Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has very few adds this week, but they do have Twisters, the 2024 remake. This finds tornado expert Kate Cooper(Daisy Edgar-Jones), convinced by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) to leave New York City, and join him in Oklahoma, for what is expected to be an active hurricane season. There, Kate meets the arrogant hurricane hunter Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), who immediately repels her . But ,as the twister season heats up, the pair are forced together, and, well, you know the rest. Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane and Maura Tierney also star, and Lee Isaac Chung(Minari!) directed. and this movie gets a respectable 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Wendy Ide of the Observer (UK) said “Chung directs this serviceable disaster flick, a change of pace and wind direction after the delicate, cerebral approach of his previous film, Minari.” So it’s on my list. Hulu has also added Abraham’s Boys, a 2025 horror flick. Presented as a sequel to Dracula, this finds Mina(Jocelin Donahue) and Dr. Abraham Van Helsing(Titus Welliver) married and living in California, with their two sons, Max and Rudy. But as Mina suffers from visions and is haunted by the past, Abraham Van Helsing fears the return of vampires, and brings his own harsh dominance upon the household. Judah Mackey, Aurora Perrineau, and Brady Hepner also star, and Natasha Kermani directed. But this movie gets only a 42% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Randy Myers of the San Jose Mercury News said “Natasha Kermani’s adaptation plods and waits to strike too late in the game.” But it’s always too scary for me. Hulu also offers season 2 of Rivals, a 2026 British drama series. This season finds Declan(Aidan Turner) and Freddie Jones(Danny Dyer) team up to form a new television network, Venturer. But their hopes to rival the Corinium network of Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant) are threatened, as the Corinium network lures their prized producer Cameron Cook (Nafessa Williams) away. And that’s just start of the scheming and plotting that is in store for them, and the viewers, this season. Alex Hassell, Emily Atack and Victoria Smurfit also star, and there are 3 episodes available now, And this series gets a shining 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Aramide Tinubu of Variety says “to say there is a lot going on here would be an understatement. Yet, “Rivals” manages to be a grandiose display of brilliant soapy drama.” You decide.
And, finally, Hulu has Impuros, 2018-2023 Brazilian crime drama series. This takes place in 1990‘s Rio de Janeiro, where Evandro (Raphael Logam),dreams of a better life, who shows signs of a promising career, but ends up working in drug trafficking after tragedy derails his dreams. But his ethics interfere with his life in crime. And when police officer Victor Morello (Rui Ricardo Diaz) picks up his trail, willing to stop at nothing to bring the organization down, Evandro is faced with a formidable enemy Cyria Coentro, Fernanda Machado, Raphael Logam, and Rocco Pitanga also star, and there are 4 season, with 40 total episodes, available now. And this series gets an outrageous 8.1/10 on IMDb, so, though I can find no online reviews(as yet), I’m watching. .

Here, Detective Isaiah Stiles(Matthew Law) is haunted by past trauma, blaming the gang of masked robbers, led by Coltrane Wilder( Y’Lan Noel), But Coltrane is haunted by ghosts of his own, and wants out of the business, so he decides to pull a few last jobs. And so Stiles has little time to sniff ‘Trane out, and will use any trick in the book, to catch his man. Clint Worthington of RogerEbert.com says “when it pops off, it’s entertaining, and your patience will ultimately be rewarded.” So I’m watching. But Netflix has also added Soul Mate, a 2026 Japanese romantic drama series. This follows the decade-long relationship between hockey player Ryu Narutaki (Hayato Isomura) and Korean boxer, Jo-han Hwang (Ok Taec-yeon). After Ryu emigrates to Berlin, and is saved by Hwang from a fire there, the two become friends. And as they get to know each other, they discover a bond in their history of loss, that may change both their lives forever. Ai Hashimoto, Koshi Mizukami, and Yutaro Furutachi also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. and this series gets an impressive 7.8/10 on IMDb, and Shabnam Jahan of K-waves and Beyond calls it a “painfully beautiful story about love, loneliness and healing. ” So it’s on my list. Netflix also offers Marty, Life Is Short, a 2026 documentary. This is a loving depiction comedian Martin Short’s life, full of both triumph and tragedy. As director Lawrence Kasdan(!) tells of Short’s early life, with the death of both his parents striking early, he also tells of Short’s early successes. We get to see plenty of SCTV and SNL clips, replete with some of the great Short characters. But we also get to hear from friends like Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Steve Martin, and John Mulaney, along with seeing home movies from Martin Short parties. And we also get intimate interview with Short , himself. And this doc gets an incredible 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Odie Henderson of the Boston Globe says “this intimate and funny portrait of the actor earns the poignancy of a title that’s not just a play on words; it’s also the film’s thesis statement.” And I’m so watching. Netflix also offers Thank You, Next, a Turkish dramedy series. This series revolves around Leyla Taylan(Serenay Sarikaya), a successful lawyer with serious relationship problems. Recently burned by her ex-fiancé Omer , Leyla gets into serial dating with men like chef Feyyaz, unable to commit to anything serious. But when she gets to handle the big divorce case of Tuba Tepelioğlu (Bade İşçil), Leyla finds herself daydreaming about Cem Murathan, Tuba’s arrogant and insufferable ex-husband to-be. As they try to overcome their shock and bewilderment, they also find that people are disappearing in Haeseong City. And they realize may be their city’s last hope. Cha Eun-woo, Kim Hae-sook, and Son Hyun-ju also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And this series gets a whopping 7.8/10 on IMDb, and Archi Sengupta of Leisure Byte calls it “delightfully chaotic superhero drama.” So I’m definitely tuning in.
