Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has a big add this week with The Shards, a 2026 Ryan Murphy drama series. Based by the Bret Easton Ellis semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, this takes place in 1981 L.A. with17 year-old Bret(Igby Rigney) looking forward to his last year at the Buckley prep school. But when the new kid at school, Robert Mallory(Homer Gere), shows up, Bret’s world is upended. For Robert shows a callousness for human life, and as his lies begin to pile up, Bret begins to wonder if the new guy is really the notorious serial killer stalking L.A. , The Trawler. Kaia Gerber, Graham Campbell, and Wes Bentley also star, and there are 5 episodes available for streaming now. And though this series gets but a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, Rebecca Nicholson of the Financial Times says “though the episodes sometimes sag a little, and it is a bit of a stretch for these actors to be playing teenagers still at school, The Shards is knowing, sharp and fun.” You decide. Hulu also offers X, the 2022 horror flick. This finds a group of young filmmakers in Texas, looking a place to film a porn movie. So when they find a farm, director Wayne (Martin Henderson), doesn’t exactly fully explain to the farmer, Howard (Stephen Ure), what kind of movie they’re making. But then Howard doesn’t tell them everything about his wife, Pearl, though he mentions she has some problems. And star Maxine (Mia Goth), and the others soon find that Pearl has some very serious problems, that could get get them all killed. Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, Scott Mescudi and Owen Campbell also star, and Ti West directed. And this movie won several awards, including Best Horror Film at the Golden Tomato Awards, and the Sunset Film Circle Awards. And it gets an impressive 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and A.O. Scott of the
New York Times called it “a clever and exuberant throwback to a less innocent time, when movies could be naughty, disreputable and idiosyncratic.” But you know it’s too scary for me. And if you need more Mia Goth, Hulu has also added MaXXXine, a 2024 thriller. In this sequel to X, Goth returns as Maxine Minx, now a porn star, living in 1980’s Hollywood, hoping to land a role in the horror movie, The Puritan II. But her past returns to haunt her, when a copy of X some how comes to light, and there’s a weird stranger following her. So when her friends, and other young women, turn up dead, victims of the Night Stalker, Maxine realizes she may be the only one who can save herself from their grim fate. Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, and Kevin Bacon also star, and Ti West again directs. And this movie gets a respectable 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Jonathan Romney of the Financial Times said it “may not be West’s best film, but it’s as close as you’ll get today to a 1980s-vintage Brian De Palma thriller, and that’s some kind of a monster.” So you know I’m not watching. And, finally, Hulu has also added Untitled Home Invasion Romance, a 2024 comedy thriller. This finds Kevin(Jason Biggs) getting desperate, since he and his wife, Suzie(Meaghan Rath),have been separated for months. So he plans a getaway, to her late father’s house in Wapanoga, which Suzie avoids, due to her traumatic past there. But Kevin also arranges for his friend, Ernie(Arturo Castro) to pretend to invade the house, thereby making Kevin the hero, when he stops the intruder. But then Kevin is waylaid on his way to the cabin, and doesn’t show up, Suzie ends up confronting Ernie with a gun. And as an investigation ensues, all eyes turn toward Kevin. Anna Konkle, Justin H. Min, and Tianna Swaminathan also star, and Biggs directed, along with his starring role, here.And this movie gets a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Jennifer Green of Common Sense Media said “director-actor Biggs wanted people to both laugh and squirm with this directorial debut, and he’s achieved exactly that with a quirky, amusing, and also disconcerting movie.” And I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix has a big title added this week, with The Last House a 2026 sci-fi thriller. Here, Jason(Walter Moura!) and Ann(Greta Lee!) and their two kids find themselves trapped insides their suburban home, when a strange storm hits town. Unable to open the doors, or even break through their windows, the family hunkers down, until they’re learn from their neighbors that the whole planet is affected. After years of this isolation, they have begun farming inside their home, fearing for the future. And then the creature appears outside, and the water begins to flood into the house. Riley Chung, Noah Alexander Sosnowsk and Audrey Anderson also star, while Louis Leterrier directs. But this movie gets only a 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, and John Nugent of Empire Magazine says “Netflix’s latest attempt at the next Bird Box — a mysterious apocalyptic sci-fi to generate some watercooler buzz — doesn’t fully utilise its acting talents, but the premise is fun enough to justify itself.” Not for me. Luckily, Netflix also offers Manila’s Finest, a 2026 Filipino period crime drama. Here, Capt.Homer Magtibay(Piolo Pascual) and fellow police officers Conrad, and Billy try to solve the crimes that confront Manila. But they are also faced with the rising authoritarian regime under President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.. And so, in the end, they find themselves torn between fighting crime, and acting as criminal thugs for the president. Rica Peralejo, Enrique Gil and Ashtine Olviga also star, and Raymond Red directed. And this movie won multiple awards in 2026, including Best Sound for Allen Roy Santos and Best Cinematography for Raymond Red at the Metro Manila Film Festival. And it gets a smashing 7.9/10 on IMDb, and Arun Kumar of High on Films says it “turns a familiar chapter of Philippine history into a story about institutions and the people trapped within them.” And I’m tuning in. Netflix has also added Wild Sing, a 2026 K-drama comedy series. Here, the former members of Triangle K-pop group are confronted with a chance to reunite, after a scandal ended their careers. Twenty years later, two members Hwang Hyun-woo(Gang Dong-won) and Gu Sang-gu(Um Tae-goo) are impoverished, and singer Byeon Do-mi (Park Ji-hyun) is bullied by her mother-in-law. So they decide to reunite, but can they stand each other and the pressure long enough to make it to the top, again? Oh Jung-se, Shin Ha-kyun and Hyeon Seo-Ri also star, and Son Jae-gon directs. And this series gets a 6/10 on IMDb, and Sarah Musnicky of But Why Tho says it’s “decent enough to pop on and, if you’re old enough, cringe over the aughts aesthetic.” So it’s on my list. Netflix also offers The Vacation Principle, a 2026 Japanese dramedy series. Bakansu no Hōsoku in Japanese, this finds Midori Hashima(Kanna Hashimoto),overworked and stressed out, and she finally cracks, losing her job. So her brother Konta (Katsuji Ryo), convinces her to head to their late grandmother’s villa with him. There, she begins to relax, and she meets Nishigami (Chae Jong-hyeop), the caretaker of the property. But Nishigami has a secret that may prevent the pair from having a future together. Mizuki Yamashita, Aiko Kano, and Dori Sakurada also star, and there are 6 episodes available now. with the remaining 3 episodes dropping next Friday. And this series gets an amazing 7.2/10 on IMDb, and Sarah Musnicky of But Why Tho says it’s “potentially destined to break some hearts …a reminder that life is precious.” And I’m watching. And, finally, Netflix has added Our Sticky Love, a 2026 K-drama comedy romance series. When prosecutor Go Eun-sae (Ha Young) wakes in the hospital with amnesia, she is told her boyfriend Jang Tae-ha (Jung Hae-in), waits outside. Shocked and horrified at his scruffy appearance, Eun-sae goes with him to his village, to work in his grandmother’s taffy store. But Tae-ha actually works for Baek Sang-gil (Heo Sung-tae) the shady man responsible for her amnesia, who wants her eliminated. Jung Hae-in, Ha Young, and Heo Sung-tae also star, and there are 12 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a whopping 8.4/10 and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it , adding it “feels like it’ll be a fun romcom that can slip into being a noirish crime drama at times, which is certainly different from a lot of romantic K-comedies.” And I agree, so I’m tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon has an intriguing add with Sterling Point, a 2026 YA drama series. Here, Annie Jacobson(Ella Rubin) and her twin brother Connor(Keen Ruffalo) are shocked to learn their maternal grandfather Gordon, left them a property called Sterling Point, in Muskoka, Canada. Shocked because they never knew their late mother had roots in Canada, in fact, they never knew uch about her at all. So Annie heads to the island for the summer, she is determined to relax and unwind. But she also unearths many secrets about her mom’s life, and finds relatives she never knew she had. Amélie Hoeferle, Bo Bragason and Jay Duplass(!) also star, and there are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a massive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Aramide Tinubu of Variety calls it a “series about grief, self-discovery and being brave enough to face the past, “Sterling Point” is one of the most authentic YA shows in years.” So it’s on my list. Amazon also offers The Gates, a 2026t hriller. This follows three black teens, Derek (Mason Gooding), Kevin (Algee Smith), and Tyon (Keith Powers) out for a fun party night, in Texas. But then they reroute after encountering heavy traffic, and find themselves on a dirt road, in the middle of nowhere. So they’re relieved to find a gated community, but stymied by the locked gate. After a blonde lady buzzes them through, they wend their way through the mansios, hoping to find someone to buzz them out. What they find instead is the blonde woman, at home in a posh mansion, wither a man beating her. And when they notice the man,Jacob (James Van Der Beek) see them, they know they’re in big trouble. Sofia Hublitz, Kylr Coffman, Elle Evans, and Brad Leland also star, and directs. And though this movie gets only a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, Bob Strauss of the San Francisco Chronicle said “benefits from simple, straightforward plotting and understated social commentary that’s as effective as shouted outrage.” So I’m watching. And, finally, Amazon has added Couple Friendly, a 2026 Indian Telugu romantic drama. Here, Siva Sai Prathap(Santosh Sobhan) lives in Chennai, working as a bike taxi driver to get by. When he meets Mithra(Manasa Varanasi), a software engineer looking for work, he is enchanted, but when she loses her apartment, he offers her a place to stay, and she reluctantly accepts. And soon, she’s helping him set up a web page, and improve his career, and their relationship grows closer. But an argument tears them apart, and as they’re on the verge of reuniting and marrying, Mithra‘s father objects, and takes his daughter back to their village. But when Mithra collapses, and is hospitalized, Siva rushes to her side. Yogi Babu, Rajeev Kanakala and Sriranjani also star, while Ashwin Chandrasekhar directs. And this movie gets a splendid 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Divya Shree of the Times of India calls it “a bittersweet romance drama” that’s a “sincere and commendable effort overall.” So I’m watching.
