Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has few notable adds this week, but added Violent Ends, a 2025 thriller. This takes place in Ozark Mountains, where Lucas Frost(Billy Magnussen) woos bank teller Emma Darling (Alexandra Shipp). But as the pair get engaged, Lucas struggles to separate himself from his crime syndicate family. And soon, after a crime gone wrong by his cousin, Lucas gets drawn back in, and the ill-fated romance may soon come to an end. James Badge Dale, Kate Burton, Ray McKinnon, and Nick Stahl also star, and John-Michael Powell directed. And this movie gets a 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, but Kyle Logan of the Chicago Reader says “as effective and good looking as Violent Ends may be, it’s just too generic to be something special.” You decide. Luckily, Hulu also offers Oh Manapenne, a 2021 Disney+Hotstar Tamil romcom. In this remake of the 2017 movie Pelli Choopulu, Shruthi(Priya Bhavani Shankar), an overachiever, meets the carefree Karthik(Harish Kalyan) at a matchmaking event, but seem to have little in common. But, they both have dreams of which their families disapprove. So when Shruthi hires Karthiki as a chef for her upcoming food truck business, they dream of success, with little thought for the romance their families intended. Butm fate may hold a few surprises for the pair that they had never dreamed of. Venu Arvind, Anbu Thasan and Abishek Kumar also star, and Kaarthikk Sundar directed. And this movie gets an impressive 7.1/ 10 on IMDb, and M. Suganth of The Times of India said “worthy remake that is as charming and delightful.” So I’m watching. Hulu has also added Hidden Beneath the Cities, a 2026 Net Geo history series. This series takes viewers on a tour of some of the ancient cities of the world, but investigates the history underneath them, instead of the surface. We get to explore Midyat, Turkey, where archaeologists have uncovered the city of Matiate, replete with chambers and tunnels galore. We also get to travel to Naples, to explore ancient tombs, to Poland, where salt chambers are carved into great art, and even a cathedral. There are several American cities featured, with Florida, Washington D.C. and New York City included. And another Italy trip, Jordan, Seoul and Denmark round out the 10 episodes included here. And this series gets a 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Jules Byrd of TV Every Day says “this exciting new series promises to take viewers on a journey into the depths of urban landscapes, revealing the hidden histories and mysteries that lie beneath bustling streets.” So I’m tuning in. And, finally, Hulu has added Sobriety, You’re Killing Me. a 2025 comedy. This tells of Raffi(Octavio Hinojosa), the self-described black sheep of his family, who gets kicked out of rehab, and so, is forced to live with his parents. But as he and his mother Emilia (Mónica Dionne), are at each other’s throats, he is thrown out again, only to be given shelter by his last friend, Trino(Alfonso Borbolla). But, after making Trino’s life miserable, Raffi’s old high school flame shows up, and he is finally forced to seriously consider sobriety, as perhaps his only option left. Alfonso Borbolla, Maya Zapata and Juan Carlos Vives also star, and Raúl Campos directed. And this film won Best Feature Film at the Mérida & Yucatan International Film Festival, and, it gets 6.1/10 on IMDb, I’m definitely watching. And David Phillips of the Contending said it’s “at times uproarious, but never loses sight of the cost of addiction.”
NETFLIX
The big add on Netflix this week has to be My Brilliant Career, a 2026 Australian drama limited series. Based on the 1901 novel by Miles Franklin, this series follows Sybylla(Philippa Northeast), a farm girl sent from her parents’ farm to stay with her grandmother, Mrs Bossier(Genevieve O’Reilly), in her grand mansion. But while, Mrs. Bossier wants only to shape Sybylla up to marry her off, her granddaughter has other plans. Chiefly, Sybylla wants to be a great writer, and marrying might very well interfere with that. So the two determined women butt heads, as Sybylla fights to achieve her own dreams, and not those of her family. Christopher Chung, Anna Chancellor, Kate Mulvany and Sherry-Lee Watson also star, and there are 6 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a stunning 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Lucy Mangan of the Guardian says “It crackles with intelligence and wit, gives all of its characters room to breathe and, without ever becoming superficial, never loses its lightness of touch. A joy. A brilliant, brilliant joy.” So I’m definitely tuning in. Netflix also offers Midwinter Break, the 2026 drama. Here, Irish expats Stella(Lesley Manville), and her husband Gerry(Ciarán Hinds) travel to Amsterdam to celebrate Gerry’s birthday. And as they travel, Stella voices her dissatisfaction with her life, wishing for a more devout life, surprising her husband. But it becomes more and more apparent Stella still suffers from the trauma that caused them to leave Ireland decades ago, and, from wounds that never healed. Julie Lamberton, Ed Sayer, and Niamh Cusack also star, while Polly Findlay directs. And this movie gets a 63% on Rotten Tomatoes and Donald Clarke of the Irish Times said “Hinds and Manville skilfully convey a relationship founded on the most fragile of intertwining insecurities. We get a sense that both understand the evasions they are making and accept them for fear of bringing the whole structure down upon their heads.” And I’m watching. Netflix has also added To the Max, a 2026 Spanish action adventure. Based on a true story, this tells of a group of young people who find themselves involved in BASE jumping, in Spain. It begins with Carlos Suárez (Carlos Cuevas), a climber who discovers BASE jumping and then, meets fellow enthusiasts Dario Barrio (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) and Armandodel Rey (Miguel Bernardeau). But as the group gets more deeply into the sport, they integrate wingsuits into their craft, which makes their excursions more exciting, but also more dangerous. Stéphanie Magnin, José Manuel Poga and Paloma Bloyd also star, while Salvador Calvo directed. And this movie, called La Fiera in Spanish, gets a 6.3/10 on IMDb, and Oliver Armknecht of film-rezensionen.de said “is rather superficial in places and fails to answer crucial questions, it is nonetheless captivating and visually compelling.” So it’s on my list. Netflix also offers Don’t Say Good Luck, a 2026 musical dramedy. This tells the story of Sophie Birenbaum (Sunny Sandler), heavily into theater, and auditioning for the lead in her high school musical, Waitress. But then her world collapses, when she learns her mom Elizabeth(Melanie Lynskey!) has cancer again, and this time, it’s terminal. So, as Sophie struggles to deal with this devastating news, she learns she has landed the lead role, and wonders if she can handle it all, now. Luckily, she has her family, with her grandfather, Dale(Steve Buscemi!) offering special support. Jack Champion, Max Greenfield, Stephanie Beatriz and Bebe Neuwirth(!) also star, and Julia Hart directs. And this movie gets an incredible 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and Guy Lodge of Variety said “commendably thoughtful and quietly humane for much of its running time, “Don’t Say Good Luck” also knows just when to let it out.” And I’m watching. And, finally, Netflix has added The Auditors, a 2026 K-drama series. This begins with a tragic crane accident at a construction site, and so Shin Cha-li(Shin Ha-Kyun), and Goo Han-soo(Lee Jung-ha) auditors with are brought in to investigate. What they find is not only faulty equipment, but also corruption, embezzlement and bribery. And so Cha-li, Han-soo and the rest of his team continue to investigate, determined to find the culprits responsible, even as it puts their own lives in danger. Hyeyeon, Jin Goo and Jung Moon-sung also star, and there are 12 episodes available for bingeing now. . And this series gets a fantastic 7.8/10 on IMDb, and Neerja Choudhuri of the Midgard Times calls it “more than just a crime drama; it’s a profound commentary on systemic corruption and the resilience of those who dare to challenge it.” So I’m definitely tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon has few adds this week, but they do have season 4 of Reacher, the 2026 action drama series. Alan Ritchson returns, here, as Jack Reacher, a drifter and former military police officer. This season, Reacher has found his way to Philadelphia, and but, on the subway, he encounters a very upset woman, Anna Merrick (Karen Kwong-Chip). As she subsequently shoots herself in the head, the police, including Detective Tamara Green(Sydelle Noel), are convinced it’s a suicide. But Reacher isn’t so sure, and, after he questions her brother, Jacob(Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette) he is more and more convinced something nasty is behind all this. And as Reacher and Jacob search for the truth, they find it all comes down to a flash drive Anna had, that authorities believe is now in Reacher’s custody, that might him killed. Kevin Corrigan, Agnez Mo and Marc Blucas also star, and there are 3 episodes available now, with 5 more to come. And this series gets a smashing 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Sherin Nicole of RogerEbert.com says season 4 “might be the best yet,” adding “it all comes down to whether you like twisty action-thrillers that are cold-blooded with warm hearts, and high on charm. If so, pop the corn, pour the beverages, and dodge the blood splatter.” You decide. Amazon also offers The Theft of the Caravaggio, a 2026 drama. Based on a true story, this tells of the story of the theft of a famed Caravaggio painting from St. John’s Cathedral, in Valletta, Malta. When local police investigate, along with a detective from Washington, they find the sole caretaker, Orpheus (Paul Kissaun), of great interest. At first as a source for information, but then, as a prime suspect. Robert Grose, Tiana Formosa, and Elektra Anastasi also star, and Joshua Cassar Gaspar directs. and though this movie gets but a 5.2/10 on IMDb, it was nominated for several awards in 2025, including Best Feature Film at the Wyoming International Film Festival ,and the Mediterrane Film Festival. And Louisa Moore of screenzealots.com said it’s “haunting visual style, immersive sense of place, and emotionally driven mystery create an atmosphere that makes “The Theft of the Caravaggio” feel different than similar stories,” adding “a thoughtful, distinctly Maltese take on a remarkable true story, proving that sometimes the emotional search for what has been lost can be just as compelling as the mystery itself.” And I’m definitely watching- a trip to Malta is just what I need right now. And, finally, Amazon has added The Severed Sun, a 2024 British horror flick. This takes place in a puritanical community, where Magpie(Emma Appleton) kills her abusive husband. But when she lies, and says it was an accident, few support her, except David (Lewis Gribben), and her kids. Her father The Pastor (Toby Stephens) tries to protect her, but also warns of an evil that has begun stalking the hamlet, with glowing eyes. And as Magpie tries to protect herself, and the other women she sees as targets of the misogynistic group, the other villagers grow suspicious of her, led in part, by her father’s ominous sermons. Lewis Gribben. Jodhi May, and Barney Harris also star, while Dean Puckett directed. And this movie gets a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Bobby LePire of Film Threat called it “a handsomely produced, eerily directed film. The cast shines from the beginning to the end, with each actor delivering a natural, believable performance.” So you know it’s too scary for me.
