Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has a great add this week with The Christophers, a 2025 comedy/drama. This tells of British painter Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen!)past his prime, and lacking the inspiration he once felt for his work. So his estranged kids, worried about their inheritance, call in Lori Butler(Michaela Coel!) to work as his assistant, and perhaps, forge a new collection of paintings in his series, The Christophers. But things don’t turn out as his children planned, for the two become friends, and come up with some plans of their own. James Corden, Jessica Gunning, and Daniel Fearn also star, while Steven Soderbergh directed. And this movie gets an astounding 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Nikki Gemmell of The Australian called it “a fascinating study of power and productivity, masters and muses.” And I’m tuning in. Hulu has also added Elevation, a 2024 sci-fi action drama. This takes place three years after predators named Reapers emerged from sinkholes, leaving most of the earth unsafe for humans. So Will(Anthony Mackie!) and his son Hunter(Danny Boyd Jr.) find refuge in Colorado, with other refugees fleeing the monsters. But Hunter suffers from lung problems, and running low on oxygen, Will is forced to venture down to Boulder, to get more filters. He is joined on the perilous journey by friends Katie and Nina, to get filters, and to go to Nina’s lab, in the hope of finding away to killed the Reapers. But their trek is fraught with danger, as the creatures hungrily await their return . Morena Baccarin, Maddie Hasson and Rachel Nicks also star, and George Nolfi directed. And this movie gets a Rotten Tomatoes, and Zachary Lee of RogerEbert.com said “expedited world-building, dynamic action scenes, and just enough real-world thematic relevance to ground otherwise thinly written characters.” You decide. Hulu also offers The Wizard of the Kremlin, a 2025 political drama. This tells of the unsavory rise of ex-KGB agent, now president, Vladimir Putin(Jude Law!), in post Soviet Russia. But he gets help from Vadim Baranov (Paul Dano), a spin doctor, who manages to turn Putin into a political star, using deception and violence to seal his image as a strongman. As Baranov tells his story to journalist Lawrence Rowland (Jeffrey Wright!), he details his own rise, and that of Putin, in the new Russia, as Baranov abandoned idealism, and instead, reached for power. Alicia Vikander, Tom Sturridge, and George Sogis also star, and Olivier Assayas(!) directed. And this movie gets a 44% on Rotten Tomatoes, but David Sims of
The Atlantic said “Jude Law plays Putin in an extraordinary performance; wearing a near-permanent grimace and barely ever raising his voice, he’s a nonetheless transfixing screen presence.” So I’m watching. And finally, Hulu has Aan Paavam Pollathathu, a 2025 Hindi comedy. Here, newlyweds Sakthi(Malavika Manoj) and Siva(Rio Raj) started out deliriously happy, despite being polar opposites. As Siva tries to abide with Skathi’s independent ways, while she tries to tolerate his long hours at work. But a year later, Siva files for divorce, though his lawyer Narayanan (RJ Vigneshkanth) insists he hasn’t any real grounds. And as the legal proceedings continue, their friends and family begin to wonder if there’s any hope for the marriage left. Raja Rani Pandiyan, Sheela Rajkumar and A. Venkatesh also star, and Kalaiarasan Thangavel directs. And this movie gets a 7/10 on IMDb, and Akshay Kumar of Cinema Express said “Rio and Malavika have struck gold in the portrayals of their respective roles. These characters are going to stay with us for a long time.” So I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix has few big titles added this week, but they do have Blood Sacrifice, a 2026 Swedish crime drama series. Here, after two bloody murders of police officers one Friday night in Stockholm, Sweden, detective Thomas Berg (Jakob Oftebro) is put in charge of the investigation. But, as he and detective Natalie Eklund(Electra Hallman) search for clues, another two officers are horrifically killed exactly a week later. So the hunt is on, as Berg gets help from his ex-cop father, Alfred (Peter Andersson). racing to find the killer before the next Friday brings more murders. Alexander Abdallah, Lisette T. Pagler and Henrik Norlén also star, and there are 4 episodes available now. And this series gets a healthy 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and Aramide Tinubu of Variety says “intense, bloody and thought-provoking, the show is much more than a standard murder mystery.” So I’m watching. Netflix also offers Here The Whole Time, a 2026 Brazilian romcom. Here, teen Felipe(Miguel Lallo), stays marooned in his room on vacation, unable to visit the pool, as he’s self-conscious about his body, after years of bullying. But then Caio(Diego Lira) comes to visit, at the request of Felipe‘s mom, Rita, and everything changes. And as they become friends, the openly gay Felipe realizes even the seemingly confident Caio has insecurities of his own, as he is reluctant to come out of the closet, himself. Débora Falabella, Olivia Araújo and Bel Moreira also star, while Daniel Lieff directs. And this movie gets an exceptional 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Belen Prieto of Espinof says it “has all the ingredients to find its audience among those who enjoy teen romances, because yes, it’s about falling in love, but above all, it’s about letting yourself be seen when you’ve spent too long trying to disappear.” And I’m watching. Netflix has also added Sunshine Women’s Choir, a 2025 Taiwanese drama. This takes place in a women’s prison, where Hui-zhen (Ivy Chen) is serving time, after killing her abusive husband. When she gives birth to her daughter Yun-shi in prison, she is allowed to keep her for three years, helped in raising her by her cellmates, and friends she has made there. Friends like Yu-ying, a former singer helps out, as do Pei-ying and Xiu-lan. But then Yun-shi develops an eye problem that cannot be treated within the prison walls. And so Hui-zhen and her friends devise a choir and show to perform for Yun-shi to remember forever. Ivy Chen, Judy Ongg, and Hsin-Ling Chung also star, and Gavin Lin directs. And this movie, the highest-grossing local film in Taiwan history, and nominated for three awards at the Taipei Film Festival, gets a sparkling 7.2/10 on IMDb, and Marcus Thorne of Gazettely said it “moves through comedy, prison drama, musical uplift, and tear-streaked melodrama with confidence, sometimes with grace, sometimes with the subtlety of a cymbal dropped down a stairwell. Yet its sincerity has force. Beneath the contrivance sits a film deeply committed to the idea that song can hold a person in memory after systems, families, and time have tried to erase her..” So I’m tuning in. Netflix also offers season 1 of The Audacity, the 2026 AMC drama series. This series revolves around tech magnate Duncan Park(Billy Magnussen!) who relies heavily on his therapist JoAnne Felder (Sarah Goldberg). But as his company Hypergnosis hits the skids, he decides to blackmail Felder(who has secrets of her own), in order to the get dirt on his competitors, who are also her clients. But Park may have bitten off more than he can chew when he comes up against tech billionaire Carl Bardolph(Zach Galifianakis), who fights as dirty as anyone in Silicon Valley. Lucy Punch, Ava Telek, Rob Corddry and Paul Adelstein also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Randy Myers of the San Jose Mercury News calls it ” a stinging portrait of an industry under siege by its own pioneers’ grand visions of who they are.” And I’m watching. And, finally, Netflix has added S&X, a 2026 Japanese drama series. This tells of sex therapist Ichito Shimotori(Kento Nakajima), who tries to help his patients, in a culture where people are still reticent to talk about sex. But as Shimotori tries to help his clients with various problems, he also deals with his own trauma, that he hides from almost everyone. Until his first love Yumi Ichinose (Yuko Araki), reenters his life, and finds he may finally be forced to come to term with his own problems. Ryota Miura, Sawako Fujima, Aoi Nakamura, and Rinka Kuma also star, and there are 7 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a whopping 8.3/10 on IMDb, and Archi Sengupta of LeisureByte.com says it “turns an unusual premise into a thoughtful exploration of relationships, vulnerability and human connection, with Kento Nakajima delivering a nuanced performance.” So I’m tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon has a huge add this week with Is God Is, the 2026 drama. This find follows twin sisters Racine (Kara Young) and Anaia (Mallori Johnson), closely bonded by love and trauma, who find their mother Ruby (Vivica A. Fox) is alive. Having survived the fire their father set when the girls were three, that scarred them all, Ruby tells the sisters she has one dying wish- for Racine and Anaia to kill their abusive father, Man(Sterling K. Brown). But while Racine is convinced of their mission when she sees the extent of her mother’s wounds, Anaia is more troubled about killing anyone. And they finally find Man, living with another family and a wife he also abuses, the two are confronted with the violent man who had changed their lives, and the choice they knew they would have to make. Erika Alexander, Janelle Monáe, and Mykelti Williamson also star, and Aleshea Harris directs, along with writing the script. And this movie gets a stunning 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Nadira Goffe of Slate called it “a tour de force that perfectly blends Afro-Surrealism, humor, and gritty drama.” So I’m definitely tuning in. Amazon has also added Good Fortune, the 2025 comedy. Keanu Reeves(!) stars here, as Gabriel, an inexperienced angel, who decides to break the rules, and switch the lives of Arj(Aziz Ansari!) a gig worker living in his car, with that of venture capitalist, Jeff (Seth Rogen) to show Arj that wealth isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. But instead, Arj is delighted with his newfound wealth, and won’t switch back with Jeff, now delivering food for a living. And while Gabriel is trying to solve that problem he gets demoted to living as a human by his boss, Martha (Sandra Oh!), not sure he can ever return to his previous status. Keke Palmer(!),Blanca Araceli, and Aditya Geddada also star, while Aziz Ansari directs. And this movie gets a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Bob Mondello of NPR said “with Reeves‘ guileless angel as his secret weapon, Ansari’s made the film a fun hang.” And, finally, Amazon has added The Forbidden City, a 2025 Italian action drama. This finds big sister Mei(Yaxi Liu) travelling to Rome, in serach of her sister, Yun, a victimof sex trafficking. In her search, she runs into Marcello (Enrico Borello), a chef, who befriends her, and guides Mei through the seedier side of Rome. And Mei encounters plenty of trouble and lots of martial arts chaos, on her journey to find her sister. Luca Zingaretti, Shanshan Chunyu and Sabrina Ferilli also star, and Gabriele Mainetti directs. And this movie gets an impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Sankeerthna Vedamtam of MovieJawn called it “a film worth seeing again and again.” And I agree, so I’m definitely tuning in.
