Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has very few adds of note this week, ironic consideringthey’re raising their rates next month, but they have added The Terrors of Jordan Mendoza, a 2026 horror comedy series. This tells the fictionalized story of Jordan Mendoza, who plays himself, a generally terrified person, who repeatedly finds himself in awkward and sometimes horrific situations. And tons of celebrities guest star in his nightmares, like Steve Buscemi and Marc Maron, making them no less bizarre. Sarah Cortez, Rachel Rosenbloom, and Elle Amyra also star, and there are episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a 6.6/10 on IMDb, and Robert Lloyd of the L.A. Times said it’s “disturbing yet funny, channeling David Lynch’s eeriness.” So you know I’m not watching. Hulu has also added Lucky Strike, a 2026 war drama. This takes place in December 1944, with Colonel John Castle (Scott Eastwood), caught behind enemy lines during the Battle of the Bulge. Alone and isolated, he has only his new-fangled portable radio named “Lassie,” to help him survive. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Roemy D. Mpeho and Kwame Patterson also star, and Rod Davis Luri directs. but, though this movie gets a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, Robert Daniels of RogerEbert.com said “director Rod Davis Lurie—the filmmaker behind “The Last Castle” and “The Outpost”—offers a lackluster, creaky propaganda picture that recalls several 1940s B-movies used to inspire people to buy war bonds.” And I won’t be watching. Hulu offers Africa Earth’s Wild Home, a 2026 Nat Geo docu-series. Each of the seven episodes here, cover a different biome in Africa, from Islands, to desert, to plains. And we get a unique, and heretofore unseen, perspective of the animals that live there, from a crocodile hunting bats in a near black cave, golden wolves on the hunt and flying saucer beetles harvesting water. And Wunmi Mosaku narrates each of the 7 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets an outlandish 8.2/10 on IMDb, and Photo Induced calls it “may be the best Nature Doc I’ve ever seen….the most stunning series of nature documentaries I’ve ever seen!” And I’m tuning in. And, finally, Hulu has added Invisible Boys, a 2024 Australian series. Based on the novel of the same name by Holden Sheppard. this takes place in 2017 Geraldton in Western Australia . And with a the possibility of legalizing gay marriage looming in Australia, four teens—Charlie(Joseph Zada), Zeke(Aydan Calafiore), Hammer(Zach Blampied), and Matt(Joe Klocek)—come of age. But when Charlie is outed on social media for having sex with another man, his world descends into chaos. And it puts stress on his relationships, with some of his friends reluctant to openly support him. Pia Miranda, David Lyons and Joanna Tuv also star, and there are 10 episodes available now. And this series won Best Series at the 2025 IFFA Awards, and gets a smashing 8.4/10 on IMDb. And Arash Nahandian of Gazettely says it “delivers a bold, nuanced portrayal of queer lives in a regional context. Its multifaceted characters and intricate narrative layers provoke reflection on personal identity and societal expectations. ” And I’m definitely watching.
NETFLIX
Netflix has added A Couple of Lies, a 2026 Swedish thriller series. This begins with two couples, meeting on a home-sharing app deciding to swap homes. So as Helene (Frida Gustavsson) and Carl (Fares Fares) head to Sicily, Scarlett (Emma Appleton) and Adam (Jakob Oftebro) head to Helene and Carl‘s home on an island near Stockholm. But things quickly get weird in Sicily, with and when a body is found, Helene and Carl immediately become suspects. But everyone’s got secrets here, and the truth will be hard to find. Diarmuid Noyes, Anna Bjelkerud and Magnus Krepper also star, and there are 4 episodes available for streaming now. And though this series gets a 5.8/10 on IMDb, Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, adding “If you don’t let some of the clunkier aspects of the show distract you, A Couple Of Lies is an interesting, fast-moving thriller where everyone has something to hide.” And I’m tuning in. Netflix has also added Minimum Wage, a 2024 comedy series. This finds pizzeria owner Mr. Sylvester (Randall Park!), heading to his shop, The Slice Club, in upstate New York. And since this is only pizza shop in his franchise not making money, he’s out for blood. So it’s up to the teens, earning minimum wage, working there to convince him not to close the shop down, and save their jobs. Unfortunately, some of them aren’t too invested in their work, interested instead in practical jokes, horsing around, or maybe even going to school, to do anything serious enough to save their jobs. Aidan Micho, Grace Reiter, Hyde Healy, and Julia Dicesare also star, and there are 14 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a healthy 6.6/10 on IMDb, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, adding “it will elicit a few good laughs and features a cast that’s fun to watch.” You decide. Netflix also offers Balaraw: Blood Island, a 2026 Filipino horror series. Here, Sabina Tejeros (Janine Gutierrez) travels to the remote island of Balaraw, years after the disappearance of her mother. Rebecca (Agot Isidro). Told by her uncle Arturo Syquija (Ronnie Lazaro) that her mother went to Balaraw years ago, and did not want to be found, Sabina heads there anyway, with Arturo, himself, and her girlfriend, Bulak Bernabe (Charlie Dizon). But nothing is as it seems on the island, and their survival is not guaranteed. Ronnie Lazaro, Teroy Guzman, and Archi Adamos also star, and there are 6 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a 6.1/10 on IMDb, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, adding it “has the makings of a creepy thriller that answers some questions but asks others in every episode.” You watch, I’ll be under the couch. Netflix has also added SCTV: The Greatest Show You’ve Never Heard Of , a 2026 documentary. This tells of the classic TV series that I have most definitely heard of, and loved for years. With past cast members, and now stars in their own right, like Martin Short(!), Catherine O’Hara(!), Eugene Levy(!) and Andrea Martin(!) tell of their experiences and how they made it work. But we also gets comedians like Tom Hanks, Conan O’Brien and Kathryn Hahn(!) reminisce about the great impact the series had on their own careers, and comedy, in general. And, of course, we gets hilarious clips as frosting on the cake. And this series gets a sparkling 7.8/10 on IMDb, and Richard Roeper of RogerEbert.com calls it “a no-frills film, relying on those golden-old clips, the warm, witty, and insightful memories of comic giants, and the sharp observations of modern-day talents. That’s more than enough.” And I’m so tuning in. And if this movie whets your appetite for SCTV, leaving you wanting more, Netflix recently added 6 seasons of SCTV, available here. And, finally, Netflix has Dead-End Job, a 2026 K-drama horror series. This series finds Byeon Hyuk‑jun(Lee Jae-wook) at the end of his rope, deeply in debt, willing to end it all. But then he sees a flyer for the Spyder Staffing Agency, which offers unbelievable wages for part-time work. In desperation, Hyuk-jun applies and is accepted by a creepy employer, Mr. S (Lee Hee-joon), who seems to know everything about Hyuk-jun from the get go. And as Hyuk-jun encounters all sorts of supernatural and creepy dangers, her implores his sister, Ji-yoon (Kim Min-ha), for help, wanting to come out of his alive. Go Min-si, Yoon Kyung-ho and Kim Seung-ho also star, and there are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a incredible 7.3/10 on IMDb, and Archi Sengupta of Leisure Byte says it’s “great fun and extremely entertaining. Despite some hiccups, it will leave anyone who enjoys alternative horror shows thoroughly entertained.” So I’m tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon has a big add this week with Ali G: Who Iz I?, the 2026 mockumentary from Sacha Baron Cohen. Here, Ali G is forced out semi-retirement , when he finds his girlfriend Julie is 8 month pregnant, and ,unsuccessfully, looks for work to support his new family. When he finds a fax from HBO offering him a new season of Da Ali G Show, he has to accept. But when Ali returns to the US, he finds himself attacked from all sides, even from the black American community, which accuses him of ‘appropriating’ their culture. And while on a new stint on The Free Speech Show, he interviews celebrities like George Santos and Newt Gingrich. Morgana Robinson, Alpha Miknas and A$AP Rocky also star, while Baron Cohen directs, for the first time. And, though this movie gets 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, with some considering it too tame, Nick Schager of the Daily Beast says “despite its inherent limitations and more than a handful of easy-target gags, it’s always mildly amusing—and, on a couple of memorable occasions, legitimately laugh-out-loud funny.” And I agree, so I’m watching. Amazon has also added Apocalypse Z: New World, a 2026 Spanish horror flick. This finds the world beset by a new TSJ virus , that has ravaged the world, leaving the Canary Islands as one of the few havens from zombies. So when Roberto(Carlos Alcaide) has to leave there to go to Spain for supplies, he and his fellows soldiers face a huge threat in the visit. And Roberto has hidden motives for going, leading his to question his loyalty to them and their cause. Jose María Yazpik, Santiago Vaca Narvaja and Mónica López also star, and Carles Torrens directs. And though this series gets but a 5.6/10 on IMDb, Miguel Ángel Romero of Cinemark calls it “bigger, more ambitious and with many more zombies.” You decide. And, finally, Amazon has added What Remains, the 2024 psychological thriller. This, psychiatric patient Mats Lake (Gustaf Skarsgård!) fearing that he is a killer and not just a child molester. So he confides in his therapist Anna Rudebeck (Andrea Riseborough!), who notifies police detective Soren Rank (Stellan Skarsgård!), who is anything but pleased to help out. But together, the three probe through the darkness of the case and Mats‘ childhood, to find the truth. Magnus Krepper, Éva Magyar and Irina Björklund also star, and Ran Huang directed. And this movie gets an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Leslie Felperin of the Guardian said “given that the Skarsgårds, father and son in real life, are performing a script co-written by Huang and Stellan’s wife, Megan Everett-Skarsgård, the twisted meditation on family dysfunction comes over strong, and the cast are uniformly excellent.” But you know it’s too dark for me.
So sit back and binge this weekend, on classics, old and new, on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Enjoy!
