won Best Animal Performance at the San Diego Film Critics Society Awards and the Las Vegas Film Critics Society Awards, while the movie won Best International Feature Film at the 2025 Festival Européen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg. And gets a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Kyle Logan of the Chicago Reader said “it’s pretty common stuff narratively, but the striking look and Leonberg’s ability to develop and sustain atmospheric suspense make Good Boy better than it needs to be. It also helps that Indy’s extremely cute and a very good boy.” But you know it’s still too scary for me.
NETFLIX
Netflix has an interesting add this week with Apex, a 2026 thriller starring Charlize Theron. Theron plays Sasha, here, an experienced rock climber, still mourning the loss of her husband, who heads to New South Wales for some alone time. And when she hears of the disappearance of travelers in the area, she isn’t too concerned. But then she meets Ben(Taron Egerton!), and after she refuses his advances, he promises to hunt her down with his hunter’s bow. And the chase is on. Eric Bana, Matt Whelan, and Bessie Holland also star, while Baltasar Kormákur directs. And this movie gets a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Tomris Laffly of RogerEbert.com says “prioritizing white-knuckle thrills over excessive emotion and explaining is one of the most refreshing qualities of this gorgeously shot picture about survival and fortitude.” But a bit too dark and intense for me. Luckily, Netflix also offers Santita, a 2026 Mexican drama series. Here, María José Cano (Paulina Dávila) is an OB/GYN with her own clinic in Tijuana, offering such good care to the needy that she is called Santita, or little saint. But Maria is also a heavy drinker and gambler, and stuck in a wheelchair after a car accident years ago. And when a patient, Cecille, has complications that bring her husband Alejandro (Gael García Bernal), into Maria‘s life, things fall apart. For Alejandro was the love of Santita’s life, decades ago, before she left him at the altar. Paulina Dávila, Hector Kotsifakis and Cecilia Cañedo also star, and there are 7 episodes available for streaming now. and Anjali Sharma of the Midgard Times calls it a “grounded, emotionally sharp love story.” And I’m tuning in. Netflix has added Unchosen, a 2026 British drama series. This follows Rosie (Molly Windsor), a member of the Fellowship of the Divine, a restrictive Christian sect, led by her husband, Adam (Asa Butterfield). Rosie is clearly repressed and unhappy, but when a stranger (Fra Fee), comes to her, asking for help, she is drawn to him. And as he is accepted into the fold, the attraction between the pair grows, while suspicion of them also grows. And the tension in the commune reaches to unbearable heights. Siobhan Finneran, Aston McAuley, Christopher Eccleston and Alexa Davies also star, and there are 6 episodes available now. And it gets a 6.1/10 on IMDb, and Sabrina Barr of
metro.co.uk says “your next must-watch series has arrived – and you’re going to struggle not to binge it in one go.” So I’m watching. But Netflix also offers The Red Envelope, a 2025 Thai supernatural comedy mystery. Here, small-time thief (and police informant) Menn(Putthipong Assaratanakul), thinks his luck has changed when he finds a red envelope in the street. But it turns out to be an invitation he can’t refuse, one to a ghost wedding to Titi, a trap set by Titi’s grandmother(Piyamas Monyakul). She tells him he must marry her grandson, or be doomed for the rest of his life. Several broken bones later, Menn agrees and marries the ghost of Titi(Krit Amnuaydechkorn), appalled to learn that he is a man. But as Titi haunts him relentlessly, Menn investigates the cause of his death, which almost surely was not an accident. Arachaporn Pokinpakorn, Jaturong Phonboon and Rusameekae Fagerlund also star, while Chayanop Boonprakob directed. And this movie won the Best Feature Film audience Award at the 2025 Hong Kong International Film Festival. And gets a 6.7/10 on IMDb, and Sneha Jaiswal of Abstracted AF! calls it “pure fun, mixing ghostly shenanigans, clumsy cops, and scene-stealing grannies with a murder mystery and a sting of betrayal.” And I’m tuning in. Netflix also offers On Your Lap, a 2025 Indonesian drama. Forced to leave her coastal village by the economic crisis in 1998, Sartika(Claresta Taufan Kusumarina), she wanders, looking for work. So when she meets Maya(Christine Hakim), an older woman with a coffee shop, who offers her food and shelter, Sartika is overjoyed. But there’s a catch, for while Maya offers her a job in her shop, she must work as kopi pangku waitress, forced to sit in the customers lap, as they drink their coffee. As Sartika struggles with the degradation and predation of her job, she also struggles to keep the job. But then she meets Hadi(Fedi Nuril) a truck driver who not only offers affection, but respect, who may offer her another way of life. Devano Danendra, Kaan Lativan and Shakeel Fauzi also star, while Reza Rahadian directed, for the first time. And this movie premiered at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, and won Best Supporting Actress for Christine Hakim, Best Screenplay for Felix K. Nesi and Reza Rahadian, and Best Picture at the 2025 Indonesian Film Festival. And it get a sparkling 7.9/10 on IMDb, and Panos Kotzathanasis of Asian Movie Pulse says it “delivers a compassionate but also realistic portrait of survival and resilience, anchored by strong performances and an unflinching look at a little-discussed facet of Indonesian society.” And I’m watching. And, finally, Netflix has added We Are All Trying Here, a 2026 K-drama series. Here, aspiring director Hwang Dong-man(Koo Kyo-hwan), lives in a sea of insecurity, and with his new movie due to come out, that anxiety is heightened. And his financial worries are ever present, as he struggles to pay the rent and other bills. So when he meets Byeon Eun-a (Go Youn-jung), her quiet stability grounds him, while her positivity delights him. But Eun-a has secrets of her own and troubles that follows her that Dong-man cannot see. Oh Jung-se, Kang Mal-geum, Park Hae-joon, and Bae Jong-ok also star, and there are 3 episodes available now, with 8 more to come. And this series gets a smashing 7.8/10 on IMDb, so though I can find few reviews online, I’m watching.
AMAZON
Amazon has added The Running Man, the 2025 sci-fi action remake. In yet another iteration of Stephen King’s 1982 novel, this finds Ben Richards(Glen Powell) competing in a life or death game show, in an authoritarian future world, where the Network runs everything, Johnson joins the game when his 2 year-old daughter needs medicine he can’t afford, and soon finds himself becoming more and more paranoid, as other competitors are killed. And as he continues to evade the hunters an seek safety, he becomes involved with anti-Network activists, who hope to bring the whole enterprise down. William H. Macy(!), Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Sean Hayes(!), Colman Domingo(!), and Josh Brolin(!) also star, and Edgar Wright directed. But this movie gets only a 61% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Linda Holmes of NPR said “as an action movie that hits the gas, gets the running man running, and doesn’t let up, it works quite well, and it’s a lot of fun. But some of King‘s sharper-elbowed commentary… is blunted a bit” You decide. Luckily, Amazon also offers Kevin, a 2026 animated adult comedy series. This series finds, Kevin(Jason Schwartzman!) , a neurotic NYC housecat, torn apart when his human parents Dana(Aubrey Plaza) and Dan(Mike Mitchell) announce they’re divorcing. Kevin goes nuts and takes off, prowling the streets of New York, til he finds the “Furrever Friends” Pet Rescue. Aparna Nancherla, and Gil Ozeri also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. And it gets a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Alison Herman of Variety says “it’ll never be mistaken for a kid-friendly weekend cartoon… Yet there’s a feel-good arc to Kevin’s journey that carries through even its most absurd and over-the-top concepts.” And I’m watching. And, finally, Amazon offers Naughty Business, a 2026 Spanish comedy series. This finds the conservative housewife Nines(Malena Alterio) in a bind, when her husband Mariano (Chani Martín) lapses into a coma, after a being hit by a bus. With the family business in trouble, Nines has no choice but to take the helm, only to find the video store is close to bankruptcy. So she opts to deal in only in adult films, the only genre still doing well at the store, with shocking results. Soon, the store is overflowing with customers and Nines has her hands full. What a time for Mariano to wake up. Celia Morán, Josele Román and Esperanza de la Encarnación also star, and there are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a whopping 8.1/10 on IMDb, and Radhika Menon of the Decider says to stream it, adding “we love a story about a woman rebuilding her life, and this Spanish series is both entertaining and titillating.” And so do I, so I’m tuning in.
