Yes, it’s that time again, the weekend, and time to review the best new movies and television shows added online this week, to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. And there are some exciting new adds this week, so let’s get started.
HULU
Hulu has an exceptional add this week with The Plague, a 2025 psychological drama. This takes place in the summer of 2003, with 12 year-old Ben (Everett Blunck) going to the Tom Lerner Water Polo Camp . But this is a camp, like most, with a strict hierarchy, where bullying thrives. And as Ben wants desperately to fit in, as the new kid in town, so when the other boys tells him Eli(Kenny Rasmussen) has ‘The Plague,‘ (really just a skin rash), he believes them. And when he socializes with Eli, he lets himself in for bullying on a massive scale. And he and Eli have no way out of the toxic environment. Joel Edgerton, Kayo Martin, and Kenny Rasmussen also star, while Charlie Polinger directed. And this movie won multiple awards in 2025, including Breakthrough Director Award for at the Denver Film Festival, and Best International Feature at the Calgary International Film Festival. And it gets a sparkling 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Nick Schager of The Daily Beast said “taut and entrancing, it’s a stark reminder that adolescence sucks.” And I’m watching. Hulu has also added Season 13 of American Horror Story, a 2026 horror series. This season, some favorites of the past return, like Cordelia Goode(Sarah Paulson!) most powerful living witch, who’s now mentoring Ophelia (Avantika), while being helped by Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts!). But Cordelia senses evil looming, and Constance Langdon (Jessica Lange!) is introduced, this time as the caregiver to an old man. And that sinister old man has been up to some very dirty (lethal) business, and where it will end, no one knows. Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Frances Conroy, and Jon Waters also star, and there are 3 episodes available now. And Season 13 gets a 7/10 on IMDb, and EJ Moreno calls it “history-making horror at its most fun, a killer good time and a bloody love letter to the greatest hits of a great show.” But I’ll be under the bed. Luckily, Hulu also offers Love in Sync, a 2026 K-drama romantic drama series. This finds Yoo Ji-an(Kang Minah), an actress and former girl group member, forced into therapy, after her insensitive behavior arouses waves of criticism. So she goes to Cha Eun-hwan(Kim Myungsoo) , a therapist, who finds her lack of empathy frustrating. But then, the two experience an “emotional transference,” which brings chaos and turmoil, but which may also bring awareness and healing. Kang Minah, Kwon Sohyun, Jeong Heetae, and Son Jina also star, and there are 8 episodes available now. And this series gets a respectable 6.4/10 on IMDb, and Nandini Iyengar of the Review Geek calls it “a charming romantic K-drama” So I’m tuning in. And, finally, Hulu has Bahut Hua Samman, a 2020 Hindi comedy caper. This finds Fundoo(Abhishek Chauhan) and Bony(Raghav Juyal), two engineering students, failing in school, and taking part in scams to get by. So when they meet Baba, at a party, and recommends they take part in a robbery on campus, they decide to get in on the action. But soon, they are implicated in major crime, the theft of the Kohinoor diamond, no less, and they have no alibi. And everyone wants that stone. Sanjay Mishra, Ram Kapoor, Nidhi Singh, Namit Das and Flora Saini also star, and Ashish R. Shukla directed. And this movie gets an amazing 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Archika Khurana of the Times of India calls it “an interesting cocktail of comedy and reality,,,[that] starts off as a goofy comedy but later turns into a conversation about the ongoing socio-economic and political situation of the country that is laced with humour.” So I’m watching.
NETFLIX
Netflix has a big title added this week with Unabomber, a 2026 crime drama. In yet another telling of American terrorist Ted Kaczynski‘s horrific deeds, we get two narratives. The first is of FBI Agent Joanne Miller (Shailene Woodley), who, in 1991 San Franscisco, works to find the Unabomber. The second strand here, tells, of Kaczynski(Jacob Tremblay!) , who during his college career, participates in a study by his psychology professor, Henry Murray (Russell Crowe),where he is, by all, tortured. And you know the rest. But bear in mind, this whole production is only ‘inspired by real events,’ the truth is murky, here. Annabelle Wallis, Alexander Ludwig and Tanya Clarke also star, while Janus Metz Pedersen directs. But this movie gets a measly 22% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Alison Foreman of IndieWire says “the question of this killer’s mental health remains a matter of clinical dispute and “Unabomber” misleads where the record does not.” I definitely won’t be watching. Luckily, Netflix also offers A Different World, a 2026 dramedy series. In this sequel to the 1990 series, this finds Deborah Wayne(Maleah Joi Moon), daughter of Whitley(Jasmine Guy!) and Dwayne(Kadeem Hardison!), showing up for her freshman year at Hillman College. And while Deborah is overconfident, she has difficulty mixing in with people like Rashida (Alijah Kai) and Hazel (Kennedi Reece), who come from less entitled backgrounds.. But somehow, they all end up dealing with the typical freshman problems their parents had, like pressures, study and finances. Still, they do manage to have fun, and find themselves opening up to a new world. Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, and Darryl M. Bell also star, while . And this series gets a healthy 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Kelly Lawler of USA Today says “reboot done right (finally!” adding “Its setting feels real and modern without resorting to shoehorning in 2026 buzzwords. The characters feel like kids you might meet at any college right now.” And I’m watching. Netflix has also added Stop! That! Train!, the 2026 comedy. This finds best friends, Tess (Ginger Minj) and DeeDee(Jujubee) delighted to find themselves working as stewardesses on the glitzy Glamazonian Express, after working on the Stank Express. But now they have to prove themselves all over again, especially to the new train attendants aboard the Glamazonian. Meanwhile, as train controller Donna Dusk (Rachel Bloom!) warns of a stormaggeddon set to hit the train, Tess and DeeDee have to pull it together with the other stewardesses, and President Judy Gagwell(RuPaul Charles!), to save the train, and the day!. Symone, Guy Branum and Marcia Marcia Marcia also star, while Adam Shankman directs. And this movie gets an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and Chris Wasser of the Irish Independent “scoff all you like, but this barmy big-screen farce tickles and engages better than most of the blockbusters we’ve endured this summer. Like all the cleverest spoofs, Stop! That! Train! takes its jokes very seriously indeed.” And I agree, so I’m tuning in. Netflix has also added The Final Problem, a 2026 Spanish mystery series. Based on the book by Arturo Pérez-Reverte(!), this tells the story of Benjamin Basil (Jose Coronado), a fading actor in 1959, known for playing Sherlock Holmes, heading to Mallorca to meet a producer friend, Fonseca (Gonzalo de Castro), about starring in a new movie. But when a storm hits Fonseca’s yacht, he and Basil are forced to take refuge at a small island hotel. And when a murder occurs among their number, with the Mallorca police delayed by the weather, Basil finds himself pressed by the other guests to act as their detective, being as he’s Sherlock Holmes. And the actor finds himself reluctantly accepting the role, until a new murder occurs. María Valverde, Maribel Verdú, Paloma Bloyd and Martiño Rivas also star, and there are 4 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets a solid 6.4/10 on IMDb, and Joel Keller of the Decider says to stream it, adding it’s a “a classic whodunnit, and that’s a good thing, thanks to a lavish setting and a fine lead performance from Coronado.” And I’m definitely watching. And, finally, Netflix has added Sai, a 2025 Japanese psychological thriller series. Also called Sai: Disaster, here, several troubled souls are suddenly confronted by an unknown man. And when deaths mount up, detective Domoto (Anne Nakamura) begins to investigate. But Domoto finds it more and more difficult to investigate, with her superiors convinced that no crime has been committed, at all. Teruyuki Kagawa, Pistol Takehara and Sena Nakajima also star, and and there are 6 episodes available now. And this series gets a 7.1/10 on IMDb, and Lida Bach of moviebreak.de says “silent, shadowy horror pervades the dense atmosphere of this subtle horror thriller, whose ghostly calm simultaneously unsettles and fascinates.” But you know it’s too scary for me.
AMAZON
Amazon has added The Love Hypothesis, the 2026 romcom. Based on the book by Ali Hazelwood, this finds grad student Olive Smith(Lili Reinhart) forced into forming a fake relationship with Dr. Adam Carlsen(Tom Bateman), nicknamed Dr. Evil, to get her friend Anh (Rachel Marsh) to start dating, herself. But then, of course, as the pair grapple with their charade, the odious Dr. Evil turns out to be a bit more human. But will Olive want to commit to a real relationship? Nicholas Duvernay, Jaboukie Young-White, and Jeananne Goossen also star, and Claire Scanlon directs. And this movie gets a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, but Chris Azzopardi of the New York Times says “as for the script, it needs no lab exam to know it fails at least one true test: to feel human.” And I won’t be watching. Still, if you need a romcom, you know where to find one. Amazon has also added Addition, a 2026 Australian romcom. This finds mathematician Grace Vandenburg (Teresa Palmer) living a well ordered life in Melbourne, with her OCD manifesting itself in a counting obsession. And when she meets Seamus (Joe Dempsie) at the grocery store, she is immediately drawn to him. But while she asks him out for a date, she also tries desperately to hide her counting obsession from him at all costs, even running away from him in a parking lot. But Grace’s insecurities about her condition could put an end to the happy story. Eamon Farren, Adrienne Pickering and Sarah Peirse also star, and Marcelle Lunam directs. And this movie was nominated for Best Foreign Comedy at the 2025 Golden Trailer Awards, and gets a 6/10 on IMDb, and Alison Foreman of Indiewire says “Teresa Palmer charms and challenges in essential mental health Rom-Com” And it’s funny too, so I’m tuning in. And, finally, Amazon has added Eat, Sleep, then Wait for Happiness, a 2025 Japanese drama series. Here, when Satoko Mugimaki(Yuki Sakurai) is diagnosed with a chronic illness, she’s forced to give up her full-time job, and move into a cheaper apartment in the country. But there, she meets landlady Suzu Miyama(Mariko Kaga), who dedicates herself to making the woman feel better. And Suzu’s approach is “medicinal cuisine,” that will heal Satoko in body and soul. And as Satoko finds herself learning to cook the healthy dishes, she manages to make friends at the apartment house, and bringing her body back into balance.Miyazawa Hio, Fukushi Seiji and Tabata Tomoko also star, and there are 9 episodes available for streaming now. And this series gets an impressive 7.1/10 on IMDb, so, though I can find no online reviews as yet, I’m watching.
