Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has one big add this week, with season 2 of Chad Powers, the 2026 sports comedy series. This season finds Russ Holliday(Glen Powell!) continuing his charade as Chad Powers, hoping to reignite his football career. But assistant coach Ricky Hudson(Perry Mattfeld) is on his deceit, as does his friend Danny (Frankie A. Rodriguez). And while the pair reluctantly play along with Russ, can he keep backup QB Gerry (Colton Ryan) from tumbling to the truth, and ruining Chad‘s chances of a new career? Toby Huss, Quentin Plair and Steve Zahn(!) also star, and there are 7 episodes available now. And season 2 gets a shocking 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Cristina Escobar of RogerEbert.com says “no, it doesn’t make any sense. But rehabilitating a selfish failure who’s finally ready to change feels so good.” Hulu also offers The Man with the Answers, a 2021 romantic drama. Here, Victor (Vasilis Magouliotis), an ex-diving champion, finds himself bereft after the death of his sick grandmother. So he decides on a road trip to Germany, where his estranged mother lives. But when he picks up Matthias(Anton Weil),a hitchhiker on his way home from Germany, Victor’s life changes forever. For, as the two talk, Matthias challenges Victor’s way of thinking, with a more carefree attitude, and a reckless abandon toward life. And as the two wend their way to Germany, both are changed, and they grow closer than they ever dreamed. Stella Fyrogeni, Marc Pistono and Michele Valley also star, and Stelios Kammitsis directed. And this movie was nominated for multiple awards in 2021, and went on to win Best Screenplay for Stelios Kammitsis, at the KASHISH Pride Film Festival. And it gets an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, and James Mottram of the South China Morning Post said “Kammitsis crafts a believable narrative with two characters you’ll want to follow to the end of the road.” So I’m tuning in. Hulu has also added Signal One, a 2026 sci-fi drama. This finds astronomer Annika Kask (Isabelle Fuhrman) accepting a job from billionaire Sam Houston(Dennis Quaid), believing she is to work on finding dark matter. But, she instead finds herself working with Perry Glassner(David Thewlis) and Charlie Kaminsky (Josh Hutcherson), searching for a way to communicate with aliens. And while Houston is ecstatic about the prospect, and the fame it would bring him, Annika is concerned about the very real danger success could bring. Kiera Allen, Stephen Adekolu and Raoul Bhaneja also star, and Jonathan Sobol directs. And this movie gets an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Matt Zoller Seitz of RogerEbert.com said “it is a fantasy, but it’s more confrontational than escapist. It doesn’t want us to turn our brains off. It wants us to think.” And, finally Hulu has added Gutierrez is Mai Neim, a 2026 Argentine comedy series from Disney+. This takes place after the assassination of the Russian Ambassador, when Deputy Commissioner Gutierrez(Darío Barassi) is called in on the case. But when the CIA is asked to take over, Gutierrez and his hapless team become intent on solving the case first, no matter what chaos it might bring. Juliana Savioli, Yayo Guridi and Lucas Molina also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets an impressive 7.2/10 on IMDb, and Diego Lerer of Micropsia calls it “an easygoing, likable series, the kind that’s easy to binge (its eight episodes all run under half an hour) and even easier to enjoy.”
NETFLIX
Netflix has an incredible add this week withThe President’s Cake, a 2025 Iraqi drama. This takes place in 1990‘s Iraq, where 9-year-old Lamia(Baneen Ahmad Nayyef) lives with her grandmother Bibi. But when Lamia is told by her teacher to bake a cake for the birthday of President Saddam Hussein, she has a serious task at hand. For she lives in poverty, and sanctions have crippled supply chains in the country. So Lamia sets off with her best friend, Saeed (Sajad Mohamad Qasem) to procure the now precious ingredients for the cake, stopping at nothing to achieve their goal. Rahim AlHaj, Waheed Thabet Khreibat, and Muthanna Malaghi, also star, while Hasan Hadi directs. And this movie won multiple awards in 2025, including Best Picture at the Athens International Film Festival, and the Directors’ Fortnight Audience Award and the Golden Camera at the Cannes Film Festival. And it gets a stunning 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Wendy Ide of the Observer called it “an impressive first feature from the writer-director Hasan Hadi, a sharply observed, bittersweet, child’s-eye odyssey that avoids cute-kid cliches.” And I’m so tuning in. Netflix also offers The Secret Woman, a 2026 Danish psychological thriller. This begins with Louise (Mia Jexen) living a seemingly idyllic life in Norway, with a cafe and a fiancé, Joachim (Pål Sverre Hagen), who adores her. But when she meets a man who insists she’s Helene, who simply won’t go away, she knows her past has caught up with her. But Louise doesn’t remember that past, as she’s suffered from amnesia, ever since she was found unconscious, two years ago. When it turns out Louise has a husband and child, she goes to stay with them, while Joachim smells a rat, and tries to alert Louise to the truth. But will she listen? Claes Bang, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, and also star, while Barbara Topsøe-Rothenborg directs. And this movie gets a 6.1/10 on IMDb, and Susan Granger of the SSG Syndicate called it an “Intriguing, suspenseful Danish psychological thriller....” So I’m watching. Netflix has also added Lovesick, a 2026 Mexican historical drama series. This takes place in Puebla, Mexico, in 1910, during the Mexican revolution. And Emilia Sauri (Renata Vaca), who works in her father’s apothecary, wants to be a doctor, not a housewife. And while Mexican society did not appreciate women doctors in 1910, the revolution offers Emilia chances to learn her trade, she might not otherwise get. And, while she is torn between loves Daniel Cuenca (Juan Pablo Fuentes) and Antonio Zavalza (Juan Amozurrutia), Emilia is determined to put her career first. Sofia Carrera, Cassandra Ciangherott and Miguel Rodarte also star, and there are 7 episodes available for streaming now. And this movie gets a 6.5/10 on IMDb, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, adding it “does a good job of balancing its steamier aspects with a compelling story of a woman who wants agency over her life in a world that’s about to radically change.” So I’m tuning in. Netflix also offers Irena’s Vow, a 2023 Polish historical drama. Based on a true story, this takes place during World War II, with occupied Poland under the Nazi power. And when nurse Irena Gut Opdyke(Sophie Nélisse), finds herself forced to work as a housekeeper for Nazi Major Rugemer (Dougray Scott). But while working for the vain man, interested only in throwing parties, Irena learns of a Jewish ghetto nearby, due to be ‘liquidated.’ And so she hatches a plan to hide the men and women in the Rugemer‘s villa, right under his nose. Andrzej Seweryn, Eliza Rycembel and Agata Turkot also star, and Louise Archambault directed. And this movie won several awards in 2023 & 2024, including Feature Film Award at the 2024 Writers Guild of Canada, and the Panorama Award at the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival. And it gets an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Christy Lemire of RogerEbert.com said “[t]his is such a worthwhile story that we can’t look away, and Nélisse is so engaging that we don’t want to.” And I’m definitely tuning in. And, finally, Netflix has added Four Hands, Two Sonatas, a 2026 K-drama series. This follows three students, Kang Pi-o(Song Kang), Choi Jeong-yo(Lee Jun-young), and Hong Jae-in(Jang Gyu-ri), at the Korea Arts High School, as they deal with the pressures of the competition there. And, though Pi-o and Jeong-yo are great friends, they are also both talented pianists, and forced to compete against one another, at school. And while Jae-in tries to root for both players, she also faces her own struggle to achieve greatness as a violist. But will all the pressure of competition drive the friends apart? Yoon Se-a, Kim Ju-hun, and Jung Jin-young also star, and there are 3 episodes available now, with 9 more to come. And this series gets a whopping 8.8/10 on IMDb, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, adding it “takes the romantic K-drama formula in a new direction, with a lot of good music to listen to as the friendship between the show’s main character develops.” So I’m watching.
AMAZON
The big title added on Amazon this week is The Runner, a 2026 thriller. The story, here, revolves around Maia Marten (Gal Gadot), a London prosecutor trying against crime boss, Tommy Boyd. But on the eve of the trial, saying her diabetic son, Noah, has been kidnapped. And if she wants to save him, she will have to set off on the run of her life, trying to fulfill the kidnappers instructions, while ferreting out who is behind the abduction, at the same time. Damian Lewis(!), Rory Wilmot, Alfred Enoch, and Phoenix Di Sebastiani also star, while directs. But this movie gets a dismal 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Peter Travers of The Travers Take says “In this dumb-as-dirt kidnap drama, Gal Gadot huffs and puffs, trying to outrun an idiot plot that goes nowhere in 84 minutes.” So definitely not for me. Luckily, Amazon also offers A Guide to Dating at the End of the World, a 2023 scifi romcom from New Zealand. Here, when her friends set the resolutely single Alex(Kerith Atkinson) up with John (Tony Brockman), the date quickly goes south. And when Alex tells John she wouldn’t go out with him “if he were the last man in the world,” she never meant it literally. But when Alex wakes up the next morning, to a world empty of all humans, except, it turns out, John, she finds herself forced to reconsider the value of his company. Jacki Mison, Sarah Kennedy and Christopher Sommers also star, while Samuel Gay directed. And though this movie gets but a 5.3/10 on IMDb, FilmInk called it “an endearing, low-key joy.” So I’m watching. And, finally, Amazon has added Mr. Burton, a 2025 British biographical drama.This yells the story of young Richie Jenkins(Harry Lawtey), who goes on to become famed actor Richard Burton, and his teacher, Philip Burton(Toby Jones!), whose great influence shaped the young man. As Richie misbehaved in school, Mr. Burton forces him to memorize the entire prologue of Shakespeare‘s Henry V, but instead of loathing his punishment, Richie loves it, and set his sights on becoming an actor. And as Richie’s miner father balks at his intentions, Mr. Burton steps in, to offer support and guidance, becoming a critical reason for the actor’s ultimate success. Lesley Manville(!), Steffan Rhodri and Aimée-Ffion Edwards also star , and directed. And this movie gets an amazing 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Tara Brady of the Irish Times said “Marc Evans’s film is a lovely thing...[Toby] Jones and [Leslie] Manville are predictably excellent.” And I’m tuning in.
