Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has one add of note this week with 5th and final season of The Bear, the 2026 comedy/drama series. This season takes place mainly on the day following the announcement by Carmy Berzatto(Jeremy Allen White), that he’s leaving the restaurant. And as Sydney(Ayo Edebiri), Richie(Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Natalie(Abby Elliott) hear the news, they also learn they are now in charge. And they decide to work through the chaos, to try to earn a Michelin star. Matty Matheson , Lionel Boyce, and Liza Colón-Zayas also star and there are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a smashing 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Amon Warmann of Empire Magazine says “The Bear lets it rip one last time, earning all of the Michelin stars and then some. If this is truly the final service, it’s going out with a bang.” And I’m watching. Hulu has also added Americana, the 2023 thriller. Here, in a small Western town, everyone decides to go after the Native American artifact, the Ghost Shirt, including diner waitress Penny Jo Poplin (Sydney Sweeney). She talks Lefty Ledbetter ( Paul Walter Hauser) into joining her in a scheme to find it and sell it, using the earnings to make her a country music star. But other criminal types are after the shirt, too, and then there’s the group of Native American militants who want the shirt returned to the Lakota people. Zahn McClarnon, Joe Adler, and Halsey also star, and directed. But though this movie gets a 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, Dustin Rowles of Pajiba said it “feels generic, less like a straight Tarantino knockoff than a rip-off of a Tarantino rip-off, like 2 Days in the Valley, than a rip-off of the real thing.” So definitely not for me. Hulu has also added Queens of the Dead, a 2025 horror flick. Here, zombies begin a takeover of New York City and a drag bar run by Ginsey (Nina West), is left without power, with people unaware of what’s happening. But promoter Dre(Katy O’Brian) is determined to put on a killer show, no matter what. But when the bar is attacked by zombies, some of them in drag, the patrons and performers know what they have to do, to save themselves and the city. Jaquel Spivey, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Margaret Cho(!), and Riki Lindhome also star, and Tina Romero(yes, the daughter of George Romero!) directed. And it gets an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Joshua Rothkopf of the L.A. Times said “anyone who appreciates horror should find something to smile at here.” But it’s still too scary for me. And, finally, Hulu has added Grahan, a 2021 Disney+ Hindi action/drama series. Here, in 2016, Superintendent of Police Amrita Singh (Zoya Hussain) is assigned to head a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cold cases from the violent 1984 anti-Sikh riots. But as she digs deeper, Amrita finds that her family secrets rising to the surface, and that father may have been involved. Wamiqa Gabbi, Pawan Malhotra, and Anshuman Pushkar also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. And this series was nominated for tons of awards in 2022, and went on toe win Best Series at the SPOTT Awards, and gets a whopping 8/10 on IMDb. And Deepak Dua of Cine Yatra said it “is worth watching at your earliest leisure. It will end the lament that we lack good stories to tell.” So I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix has few big titles added this week, but they do have In the Hand of Dante, a 2025 thriller. Based on the novel by Nick Tosches, this finds journalist Nick Tosches(Oscar Isaac!), who learns of an original copy of Dante’s Inferno in the hands of a New York mobster. And he meets the don, Joe Black (John Malkovich!), who wants his supposed manuscript verifed…by the Vatican. And so, Tosches sets off on a search, with Black’s thug Louie (Gerard Butler) in tow, with other greedy crooks hot on their trail. Gal Gadot, Louis Cancelmi, and Martin Scorsese(!) also star while Julian Schnabel directed. And this movie premiered at the 2025 Venice International Film, but landed with a thud, heading straight for Netflix after only one week in the theaters. And it gets a lowly 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, and John Nugent of Empire Mag calls it “kind of a disaster. Not quite the seventh circle of hell — but it’s dangerously close.” So I’m definitely not watching. Luckily, Netflix has also added Raja Shivaji, a 2026 Indian historical action drama. This follows the rise of Shivaji Maharaj(Riteish Deshmukh), the man who would rise to become king, after a long rebellion against the powerful Mughal Empire, in India. Greatly influenced by his mother, Rajmata Jijabai (Bhagyashree), he deeply believed in Dharma. But, after years of war, he still had to defeat Afzal Khan (Sanjay Dutt), a Bijapur army commander who would stop at nothing to stop Shivaji. Abhishek Bachchan, Genelia Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan and Vidya Balan also star, and Ritesh Deshmukh directs, along with playing the lead role. And this movie gets a rousing 7.4/10 on IMDb, and Rahul Desai of The Hollywood Reporter India calls it a “critic-proof time at the movies.” So I’m tuning in. Netflix also offers The Science Club, a 2024 Japanese drama series. This takes place at the Higashi Shinjuku High School in Tokyo, where teacher Fujitake Kanae challenges his students to recreate a Mars crater. But Kanae‘s students are not teens, but adults, who have lives and troubles, outside of school, like Angela, a Filipino -Japanese woman in her forties, and Shozo, a 76 year-old man who never got to finish school. But together, they overcome their challenges, and surprise everyone with their success. Maria Theresa Gow, Aoi Itô, and Fumino Kimura also star, and there are 10 episodes available now. And this series gets an amazing 7.5/10 on IMDb, and Neerja Choudhuri of the Midgard Times calls it “a heart-warming tale of learning and second chances.” And I’m watching. Netflix has also added Husbands in Action, a 2026 K-drama action comedy. Here, when narcotics detective Choong-sik(Jin Sun-kyu) arrests drug lord Ma Do-jun, Do-jun‘s partner(and wife) responds by kidnapping his ex-wife, Si-nae, and daughter, Yeon-ju. Choong-sik goes into a panic, is forced to call upon Si-nae’s current husband, Min-seok(Gong Myoung) for help. And though the pair vie for the affections of Choong-sik‘s daughter, they might just manage to work together to save her and her mother. Kim Ji-suk, Yoon Kyung-ho, Kang Hanna, and Lee Da-hee also star, while Park Gyu-tae directs. And this movie gets 6.2/10 on IMDb, and Anjali Shama of the Midgard Times calls it “a fun, lightweight action-comedy elevated by excellent chemistry between Jin Sun-kyu and Gong Myoung.” So I’m watching. And, finally Netflix has added Notes from the Last Row, a 2026 Kdrama psychological thriller series. Here, when the disillusioned literature professor Heo Mun-oh(Choi Min-sik) first notices the student in the back row of his class, Lee Kang(Choi Hyun-wook), he is struck by his talent. As a failed writer himself, Mun-oh becomes obsessed with the promising student, offering to become his mentor. But as Mun-oh becomes more and more involved with Kang, dreaming of greatness, he loses his perspective, allowing his student, who may have ulterior motives, to take the upper hand in their relationship. Huh Joon-ho, Kim Yunjin, and Jin Kyung also star, and there are 6 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a 7.4/10 on IMDb, and Sarah Musnicky of But Why Tho? says “from its many twists and turns to the astounding character study delivered by Choi Min-sik, Notes from the Last Row is a slowburn ride that will leave you guessing until the end.”
AMAZON
Amazon has a big add this week with The Sheep Detectives, the 2026 comedy mystery. Here, shepherd George Hardy (Hugh Jackman!) takes good care of his sheep, which includes reading mystery stories to them every night. So, when they find him dead one morning, with the incompetent cop Tim Derry (Nicholas Braun) leading the investigation, they are determined to find the culprit. So led by Lily (Julia Louis-Dreyfus!), they begin to dig for answers. But they get any humans to believe their suspicions? Bryan Cranston(!), Emma Thompson(!) and Molly Gordon also star, while Kyle Balda directed. And this movie gets an outrageous 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 7.5/10 on IMDb. And Odie Henderson of the Boston Globe said “like any good murder mystery movie, the real fun lies in watching the performances and taking the overall journey. “The Sheep Detective” scores big on both of those counts. This is one of the most enjoyable movies of the year.” And I agree, so I’m tuning in. Amazon also offers Luo Yang, a 2021 Chinese historical drama series. This takes place during the Wu Zhou dynasty, when Empress Wu Tian relied upon informants, purging members from the royal court and trying innocent people. So when Gao Bingzhu(Huang Xuan) is wrongly accused of murder, he teams up with the son of the Minister of Works, Baili Hongyi(Yibo Wang) to find his father’s murderer. And, together with palace guard Wu Siyue(Victoria Song), they end up solving more and more unsolved mysteries in Luo Yang. Yong Mei, Song Yi and Liu Duan Duan also star, and there are 24 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series was nominated for numerous awards in 2022 and 2023, and went on to win 4, including Best Cinematography for a Television Series at the 2023 China Television Director Committee Awards. And it gets an impressive 7.3/10 on IMDb, and Drama Addict of Drama Slot calls it “definitely one of the best Chinese dramas for 2021.” And I love a mystery, so I’m tuning in. And finally, Amazon has See You at Work Tomorrow, a 2026 K-drama romcom series. This finds Cha Ji-yoon(Park Ji-hyun), a 7-year veteran at Saeum Electronics, tired of her job, a boring boyfriend, and interoffice politics. So, she goes to work for one of the most difficult managers, Kang Si-wo (Seo In-guk),known for his discipline and cold demeanor. And, though she was warned not to work for him, she finds he listens to her ideas and gives her credit for good work. And who knows what could come next? Won Gyu Bin, Choi Kyung-hoon and Kang Mi-na also star and there are 2 episodes available for bingeing now, with 10 more to come(the next one drops Monday!). And this series gets a stunning 8.8/10 on IMDb, and Ayishah Ayat Toma of Gazettely says “has a sharper social eye than its soft packaging suggests. Its office is filled with bruised employees, stolen credit, gossip economies, fake efficiency, and small rituals of survival.” So I’m definitely watching.
