Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has very few adds again this week, but they do have Arco, a 2025 French animated fantasy. Here, ten-year-old Iris lives in the year 2075, in a world beset by climate change, with her robot caretaker Mikki taking care of her. And then Iris meets Arco, a boy from the future (year 2932), and becomes fast friends with him. Determined to help Arco return to the future, she is intent on going with him. But as they endeavour to find his rainbow cape, that will allow him to return, they are beset by Iris‘ contemporary humans, that only want to obstruct his escape. Swann Arlaud, Alma Jodorowsky, Margot Ringard Oldra, Oscar Tresanini, and Vincent Macaigne also star, while Ugo Bienvenu directed. And this movie premiered at the Special Screenings section of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Golden Camera award. Also nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 2026 Oscars. It went on to win Best Soundtrack in a Feature Film and Best Feature at the 2026 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, and won Best Animated Film at the 2026 César Awards. And it gets a sparkling 7.310 on IMDb, and Michael Leader of Little White Lies said “this is primary-colour, major-key storytelling. It is disarming, charming and unafraid to be sincere – especially when it comes to the sparks of inspiration, creativity and connection that are so fundamental to human existence.” So I’m watching. Hulu has also added Incas: The Rise and Fall, a 2025 British Nat Geo historical series. This tells of the illustrious history of the Incan Empire, starting in the 15th century. The first episode covers the shadowy rise of the Empire, built on the shoulders of other preceding cultures, like the Wari and Chimú, the second deals with their ascension and the many architectural wonders they created during their golden era. The third also tells of their wealth and cultural rise, while the fourth deals with the arrival of the greedy Pizarro, with the Inca empire falling only 10 years later. Matilda Kime narrates all four episodes, replete with numerous archaeological experts, that are available now. And so, though I can find no IMDb rating or reviews, as yet, I’m tuning in. Hulu also offers Primitive War, a 2025 Australian sci-fi action flick. This takes place in 1968, with the Vietnam war raging, and a recon crew sent to a remote jungle valley, to find a missing Green Beret. But upon being air-dropped into the valley, the crew finds bird-like prints and feathers in the wake of the attack. After driving one of the creatures off, they wend their way into a tunnel, where they are attacked by some Deinonychus-that’s right, avian dinosaurs(!). And that’s only the beginning because soon, they encounter a T-rex family! When they’re rescued by Soviet paleontologist, Sofia Wagner, they discover what military shenanigans brought the dinos to the area, but not how to escape them. Ryan Kwanten, Tricia Helfer, Nick Wechsler, Jeremy Piven, and Anthony Ingruber also star, and Luke Sparke directed. And however ridiculous this movie sounds, it gets a respectable 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Leslie Felperin of the Guardian said “there’s a cheerful cheesy gleefulness that motors the movie along.” You decide. And, finally, Hulu has Azhagae Azhagu, a 2026 Tamil drama series. This finds Azhagu Malar(Anshitha Anji) and Mathi(Nakshathra Nagesh), two daughters-in-law, both marrying into the family at the same time. And though both are shocked at the transition into a traditionally patriarchal family, Malar accepts the male-oriented bias without question. But Mathi rebels, openly disagreeing with the family and her husband. And who knows where her earth-shakingly new ideas may lead the family? Madhan Kuma, Vincent Roy and Deepa Nethran also star, and there are 87 episodes(!) available for bingeing now. And this series gets a whopping 7.7/10 on IMDb, and the Times of India calls it “a fresh and emotionally rich family drama.” So I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix has a super-exciting add this week with The Boroughs, a 2026 sci-fi action series. This series, produced by The Duffer Brothers(Stranger Things!) begins with Sam Cooper(Alfred Molina), a retired TV technician, heading to the Boroughs, a retirement community, after the death of his wife. Disheartened and depressed, Sam is not enthusiastic with his new digs, but when a neighbor dies a mysterious death, and then another resident passes, he begins to suspect a cause other than old age. And as he and his friends go to investigate, they start on a journey that’s out of this world. Alfre Woodard(!), Geena Davis(!) Clarke Peters, Bill Pullman(!) and Dee Wallace(!) also star, and there are are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets an astounding 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and David Opie of Empire Magazine says it “more than just a spiritual successor to Stranger Things, The Boroughs is an original sci-fi that succeeds on its own terms, even if it does need to iron out a few wrinkles, figuratively speaking.” And I’m definitely tuning in. Netflix has also added Berlin and the Lady With an Ermine, a 2026 Spanish thriller series. A prequel to Money Heist, this series begins with Berlín(Pedro Alonso) and Damián(Tristán Ulloa) in San Sebastián, ready for their next big heist, when they’re pulled into shadowy new gig. It seems Duke Álvaro Hermoso de Medina (José Luis García-Pérez) wants the pair to steal Da Vinci’s masterpiece, The Lady With An Ermine, soon to be on exhibit in Seville, for his own private selection. But, Berlin finds the Duke insufferable, and decides instead to steal the Duke’s private collection, under the guise of stealing Da Vinci’s work. But nothing goes as planned, as a mysterious women catches Berlin‘s eye, and throws the whole enterprise into chaos. Michelle Jenner, Begoña Vargas, and Julio Peña also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets an impressive 7.3/10 on IMDb, and Md Imran of K-Waves and Beyond calls it “quite enjoyable due to the performance by Pedro Alonso, its stylish production, and some truly suspenseful moments. While it might not have the most intelligent heist plot in the series, it does work as a drama thriller revolving around complicated personal connections and madness.” And I’m tuning in. Netflix also offers Flunked, a 2026 French comedy series. Here, small time conman Eddy Santozzio (Alexandre Kominek) gets arrested, and is offered the chance to go undercover at a small high school teacher in Lille, saving him some jail time. Asked to find the son of a drug kin pin at the school, Eddy takes a job as a math teacher with the name of Edouard Martin. But, though Eddy is a math whiz, he’s not so good at his social skills, and so, ends up in the principal’s office on his second day. Unfortunately, that principal, Tiphaine (Leslie Medina), was his high school girlfriend, and Eddy has to scramble for a way to save his cover, and maybe, even keep a job he might even be good at. Laurence Arné, Joséphine de Meaux, and Sabrina Ouazani also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And this series gets a 6.6/10 on IMDb, and Belen Prieto of Espinof calls it a “hilarious French comedy” adding, “it has enough going for it to hook you if you give it a chance.” So I’m watching. Netflix has also added Bharathanatyam, a 2024 Malayam comedy. Here, Shashidharan or Sasi(Saiju Kurup) tries to manage the family concerns with respect and duty, as the eldest son. But when his bedridden father Bharathan Nair(Sai Kumar) asks him to bring his other wife and children to their home, Sasi is shocked. And as he tries to cover this scandalous news from his neighbors and friends, he also tries to control the chaos the news causes at home. With little success. Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Kalaranjini, Sreeja Ravi, and Santosh Balakrishna also star, while Krishnadas Murali directed. And it gets a 6.9/10 on IMDb, and Anjana George of the Times of India said “while Bharathanatyam may not break new ground in terms of storytelling, it succeeds in delivering a warm, engaging, and reflective cinematic experience.” And I’m watching. And, finally, Netflix has Goddess Bless You From Death, a 2026 Thai supernatural mystery/thriller series. Here, Thammawat Santasakol (Krittin Kitjaruwannakul), or Thup, is a temple orphan, who has extraordinary supernatural powers to see the dead. And when deaths occur at the temple with regularity, Detective Singh(Naret Promphaopun) is called to the scene to investigate, suspects Thup, at first. But as they work together, and the spirits continues to haunt Thup, his inside information proves him a useful asset to the investigation. And he and the detective grow closer than ever before. Lee Asre Wattanayakul, Michael Kiettisak Scofield and Lek Apichai Tragoolpadetgrai also star, and there are 13 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a sparkling 7.4/10 on IMDb, and Petty Drama Watcher called it “excellent, neatly balancing the complicated horror-mystery-thriller while still taking enough time with the romance to be satisfying.” But it might be too scary for me!
AMAZON
Amazon has a huge add this week with One Battle After Another, the award-winning 2025 action thriller. Inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland, this finds ‘Ghetto” Pat Calhoun(Leonardo DiCaprio!), and Perfidia Beverly Hills(Teyana Taylor!), fighting immigration camps with their radical group, the French 75. But then Perfidia takes off on her own, leaving Pat and their daughter behind. Years later, after Perfidia turned state’s evidence, Pat lives under the witness protection plan as Bob with daughter Willa(Chase Infiniti) in Baktan Cross, California, deflated and using drugs to get through the day. But then their old nemesis Lockjaw(Sean Penn!) comes looking for Willa, and he and his daughter are drawn back into the life of rebellion. Benicio del Toro(!), Regina Hall(!), and Teyana Taylor(!) also star, and Paul Thomas Anderson directed. And this movie won tons of awards, winning 3 BAFTAs, including Best Screenplay (Adapted) for Anderson, Best Director for Anderson, and Best Film, and six Oscars this year, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Penn), and Best Casting. And it gets an shining 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 7.5/10 on IMDb. And Justin Chang of The New Yorker said “as great an American movie as I’ve seen this year, [that] doesn’t simply meet the moment; with extraordinary tenderness, fury, and imagination, it forges a moment all its own, and insists that better ones could still lie ahead.” And I’m watching again. Amazon has also added Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, the 2026 spy thriller. Jack Ryan(johnKrascinski) reluctantly returns to the spy biz, here, at the request of his pals, James Greer (Wendell Pierce) and Mike November (Michael Kelly). But his package exchange with an MI6 agent ends in death, and Ryan and November are taken into custody by MI6 agent Emma Marlow (Sienna Miller!). But Marlow eventually comes around, and the three search out the sniper responisble for the agent’s death.Max Beesley, Douglas Hodge and Mckenna Bridger also star, and Andrew Bernstein directs. But this retread gets only a 46% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Peter Travers of The Travers Take says “Krasinski can do anything, except turn the livewire CIA operative he played for four TV seasons into something other than a pale shadow of his former self trying to pass muster in an ill-conceived two-hour movie.” So definitely not for me. And, finally, Amazon has added Missing, a 2025 mystery. Here, 18 year-old June Allen(Storm Reid!) awaits the return of her mom, Grace(Nia Long!), from a week’s vacation with her boyfriend, in Cartagena, Columbia. But when Grace doesn’t return on time, and the hotel says her luggage never left, June decides to dig for the facts herself, with the aid of Javier(Joaquim de Almeida), a Colombian gig worker she hires. But soon, a complicated web emerges, with the FBI entering the picture, and accusing Grace of criminal. Which is a lie that motivates June to prove her mother innocent, and bring her safely home.Ken Leung, Amy Landecker, and Daniel Henney also star, and Will Merrick and Nick Johnson co-direct. And this movie gets a 7.1/10 on IMDb, and John Nugent of
Empire Magazine called it “gripping, well-told, incredibly watchable thriller for a new generation of TikTok sleuths — and a compelling argument to up your average screen-time.” So I’m watching.
So sit back and binge this weekend, on classics, old and new, on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Enjoy!
