Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has an exciting add this week with Phony, a 2026 mystery series. this series follows Sonny Cooke (Sam Nivola), a teen who lives with his single mom Ellen (Connie Britton!) in a small town in Oregon. And the two are terribly close, even going to school together, since Ellen’s the principal at Sonny‘s school. But after Sonny is in a terrible car accident, he wakes after a week in a coma, to find his mom isn’t the same. She looks slightly different to him, and she doesn’t share their secret symbol of affection( a shoulder squeeze) with him any more. But when his friends don’t believe him, (he did suffer a concussion), his behavior becomes more and more bizarre. But where can he go to find the truth, and find his real mom, before it’s too late? Mahaela Park, Grace Brennan, Maliq Johnson, and Meera Syal also star, and there are 4 episodes available for bingeing now.And this series gets an impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Ben Rosenstock of the AV Club says “as in early Twin Peaks, the urgency to get to the root of Phony’s central mystery is matched or even exceeded by the enjoyment of hanging out in its idiosyncratic world.” And it’s funny, too, so I’m tuning in. Hulu has also added Dolly, a 2025 horror flick. Here, when Chase(Seann William Scott) takes his girlfriend Macy(Fabianne Therese) for a hike, he intends to propose, not for a 6 foot goliath in a porcelain doll’s mask, to attack them, and take Macy hostage. As Chase meets an unhappy end, the mutant takes Macy to it’s dilapidated house, and tries to raise her as it’s own. But all doesn’t go as planned, and Macy may have to use everything’s she’s got to evade her captor. Ethan Suplee, Max the Impaler, and Russ Tiller also star, and Rod Blackhurst directed. And this movie gets just a 5/10 on IMDb, but a 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. And Randy Myers of the San Jose Mercury News said “Blackhurst gives it all a DIY feel and that further heightens the homespun, backwoods madness that ensues.” But it’s far too gross for me. Luckily, Hulu also offers Robo Mundial, a 2023 Argentine comedy series. Also called World Robbery, this finds Lucho Buenaventura (Joaquín Furriel) deciding to treat his youngest son Sebastián (Matías Luque) with a trip to the World Cup, only to see Argentina play. But when Argentina’s national team is disqualified, on a technicality, Lucho is disgusted, especially since his job at a TV sales company, will suffer. So he and his hapless friends decide to steal the World Cup. What could possibly go wrong? Javier Gómez, Carla Quevedo and Benjamín Amadeo also star, and there are 6 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a sparkling 7.8/10 on IMDb, so, even though I could find no online reviews, I’m watching. And, finally, Hulu offers Hunkkaar: The Roar, a 2026 Hindi thriller series. This series tells of the chaos that follows after the sexual assault of Meenu(Aneet Padda), a 17 year-old girl. But as Meenu was raped by Sunil “Baapji” Chakosi (Raghubir Yadav),the spiritual leader of her school and her town, she is not encouraged to report the crime. And when she does report it, and ACP Jasleen(Fatima Sana Shaikh), proceeds to investigate, she is faced with roadblocks and threats at every turn. And as Meenu is targeted by students and members of the community alike, there no guarantee of justice in the end. Zeeshan Ayyub, Raghubir Yadav, Aneet Padda and Arjun Mathur also star, and there are 6 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets an outstanding 7.2/10 on IMDb, and MD Imran of K-Waves and Beyond called it an “engaging story that brings power, justice and victim shaming into focus.” And I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix has surprisingly few adds this week, aside from season 3 of Nobody Wants This, which I’ve already recommended, so we’ll start, instead, with Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?, a 2026 Japanese dramedy series. Koji Yakusho(Perfect Days!) stars, here as Gen Takasegaw, an accomplished actor, the first Japanese actor to headline at the Globe Theatre. But when he returns to Japan. he finds no one remembers him at all. Not even his wife, Machiko (Noriko Eguchi). For while Gen was in London, a pandemic occurred, and the life-saving vaccine’s one side effect seems to have erased all memory of the great actor. So he has to start all over again, and rebuild his career. But can his ego take it? Kento Kaku, Kenichi Matsuyama, Yumi Kawai and Masatoshi Hamada also star, and there are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets an smashing 7.6/10 on IMDb, and Arash Nahandian of Gazettely calls it “comedy finds sharp, humane questions in unpaid bills, borrowed food, and the struggle to get cast.” adding it’s an affectionate, intellectually lively examination of who gets noticed and who gets work.” And I’m so tuning in. Netflix has also offers Dorothy, a 2026 Tamil drama. This film revolves around Subbu(Sananth) and Karthi(Rishikanth), fast friends despite the difference in their backgrounds and their castes. But all that changes when they meet Dorothy(Keerthy Suresh), the wife of Subbu’s older brother. They both fall under their spell, with Subbu spending all his time with her. And, when she is found dead, both Subbu and Karthi are crushed, but wondering whether it was murder, and not suicide, as has been declared. And when Subbu decides to finally present as female, after years of wanting to, with Dorothy‘s encouragement, the scene erupts in violence, with his family calling for an ‘honor killing.’ Jeeva Subramanian, Soundararaja and Ramachandran Durairaj also star, and Karthik Subbaraj directs. And this movie premiered at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, and it gets a stunning 8/10 on IMDb, and Bhuvanesh Chandar of the Hindu says “Karthik Subbaraj’s most audacious, disruptive film yet is a crowning achievement.” And I’m definitely watching. Netflix also offers Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia, a 2026 K-drama medical series. Here, when surgeon Gye Su-jeong(Kim Ji-won) first starts working at Guseo University Medical Centre, a commotion erupts. Because while Su-jeong is not only super talented, but also unable to pretend to be humble or coy. So when she also cannot ignore the corruption at the hospital, she reuffles a few feathers, enough that some imply she is the notorious ‘Doctor X’ who performed surgery in Cuba years ago, that ended in death. Lee Jung-eun, Son Hyun-joo, and Kim Woo-seok also star, and there are 6 episodes available now, with 6 more to come. And this series gets an outlandish 7.8/10 on IMDb, and Arash Nahandian of Gazettely says “these opening two episodes make hospital hierarchy entertainingly ugly, with Kim Ji-won giving Su-jeong’s refusals a welcome bite.” So I’m watching. And, finally Netflix has added Where the Mask Ends, a 2026 Chinese historical drama series. This finds the impoverished A Chou(Tian Xiwei) faced with her mother’s medical bills, and forced to take the offer of Lady Wei Rao(Tian Xiwei). For 50 million yen, Rao wants A Chou to take her place in a wedding to the seriously ill Lu Zhuo(Yan An), who hates Wei Rao, and wants out of the marriage. Still, when his family insists, A Chou and Lu Zhuo are married. But as Zhuo notices the considerable changes in his new bride, and the pair warm to each other, A Chou must watch her back, and protect herself from the ever vengeful Wei Rao. Kai Jiang, Xiaobei Liu and Yi Cui also star, and there are 21 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a 7.5/10 on IMDb, and Monica Yadav of the Hindustan Times calls it “a twisted tale of stolen identities, a dangerous marriage and devastating betrayals.” And I’m tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon‘s biggest add this week is probably The Terrminal List, a 2026 thriller series. this season finds Lieutenant Commander James Reece(Chris Pratt) alone at sea, on his way to Mozambique, to find his friend, Hastings (Tom Hopper). But, as Reece hopes to find refuge from all the killing and violence, he finds himself, instead, drawn back in, to find a renowned terrorist. Constance Wu, Taylor Kitsch, Riley Keough, Arlo Mertz, and Jeanne Tripplehorn also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And though this series gets just a 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, Johnny Loftus of the Decider says “Season 2 has a solid chance to outrun the grim tone of its first go-round.” You decide. It’s far too violent for me. Luckily, Amazon has also added Masterplan, a 2026 thriller starring Stanley Tucci(!). Tucci plays Roger, here, a retired art thief, who comes back for one last big score, stealing the Mona Lisa. Of course, he’ll need help, and so he enlists Chiara(SimonaTabasco) and Jay(Victor Belmondo), who pass his tests, only to learn(from him) they are both his children. So, as the family squabbles and sibling rivalries plague the trio, they try to steal the world’s most famous painting from the Louvre. Élisabeth Vitali, Mark Ivanir and Foëd Amara also star, while Thomas Vincent directs. But this movie gets a mere 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, and John Serba of the Decider says to skip it, adding “the story could conceivably go on forever as long as it keeps tacking on “clever” little twists, but lord help us, this movie already gives us enough for three movies. Three bad movies.” I won’t be watching. And, finally, Amazon has added Love in Disguise, a 2026 K-drama romcom series. As this series opens, police detective Kang Jae-hee(Seol In-ah) still suspects the powerful financier Yoon Yi-jun( Yim Si-wan) of murder of his secretary, even after his lawyer goes the charges dropped. So Jae-hee goes undercover, disguising herself as a man, to get the job as his secretary. But as Jae-hee works for Yi-jun, she notices some inconsistencies in his behavior, and also notices she’s falling in love. Kim Jung-hyun, Jung Yoo-min and Yeonwoo also star, and there are 2 episodes available for bingeing now, with 10 more to come. And this series gets an amazing 7/10 on IMDb, and Ayishah Ayat Toma of Gazettely says it ” makes an entertaining first impression by giving its disguised heroine a purpose that survives the romantic setup.”
So sit back and binge this weekend, on classics, old and new, on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Enjoy!
