Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
In a week of very few adds, Hulu offers season 2 of Adults, the 2026 FX comedy series. Season two finds the whole gang still hanging out in apartment of Samir’s (Malik Elassal) parents. But they find themselves dealing with more grown-up problems, like underemployment, and aging. While Issa (Amita Rao) decides to freeze her eggs, with ensuing comical attempts with Samir at fertility shots, Billie (Lucy Freyer) finds herself without a job, after getting fired. But, luckily, no one’s taking any of this adulting news too seriously. Jack Innanen, Owen Thiele, and Rachel Marsh also star, and there are 8 season 2 episodes available for streaming now, for a total of 17 episodes in all. And season 2 gets a slamming 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Nandini Balial of RogerEbert.com says the series “grows up just enough to become one of TV’s best sitcoms in season 2” adding it has “multipurpose humor; it makes you laugh, but also tells you something about these characters.” So I’m tuning in. Hulu also offers Greedy People, a 2024 crime comedy. This finds rookie Will (Himesh Patel) partnered with the cynical veteran cop Terry(Joseph Gordon-Levitt!), whose sole piece of advice is don’t kill anybody.” So, of course, while, Terry is illicitly affairs with a married woman, while working, Will is forced to enter a house, alone, to stop a robbery. As things spiral out of control, Terry tries to help Will cover up the evidence of his wrongdoing, and while doing so, they find a pile of money. And as greed over powers them, things grow more and more chaotic, especially when the owners want their moneyback. Lily James(!), Uzo Aduba(!), Traci Lord and Tim Blake Nelson(!) also star, and Potsy Ponciroli directed. And this movie gets a 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle said “what we’re left with is a movie that has good moments for all the actors, but which, through a series of tonal imprecisions, ends up seeming sour and pointless.” And I won’t be watching, despite the stellar cast. Hulu has also added Desert Warrior, a 2024 action adventure movie. This takes during the 7th century Sassanid Empire, with Arabian Princess Hind (Aiysha Hart), refuses to be sent to serve as a mere concubine for Emperor Kisra (Ben Kingsley!). But she and her father have few protectors, and then an unnamed bandit (Anthony Mackie!) captures them. But he soon he finds himself helping them, and after the Princess’s father is killed, Hind becomes Queen, and she decides upon a war against Kisra, Now all they need to do is unite the warring factions that inhabit Arabia, to fight the sinister king. Sami Bouajila, Sharlto Copley, and Ghassan Massoud also star, while Rupert Wyatt directed. But this movie gets a dismal 26% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Monica Castillo of the AV Club says it’s ” basic appeal––that of rebels rising up against evil empires––still works to some extent, but Desert Warrior does little to make it memorable beyond its historic production.” And, finally, Hulu has added Subham, a 2025 Telugu horror comedy. This takes place in the early 2000‘s, in the small coastal town of Bheemili, where newlyweds Srinu (Harshith Reddy), and Sri Valli (Shriya Kontham) reside. But soon after their marriage, Srinu notices a strange change in Sri Valli’s behavior, immediately after she watches her soap. And as she continues to watch, she grows more and more sinister, and so Srinu grows concerned. And when he goes to turn off the tv, it provokes a violent and supernatural response from his wife, who grabs him and throws him across the room. As other husbands in town notice the same behavior, they try to formulate a plan to stop the series from airing. But can they survive the supernatural wrath that will follow? Gavireddy Srinivas, Charan Peri,Shravani Lakshmi, Shalini Kondepudi, and Vamshidhar Goud. also star, and Praveen Kandregula directed. And this movie gets a 7/10 on IMDb, and Sangeetha Devi Dundoo of the Hindu calls it “a hilarious genre bender,” adding “on the surface, it is a spooky comedy, but at heart, it is a sharp commentary on gender sensitivity — made all the more effective by smart writing and charming performances.” And I’m so tuning in.
NETFLIX
Netflix has a big title added with The Whisper Man, a 2026 thriller. Based on a novel by Alex North, this finds retired police detective Peter Willis(Robert DeNiro!),, suddenly called back into the life of his estranged son Tom Kennedy (Adam Scott!). But Tom doesn’t want a reunion per se, he wants Peter’s help to find his kidnapped son, Jake. And the MO in Jake‘s case seems remarkably like that of the Whisper Man, a serial killer that Willis caught years ago, still imprisoned. So Tom thinks his father may be the only one who can unravel the clues, and find Jake, alive. Michelle Monaghan, Acston Luca Porto, Hamish Linklater(!) and Michael Keaton(!) also star, while James Ashcroft directs. And s movie gets a respectable 6.3/10 on IMDb, but a 43% on Rotten Tomatoes. And Nick Schager of the The Daily Beast calls it a “grab bag of genre devices barely held together by its competent headliners and ominous mood, it’s a passable affair only because it seems fated, from the start, to end up somewhere silly.” So you decide. Luckily, Netflix also offers Mousetrap, a 2026 K-drama crime thriller series. This tells of a reclusive author, Je Moon-jae (Ryu Jun-yeol) isolated in his luxury apartment, suffering from panic disorder and anxiety. But when his identity is suddenly stolen, and his apartment sold out from under him, he has to leave the security of his home, and venture outside, to find answers. And when a loan shark, No-ja (Su lKyung-gu), comes after him with a baseball bat, wanting his debts repaid, the pair instead end up working together, to find the person who stole Moon-jae‘s identity. Lee Kyu-hyung, Moon Jong-il and Go Hyung-woo also star, and there are 10 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a 6.5/10 on IMDb, and Shannon Connellan of Mashable says “Mousetrap‘ will ensnare you.” So I’m definitely tuning in. Netflix has also added Call Me Mother, a 2025 Filipino dramedy. Here, Twinkle Reyes(Vice Ganda), a queer beauty pageant coach who endeavors to raise an adopted boy, Angelo, after her own mother died. But years later, Mara de Jesus(Nadine Lustre), the birth mother of Agnelo(Lucas Andalio), shows up, and Twinkle‘s adoption plans are threatened. And even after Mara gives her permission for the adoption, in return for Twinkle’s coaching Mara for a beauty contest, Twinkle still fears Mara’s reentry into Angelo‘s life and affections. Iyah Mina, Klarisse de Guzman and also star, and directed. And this movie was nominated for 11 awards at the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival. and went on to win 3, including Best Child Performer for Lucas Andalio, and Best Actor for Vice Ganda. And it gets a sparkling 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Anjali Sharma of the Midgard Times calls it a “surprisingly tender story about what makes a parent.” So I’m watching. Netflix also offers Newton’s 3rd Law, a 2026 Indian thriller. This takes place in murder in 1999 Hyderabad, with police detective Vasu Dev (Sumanth) called in to investigate the murder of a young man. But then another murder occurs, and Dev is convinced the two are related. And they seem to be tied to the notorious smuggler, Stephen Mercury (Jagapathi Babu). Avasarala Srinivas, Neha Pathan, and Pandit Goutham also star, and Rajesh Karna directs. And this movie gets a smashing 8.3/10 on IMDb, and Srivasthan Nadahur of the Hindu says “the narrative is a smart fusion of good old tricks and modern-day upgrades.” And I’m tuning in. And, finally, Netflix has added The Early Spring, a 2026 Chinese romantic drama series. Here, Shang Zhitao (Sun Qian), is shocked to be hired at a prestigious advertising agency, though she’s fresh out of college. And executive Luan Nian (Jing Boran) doesn’t make it any easier on her, telling her she won’t last long. But, Shang slowly learns the ropes and her dedication to her job wins some approval from Luan. And six years later, when Shang moves back to her hometown, and opens a restaurant, the two meet again, and wonder what might have been. Liu Xiaobei, Qi Tianqing, Zhang Yezi and Ning Xin also star, and there are 10 episodes available to binge on now, with one more to come. And this series gets an astounding 8.5/10 on IMDb, and Adriana Domingos of Papo de Dorama says “thrives on Jing Boran and Sun Qian’s chemistry,” So I’m watching.
AMAZON
Amazon has added The Last Sunrise, a 2026 romance. Based on the 2025 novel of the same name by Anna Todd, this tells the story of college student Oriah, or Ry, (Maia Reficco), on vacation with her realtor mom, Isolde, (Eva Longoria!) in Mallorca. But Ry isn’t too enthused, as she is beset by a chronic health condition, and her meds are making her miserable. But when she ventures out on the beach, she meets Julián (Fernando Lindez), who brightens her day considerably. But as Ry gets involved with Julián, she forgoes her medication, and her health declines. Add to that, the fact that Julián’s family is blocking the real estate deal pushed by Isolde, and there looks to be no hope for the couple. Chloé Sweetlove, Andrés Velencoso and Stefanie Martini also star, while Carlson Young directs. And though this movie gets only a 5.6/10 on IMDb, Brandon Yu of the New York Times says “most of the beats that play out the rest of the way are predictable. But this movie, directed by Carlson Young and based on the novel from Anna Todd, isn’t one you come to for originality.” You decide. Amazon has also added Stolen Girl, a 2025 thriller. This finds Maureen, or Mara, Dabbagh ( Kate Beckinsale) thrown into shock when her ex-husband Karim, abducts their daughter, Amina, and headed for his native Syria. But even going to Washington, D.C. reaps no positive results, so when an expert in child recovery, Mitch Robeson(Scott Eastwood) contacts her, she reluctantly accepts. But as they go in search of Amina, Mara learns that Robeson has motives of his own, and wonders if she can trust him at all. Jordan Duvigneau, Matt Craven, Alejandra Howard and Arvin Kananian also star, and James Kent directs. But this movie gets only a 5.4/10 on IMDb, and Sarah Vincent
of Sarah G Vincent Views said watching it “is time that I will never get back. It is not the worst movie because then it would at least be fun to skewer. It is just sad because Beckinsale deserves better.” So probably not for me. And, finally, Amazon offers Dinner Mate, a 2020 K-drama romance series. Here, when media producer Woo Do-hee (Seo Ji-hye), goes to see her boyfriend Lee Young Dong (Kim Jung Hyun), on Jeju Island, she is hoping for a proposal. So when she instead cathces him canoodling with another woman, she is beside herself. And then she meets psychiatrist, Kim Hae Kyung (Seung Hun Song), who tries to save her from suicide, when she wasn;t suicidal at all. But they do both love good restaurants, so they make a deal to be dinner mates, back in Seoul, and agree to meet regularly. And when Do-hee decides to do a series on Hae Kyung, and psychiatry in general, their lives become even more entwined. Kim Hae-kyung, Lee Ji-hoon, Ko Kyul Pil and Son Na-eun also star, and there are 16 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a rousing 7.4/10 on IMDb, and Kdramalove said although its “a lovely light romantic comedy (and I giggled quite a few times at some very amusing scenes), it does have its deeper themes of revenge and unhappiness and loneliness, and how to recover from those lifestyle choices and situations.” And I’m tuning in.
