Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has a hilarious add with Alice and Steve, a 2026 British comedy series. This tells the story of Alice (Nicola Walker!) and Steve (Jemaine Clement), the best of friends, who revel in each other’s company. Though they used to date, they now just friends. That is, until Steve sleeps with Alice’s 26 year-old daughter, Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith). Leaving Alice is fit to be tied, with a battle royale beginning, that could only end in disaster. Tyrese Eaton-Dyce, Joel Fry, Marcia Warren and Eilidh Fisher also star, and there are 6 episodes available now. And this series gets an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Joel Keller of the Decider says it “gets funnier the more the tension between Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement’s characters ramps up. But the effective way their friendship is established is what makes the tension work.” And I’m definitely tuning in. Hulu has also added The History of Sound, the 2025 historical drama. This follows Lionel Worthing(Paul Mescal) and David White(Josh O’Connor), as they meet in 1917 at the New England Conservatory of Music. But they’re separated by WWI, when David is sent off to war, and , only find each other years later. Still, their paths cross through time, as they each seek a career in music, always influencing each other, together or apart. Peter Mark Kendall, Chris Cooper(!), and Molly Price also star, and Oliver Hermanus directed. And this movie premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Palme d’Or. Josh O’Connor went on to win several awards for his work here, including British/Irish Performer of the Year at the 2026 London Critics Circle Film Awards. And this movie gets a 6.9/10 on IMDb, and Laura Venning of Empire Mag called it a “profoundly affecting story of doomed love and lost time that boasts captivating performances from Mescal and O’Connor. Come for the boys, stay for the magic of storytelling through song.” So I’m watching. Hulu also offers Jimpa, the 2025 drama. Here, filmmaker Hannah (Olivia Colman) takes her trans nonbinary teenager Francis (Aud Mason-Hyde) to visit their gay grandfather – “Jimpa” (John Lithgow!) in Amsterdam. But when Francis wants to stay in Amsterdam with Jimpa, Hannah feels hurt and betrayed. Especially since Jim left her behind years ago, with no resolution offered her. Bryn Chapman Parish, Tilda Cobham-Hervey and Eamon Farren also star, while Sophie Hyde directed. And this movie premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, and gets a 51% on Rotten Tomatoes. And Peter DeBruge of Variety called it “”category-defying” adding the “acting feels genuine across the board, wiith Lithgow (who wrestles an impossible-to-geolocate accent) emerging as the most fearless in an all-around daring ensemble.” So I’m watching. And, finally, Hulu has Taaza Khabar, a 2023 Disney+ Hindi thriller series. This series follows Vasant Gowde (Bhuvan Bam), a sanitation worker living barely surviving, with an abusive father. But then he has a chance meeting with an old woman, and suddenly finds himself able to see things before they happen. With that ability, he can invest in sure tings, and rise above poverty, bringing his beloved Madhu(Shriya Pilgaonkar), a sex worker, with him. But can it last? Mahesh Manjrekar, JD Chakravarthy, Deven Bhojani, and Prathamesh Parab also star, and there are 6 episodes available now. And this series gest a whopping 8/10 on IMDb, and Taniya CJ of Leisure Byte said “You have to stream it.” adding it has a “supremely enjoyable star cast.” So I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
The sole big title added on Netflix this week is Song Sung Blue, the 2025 drama. This is about two musical performers, Mike (Hugh Jackman!) and Claire (Kate Hudson!), who meet and fall in love in Milwaukee. And since they’re both Neil Diamond fans, they hit on a Diamond tribute show, performing together. But tragedy strikes, when Claire is injured in a car accident, and nothing comes easily. Ella Anderson, Michael Imperioli and King Princess also star, and Craig Brewer directed. But, though this movie gets a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Hudson was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her work here, it’s pretty cheesy and predictable. And Monica Castillo of RogerEbert.com said if “the narrative doesn’t get you down, then maybe the dialogue will, because it’sst friendperhaps even more leadened and cheesy than many might stomach.” So definitely not for me. Luckily, Netflix also offers Double Happiness, a 2025 Taiwanese romcom. Here chef Tim Kao (Kuang-Ting Liu) and Daisy Wu (Jennifer Yu) are excited about their upcoming wedding, until Tim’s father Frank (Chung Hua Tou) announces he won’t have his ex-wife attend too. So Tim hatches a convoluted plan with Daisy to have two weddings, at the same hotel on the same day, without his father’s knowledge. But complications, or course, arise, and then a typhoon hits, to throw everyone off their game. 9m88, Tenky Tin and Kuei-mei Yang also star, while Joseph Chen-Chieh Hsu directed. And this movie gets an astounding 7.7/10 on IMDb, and Enzo Barese of Gazettely calls it “a visually striking work that offers a resonant look at the changing landscape of East Asian family expectations.” So I’m tuning in. Netflix also offers Maa Behen, a 2026 Hindi dark comedy thriller. The story, here, revolves around Rekha(Madhuri Dixit) , a somewhat notorious widow in her conservative neighborhood, living on her own, with her grown daughters Jaya(Triptii Dimri) and Sushma(Dharna Durga), close by. But when her neighbor Charitra Kumar Gupta, tries to assault her one evening, and ends up dead, Rakha frantically calls for her daughters’ aid. But their efforts turn into a comedy of errors, when they find Gupta isn’t really dead, and they’re faced with the conundrum of how to keep him quiet. Ravi Kishan, Arunoday Singh and Geetanjali Kulkarni also star, and Suresh Triveni directs. And this movie gets an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Mike BC of But Why Tho? says it “seamlessly blends humor with incredible storytelling.” And I’m watching. Netflix has also added Viral Hit, a 2026 Japanese drama series. Here, the bullied high school student Shimura(Oji Suzuka) finds himself suddenly going viral, after he stands up to a bully in a fight. But it seems there’s more money in being beaten up on camera, and since Shimura’s mom is sick with cancer, he submits to the beatings for the income. Soon, though, he decides to learn to fight back from the martial arts expert TOU-KEI(Haruto Sakuraba), leading him back into the ring. Ai Mikami, Araki Sugou and Nana Asakawa also star, and there are 6 episodes available now. And this series gets a 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Vanessa Piña of Screen Rant calls it “” the perfect weekend binge…a thrilling underdog story.” So it’s on my list. And, finally, Netflix has added The Evil Lawyer, a 2026 Thai thriller series. This series follows Jittri(Rhatha Phongam), a shady attorney who will defend seemingly anyone, even murderers, and get them off. So when the by-the-book lawyer Mek (Nat Kitcharit), is framed for the murder of a police chief’s son, he is still loathe to ask for her help. But as the situation grows more grim, he accepts, only to find Jittri will only defend him (for free), if he works for her on her other cases. And so he’s forced down to her level, and finds himself questioning his every action. Atchareeya Potipipittanakorn, Songsit Roongnophakunsri and Popetorn Soonthornyanakij also star, and there are 8 gripping episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a smashing 7.9/10 on IMDb, and Pramit Chatterjee of Digital Mafia Talkies calls it “incredibly dramatic, totally unpredictable, and kinda funny as well.” So I’m definitely tuning in.

Amazon‘s big add this week is Every Year After, a 2026 YA romance series. Based on the YA novel by Canadian author Carley Fortune, this finds Percy Fraser(Sadie Soverall), returning to Barry’s Bay, Ontario, where she spent summers growing up, to confront her past. And with the death of the of her old flame, Sam (Matt Cornett), serves as further impotice. But when Percy learns that Sam has a girlfriend now, she’s thrown for a loop, and Sam isn’t too happy, either. Aurora Perrineau, Michael Bradway, and Elisha Cuthbert also star, and there are 8 episodes available now.And it gets a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Sarah Dempster of the Guardian calls it “sweet, irresistible trash.” But I won’t be watching. Tony Goldwyn, Yoson An and Daniella Pineda also star, and Jean-François Richet directed. And this movie gets an 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, but David Fear of Rolling Stone said it “is, in essence, the Frontier Airlines of action films: It’s cut-rate to a fault, makes you endure a lot of unpleasantness on the way to its final destination, and still leaves you with the distinct feeling that you didn’t even get what you paid for.” You decide. And finally, Amazon has added My Man Is Cupid, a 2023 K-drama romance series. Here, Oh Baek-ryeon(Im Jin-ah) seems to be doomed to be alone, as every man she dates meets with disaster. But she does keep bumping into Cheon Sang-hyuk(Jang Dong-yoon), who is secretly a cupid, who has shot himself with his own arrow, and in love with her. But he refuses to become involved human, and so he decides to help her. But can he avoid the woman of his dreams, with her shortcomings? Park Gi-woong , Moon Ye-jin and Kwon Ah-Reum also tar, and there are 16 episodes available now.
