Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has very few adds this week, but they do have Hypnotic, the 2023 thriller starring Ben Affleck. This finds Detective Daniel Rourke (Affleck) still traumatized by the kidnapping of his daughter years ago, but still working. As his attention is drawn to a shadowy character(William Fichtner), whose mere voice seems to mesmerize standers by into committing a bank robbery. When Rourke beats them to the bank, he finds a photo of his daughter in a safety deposit box there. When he consults psychic Diana Cruz (Alice Braga!) she tells him of so called’ hypnotics’ who can control the thoughts of others. And when attempts are made on Rourke’s life, he and Diana flee to Mexico. But can they escape the ‘hypnotics’ there? JD Pardo, Dayo Okeniyi, and Jeff Fahey also star, while Robert Rodriguez directs. And while this movie gets only a 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, Glenn Kenny of the New York Times said it “is, if nothing else, ruthlessly efficient enough in delivering its crowd-pleasing bits that truly starving suspense genre hounds, at least, won’t necessarily mind.” You decide. Luckily, Hulu also offers 100 Nights of Hero, a 2025 romantic fantasy. Here, the marriage of prince Jerome (Amir El- Masry) and bride Cherry (Maika Monroe) is a boring one, with the prince uninterested in consummating the marriage with his wife. He even convinces a friend to try to seduce Cherry, and produce the heir he requires. Luckily, Cherry has her companion and confidant Hero (Emma Corrin), to protect her, and spin tales of fantasy for Cherry, to help them escape to another world. Charli XCX, Richard E. Grant(!), and Felicity Jones(!) also star, and Julia Jackman directed. And this movie gets a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Tim Cogshell of FilmWeek said “all these little stories are so sharp, and they’re all about women’s empowerment, the power of women and the power of storytelling.” So I’m watching. Hulu has also added City of Blood, a 2026 German post-apocalyptic series. This takes place in a futuristic Berlin, shattered by pandemic and climate change, where the rich live in a protected dome, while the rest fight for their lives in the crime ridden streets. And when the rich Bea(Soma Pysall) and poverty stricken Phoebe Lea Drinda(Bea Hoffmann), sisters separated at birth, finally meet again, they both find themselves fighting for the same side. But the city has more to content with, as unexplained deaths rise in the city, and the cause seems to be vampires. Franz Hartwig, David Schütter, and Lars Eidinger also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. And though this series gets a measly 4.4/10 on IMDb, it does gets some fair reviews, like that of Belen Prieto of Espinof, who calls it “a great and quite enigmatic series, but its slow pace means it doesn’t quite come together when it comes to finding the balance between all the stories it wants to tell. ” And the pickings are thin this week on Hulu, so it’s on my list. And, finally, Hulu has Kshetrapati (Kannada), a 2023 Indian drama. Here, after his father’s death by suicide, Basava((Naveen Shankar), an engineering student, quits college, and takes up farming his father’s land. As his father was overwhelmed by loans and debt, typical for the local farmers, Basava brings technology and scientific advances that aids his farm and those around him. But when he becomes a hero in among the agricultural community, a local politician (Rahul Ainapur), resents his power, and to bring him down. Harsh Arjun, Rahul Ainapur and Krishna Hebbale also star, and Shrikanth Katagai directed. And this movie gets an amazing 7.6/10 on IMDb, and Sridevi S of the Times of India says “director-writer Shrikanth Katagai makes an impressive debut with a relevant story.” So I’m tuning in.
NETFLIX
The big title on Netflix this week has to be Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, a 2026 crime drama series from Ryan Murphy. In yet another story of famed murderers from Murphy, this one tells of Lizzie Borden (Ella Beatty), a neurodivergent young woman neglected by her father, Andrew Borden (Charlie Hunnam!), while being abused by her stepmother, Abby Borden (Rebecca Hall!). Lizzie seems lost, until she meets and befriends Bridget Sullivan (Vicky Krieps!), the family’s new maid. And as the two women become closer and closer, they hatch an unfortunately violent plan for Lizzie‘s freedom. Evan Peters, Richard Jenkins and Sarah Paulson(!) also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. And though this Monster iteration gets only a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, Aramide Tinubu of Variety says “the fourth offering of this franchise, “The Lizzie Borden Story” offers something refreshing and wholly unique to the “Monster” canon.” You decide- you know it’s too gross for me. Luckily, Netflix also offers I’mPerfect, a 2025 Philippine romance. This movie follows Jiro(Earl Amaba) and Jessica(Krystel Go), two students with Down’s Syndrome, who meet and fall in love. But as the two plan a new life together, with marriage included, their parents team up, to fight their union. And so they run off together, to marry and live in the country. But as their families catch up with them, they struggle to stay together, no matter what. Sylvia Sanchez, Janice de Belen, Joey Marquez, Lorna Tolentino, Tonton Gutierrez, and Zaijian Jaranilla also star, while Sigrid Andrea Bernardo directs. And this movie was nominated for multiple awards in 2025, and went on to win Best Ensemble, Best Actress for Anne Krystel Daphne Go, and Best Feature Film at the Metro Manila Film Festival. And it gets a 6.8/10 on IMDb, and Mark Angelo Ching of PEP.ph calls it “a movie with a massive heart,” adding it’s a “a triumph because it is a brave, necessary step forward for representation.” So I’m watching. Netflix has also added Modha Rathri, a 2026 Tamil comedy/drama. This finds Marudhu(Rishikanth) called home, to find he is to be forced to marry Muthuselvi(Anishma Anilkumar). Neither of the pair want to marry, with traumatic pasts that still linger, and Muthuselvi in love with another man. And when their marriage bed is as yet unfinished on the night of their wedding, boding ill for the ceremony, the two take off. Leaving their families in chaos. Sangetha Balan, Banupriya and Chetan also star, while Raja Karupasammy directs. And this movie gets a whopping 8.1/10 on IMDb, and Subha J Rao of The News Minute says it “sparkles with wit and understanding.” And I’m definitely tuning in. Netflix also offers The Scandal, a 2026 K-drama historical miniseries. This takes place during the Joseon Dynasty, with Lady Cho(Son Ye-jin) is a bored noblewoman, stifled by the Confucian strictures of her times. So she enters into a wager with her cousin Cho Won(Ji Chang-wook), for him to seduce the widowed An Hui-yeon( Nana). But when Cho Won accepts, and then unintentionally falls in love with his intended victim, he upsets all of Lady Cho‘s plans, and sends her into a fury. Han Sun-hwa, Chani and Im Jin-ah also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And this series, based on the classic novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, gets a 6.3/10 on IMDb, and Archi Sengupta of Leisure Byte calls it “a tense and thrilling watch that tests the boundaries of the time.” So I’m watching. And, finally, Netflix has added Plastic Beauty, a 2026 Japanese thriller series. This finds Tokyo surgeon Fumi Numata (Mayu Matsuoka) in trouble, after she goes against the wishes of her patient. influencer Kana Kokobun (Hina Kagei), by removing her abscessed silicone breast implant, While enduring Kana‘s online and offline wrath, Fumi investigates the plastic surgeon responsible for the botched surgery, Rin Tohyama (Riisa Naka), known as the ‘Hand of God’ at her Tohyama Cosmetic Surgery Clinic. Determined to stop Rin, Fumi pleads with voice actor Yoshiko Tanaka (Hana Amano), who worked for Rin, and witnessed the plastic surgeon’s Botox parties. But Yoshiko refuses, and with her family deeply in debt, will Fumi accept Rin’s offer of a job at her notorious clinic? Shôtarô Mamiya, Hiromi Nagasaku and Mijika Nagai also star, and there are 8 episodes available for bingeing now. And this series gets a smashing 8.4/10 on IMDb, and Maddy Casale of The Decider says to stream it, adding it’s an “artfully shot, well-acted, and intentionally crafted Japanese series whose candid portrayal of the cosmetic surgery industry culminates in a compelling story that’s more than just skin deep. Embrace this emotional exploration of beauty, medicine, and humanity.” And I’m so tuning in.
AMAZON
Amazon has a huge add this week with Neagley, a 2026 crime drama series. This Reacher spinoff focuses on Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), a close friend of Reacher’s, now a PI in Chicago. And when a childhood friend Tommy Crane (Jhaleil Swaby), Neagley investigates, along with Detective Hudson “Rats” Riley (Greyston Holt), and Renee Birdwhistle (Adeline Rudolph). And that investigation leads them to Echo Canyon, a commune run by a cult led by Lawrence Cole (Damon Herriman), where Tommy spend his last days. Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro, Zion Hutson and Damon Herriman also star, and there are 8 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets an incredible 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Dominic Baez of the Seattle Times says “spinoffs can be hit-or-miss, but “Neagley” definitely hits its mark. It remembers that Neagley isn’t Reacher, no matter their similarities. It leans into “Reacher’s” strengths, but it’s not afraid to try a few new things.” So I’m tuning in.Amazon has also added You+Me – Against the World, a 2026 French YA romantic drama. This tells the story of Alma Lancaster(Vittoria Di Savoia), who tells her family she’s studying law, while she’s actually given herself a year to study at a film school. There, she meets the shadowy Vadim Arcadi(Lucas Barski), and is forced to work with him on a project. And as they grow closer, Alma hears rumors of Vadim’s drug dealing and other illicit ventures, and she struggles to find the truth. Zoé Garcia, Léo Legrand, Jean-Yves Berteloot, and Suliane Brahim also star, while Manon Gaurin directs. But this movie gets only a 4.7/10 on IMDb, and Archi Sengupta of Leisure Byte calls it “a dud. It’s fun for a forgettable one-time romp, but beyond that, there’s nothing that differentiates it from any of the 10-odd YA dramas we have watched this year.” So, I’m not watching. And, finally, Amazon has added A Love Other Than Yours, a K-drama romance series. This finds the relationship of Namgung Ho (Seo Kang-joon) and Lee Mi Do (Ahn Eun-jin), growing stagnant, after 10 years of dating. And while Mi-do dreams of being a filmmaker, she struggles to find work and respect for her dreams, Ho is successful beyond his dreams, which rankles with Mi-do. And as her mother and brothers pressure them to get married, and Ho prepares to propose, Mi-do announces she wants to break up. Lee Joo-ahn, Jo A-ram and Kim Mi-kyung also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And this series gets an exceptional 7.3/10 on IMDb, and Scott Clark of But Why Tho? says “finds its strongest material in the uncomfortable space between loving someone and no longer knowing how to live beside them.” But they do it with humor, too, so I’m tuning in.
